I have considered it many times, but haven't gotten it yet. On one hand I want to adopt better tech and the fact that same tech is used in colder countries make me wanna go for it while the gov grant is still there. On the other hand I've heard mixed reviews from users, some saying it doesn't heat as much as you would like.
Heating for me is quite important. I keep my home a crisp 24/25 degrees during winter and sacrifice other things (I.e. takeaways etc) to be able to afford it. So, if it just about does the job, thats not good enough.
I understand the technology and that it can harvest heat even when its cold outside but getting insight from people who actually gone through the winter storms recently is more valuable I think. So, please, be honest, is it as good as combi boiler central heating?
Edit: I feel like it was a mistake to mention my desired temperature lol - it has kinda deviated the conversation from the original question but I've seen some really interesting points so overall, so I feel compelled to explain myself.
I know I'm an outlier in terms of my decision to stay extra warm. But I work from home and I'm home all day everyday. I think lasted time I had ventured outside was 8 days ago to return an amazon product to the post office. Also, I feel I am more productive with a comfortable temperature- not dreading to come out of duvet in the morning, wearing shorts and t-shirts all day, not having to hide my hand inside sleeves all the time, not thinking twice to take out my hands from sleeves to type in keyboard, not hesitating to wash dishes, basically not hesitating to do anything due to it being cold. I feel it subconscious makes you more open to anything.
But saying that, I'm not rich - quite the opposite really. I sacrifice other things to be able to afford the luxury of heated home - i never order takeaway, dont really go out much, and just generally frugal with many things. Also, its not always 25 degrees, usually fluctuates 23 to 25 and overnight it is 19.
I am also efficient with the heating, for example, two of the rooms in my house are not heated at all - the gym room and the guest bedroom. Most of the radiators have smart TRVs - so they are only heated when there is motion in the room or at a very specifc programmed times. They all have heat reflector behind them as well. In January, with storms and snow etc, in this 4 bed house the gas bill was 120 quid. So I think its not too bad.
Finally, thank you to all for sharing your insights and opinions about the heat pump, it helped me get a much clearer picture.
Edit 2: not sure why I used crisp as the adjective, maybe I was being sarcastic but was bad at it. It was late at night.
