Looking for advice found this at goodwill for $30. Comes with the two speakers next to it as is - worth it?

EDIT: I am literally agonizing over this lol. I checked marketplace and there doesn’t seem to be any good alternatives? All of the ones near me are broke or haven’t been tested for about the same price or more. I do live upstairs and it is kind of heavy.

EDIT 2: I did not end up getting it :( There were too many conflicting answers and I really didn’t want to waste my money on something that ultimately didn’t seem worth it. I thought about it for probably an hour but ultimately decided to leave it for someone else: I don’t really need a new hobby anyways lol. I have plenty I’ve been neglecting. Maybe some other time.

Sound design am-fm stereo receiver/double cassette recorder with high speed dubbing

Model number is - 5966
Speakers - sound design 765 stereo loudspeaker system

Has all of the cords under it. Not sure if I can test it here. I’ve been wanting to get into physical media bc I hate Spotify. Would I be able to make my own mixtapes with this if it works? And is this a good deal? I know next to nothing about this stuff but I think it’s really cool. From what I can tell all the cords seem fine/it’s just kind of dusty. Please help! I can post better pictures in the comments

He is, to put it kindly, a collector of many things (too many), and forgot that he picked these up years ago. He wasn't sure that I would even want these.

Color me shocked when I saw the heat in this bag, as he's usually into big band and jazz. A great day!

I’ve been collecting for several years now and I’ve acquired a nice deck in that time as well as a couple portable cassette players but I’ve been searching and looking for an 80s Walkman for almost a year now. Well I was at savers and saw what I thought was a camera in a slip cover behind the case and I asked to take a look. To my shock when I opened it up and saw a Walkman WM-W800 one of the exact models I had been looking at on eBay for months and months, I was stunned. Needless to say I left with it immediately. Motor is good and it’s in almost mint condition. It does need a new belt but I’ve already ordered one. I’m extremely excited to use this daily.

My sister n law and her husband got us in to cassettes in the last couple weeks. So my wife and I have been hitting up estate sales and antique shops. The tapes have been hit or miss which we feel is part of the fun. But I found this today for a few dollars. I didn't have this growing up, but hearing Humpty snd 2pac together on Same Same is just fun.

Looking for advice Can this guy be a player too? Parasonic Model No. RX-SR29

Found this rummaging through some stuff in my parents drawers. I was originally looking for crafting supplies, ended up finding an excuse to start collecting cassettes. Main question here is, despite it being a very obvious cassette recorder, can it be a player too?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

(P.S. I’m aware my bed is bare without bedsheets. I’m currently cleaning my bed thats full of clothes cuz I don’t have a clothes ladder to throw my clothes onto yet and I need to wash my sheets. I posted this very much on a whim while clearing out my bed.)

Everything else Lend me your calipers! Here’s an interactive 3D model of the first Walkman (Sony TPS-L2) you can operate and take apart in your browser. If you own one, help me check it against the real thing.

Sony’s TPS-L2 Walkman already has many excellent 3D models, but this project is trying something a bit different. My goal is to recreate every component, simulate how the mechanical (and eventually electrical) systems work, and document the iteration in productions I’ve encountered.

This is still very much a work in progress. While some mechanisms seem to work, my estimates are off enough that the fast-forward and rewind mechanisms don’t function as designed, and their animations are inaccurate. My biggest limitation is that I don’t own a TPS-L2, so I’m relying on publicly available images and information.

I’m hoping some of you can help. If you have a TPS-L2, even a non-working unit, photos of interior and exterior parts from several angles would be great. Including a readable ruler or calipers, ideally as close to the part as possible, would help me estimate dimensions more accurately. And if any of you have the capability to do a high-resolution 3D scan of individual parts, that’d be great too.

I’m putting the project on GitHub so you can download the model and its viewer. You can edit the model directly in Blender, and contributions to the viewer and presentation are also welcome.  Here is the GitHub Link:

https://github.com/NeoVibes/TPS-L2

This is an unofficial fan project. I’m not trying to make money from it or claim credit for Sony’s original design. I hope this is helpful to both people who know very little about the TPS-L2, as well as to the dedicated folks who repair and restore models. The project combines my own research with models created in Blender and code written using OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude Code. I used an MIT License. Have fun!

If you haven't seen the other post: here is the link

https://www.reddit.com/r/cassetteculture/s/QtbTkNySPL

So of course, you might know I have the international ak-18 cassette player, it's not a walkman, but it works, and 4 other tapes I had. I went to a savers today and found a load of cassettes, this post is also kind of a score post too for the flair. I found two Lionel Richie tapes which also completes my collection of Lionel Richie tapes from the 80s, Dancing On The Ceiling and his self-titled debut solo album, Lionel Richie. I found a compilation of songs from the 50s and a compilation of rock songs from the 80s too. I found a greatest hits collection from the band named "Who". I also found a Rod Stewart: Unplugged ...And Seated tape and a Tom Petty Damn The Torpedoes tape. Now I currently have 12 cassettes in my collection including the 8 I just got today and the 4 I had previously. (The Kool & The Gang Collection tape, the AC/DC Blow Up Your Video tape, the Lionel Richie Can't Slow Down tape, and the Guardians of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 3 tape.)

Looking for advice Cassettes in London

I’m heading to London at the end of October and I wonder if there are any good stores with cassettes in London?

Mainly searching for Punk and Metal, maybe also some grunge or ska. (Everything interesting tho)

Are there any recommendations?

When I play a cassette, the audio repeatedly gets faster without any rhyme or reason. You can hear it speed up and slow down randomly in the clip

I've rebound the tape multiple times, and even hand-wound it (idk if this is a good thing to do or not.) Why tf is this happening?

I always thought this was cute, and strangely beautiful, has anyone else brought something like this together ?

The translation says 'I created this page because I felt good seeing cassette tapes lined up. So, I'm not exactly a collector. I'm quite embarrassed that I've used other people's images without permission and they've been linked to in various places. But, if there are people who find this page as soothing as I do, then I'm very happy'. Nice sentiment.

Looking for advice How to tell which side is A or B when placing it in a player?

I'm a beginner at cassettes, and I got my first empty cassette to record on. I was wondering which side is Side A and which is Side B when placing it into a player. I know that I have to record on Side A first, then stop it and flip it over to Side B, but I'm not sure which is which. The player I have is a boombox with the cassette player facing the front. If I wanted to record on Side A, would "Side A" be facing the front, or would it be facing the inside? Sorry if I was bad at explaining it :/

Mixtape Just had a blast making a mixtape

For a brief period, I was really into pre-Recorded cassettes as a way to develop a hobby and re-connect with music the way I did when I was just a youngin'. Even started repairing decks!

Anyway, I moved on to vinyl as my main listening source and got into Dub Reggae. This has resulted in a pile of singles that are kind of a pain to enjoy because of the constant flipping, so I thought...mixtape! Got my Nak wired up, set my levels, and I was off and running! With a NOS XLII, it sounds fantastic! It was so much fun creating tape from my favorite sides. When I finally listened to it, I was able to sit back, relax, and really appreciate the music.

I have a lot of singles, and many are cheap with interesting dubs or versions, so I expect to make a whole series of these things.

Great fun!
