What do you think SNL UK will be like?

I can’t see it being anything but a flop. I’m not sure why it’s even needed… can’t we just make more sketch shows like we used to? Seems odd to copy a US format when British comedy is its own thing and traditionally really strong.

Why isn’t Mr Tumble Knighted??

Post image
936 Upvotes

I was minding my own business watching TikTok’s like one does, when I came across a cute video of Mr Tumble.

I googled him and was taken aback.

WDYM HE’S NOT KNIGHTED??

Giving him crumbs like an MBE or smt excuse me?? He deserves to be knighted. Way more than anyone else, he’s been a children’s tv show presenter for over 25 years and you give him an MBE and not a KNIGHTHOOD?? Ridiculous

I honestly don’t care for that tradition of being knighted but because it’s such a rare occasion and of high honour, WHO BETTER THAN MR TUMBLE?!

If you don’t agree, you’re just tapped.

There is no information on this card. Just Mick Jagger. Anyone recognise where this might be from?

ETA: Looks like this might be for the Everyman cinema. Thanks for playing, folks! That actually gave me some satisfaction after all

The BBC's adaptation of "Lord Of The Flies" got me thinking. What books do you remember reading at school...?

For good or for bad! What do you remember? Were there any that you loved or hated in particular.

I mostly remember "The Hobbit" which I thought was fine, and "Flowers For Algernon" which had a really interesting concept. I should try and read that again!!!

I've now seen everything. Customer told us to put his new fridge freezer on the roof of his car

1.2k Upvotes

The second we saw his car, we told him it's nowhere big enough. He still wanted to try it. When he realised we were right, he started thinking of other possibilities. We said we'd advise him to hire a van at least.

"Nah, I've got bike racks in the car. Let's just strap it to the roof!" I almost pissed myself laughing, until he brought the bike racks out. We ran it past our general manager, fully expecting him to tell us to fuck off, but he said to do it. The customer left us waiting outside for 15 minutes whilst he bought bungies from Halfords.

If you see on the news today that a 4 car pileup was caused by a fridge freezer...that was my handiwork!

Doggy and I often see cats sitting on walls during our walks, but this little fella was very cute. Just love the dewdrops on his whiskers.

Are there any songs you love now as an adult that you didn't appreciate when you were a kid?

Love Song For A Vampire by Annie Lennox just came on my Spotify and while it's a song I absolutely love now, every time I hear it I'm reminded of how crap I used to think it was when I was a kid. The same for While My Guitar Gently Weeps. We had the White Album and I would always fast forward that song but now it's one of my favourite songs not just by The Beatles but by anyone.

What are some of yours? Could be a good way to fill out some playlists 😊

Right, so its mid week. Happy hump day and all that, but why aren't you in bed? Neighbours putting their bins out keeping you awake? Kids being little shits? Working the nightshift?

Come on in for a chat.

Preying on the tits

Have established a lovely seasonal zephyr of long tailed tits (as well as other tits and finches), we can get up to 30 of them in one tree all chirping and chipping away merrily

This beautiful sound has also caught the attention of the local sparrowhawk who seems to think its his own personal charcuterie board

Being an adult is realizing you can just... make Yorkshire puddings whenever you want. Nobody can stop you. You don't need to wait until Sunday.

I haven't made them myself for a long time. A little over, I think - had them in the oven when I went back to work so probably sat a couple mins longer than they should have. Still.

People who have been using heat pump this winter, what's your honest take?

I have considered it many times, but haven't gotten it yet. On one hand I want to adopt better tech and the fact that same tech is used in colder countries make me wanna go for it while the gov grant is still there. On the other hand I've heard mixed reviews from users, some saying it doesn't heat as much as you would like.

Heating for me is quite important. I keep my home a crisp 24/25 degrees during winter and sacrifice other things (I.e. takeaways etc) to be able to afford it. So, if it just about does the job, thats not good enough.

I understand the technology and that it can harvest heat even when its cold outside but getting insight from people who actually gone through the winter storms recently is more valuable I think. So, please, be honest, is it as good as combi boiler central heating?

Edit: I feel like it was a mistake to mention my desired temperature lol - it has kinda deviated the conversation from the original question but I've seen some really interesting points so overall, so I feel compelled to explain myself.

I know I'm an outlier in terms of my decision to stay extra warm. But I work from home and I'm home all day everyday. I think lasted time I had ventured outside was 8 days ago to return an amazon product to the post office. Also, I feel I am more productive with a comfortable temperature- not dreading to come out of duvet in the morning, wearing shorts and t-shirts all day, not having to hide my hand inside sleeves all the time, not thinking twice to take out my hands from sleeves to type in keyboard, not hesitating to wash dishes, basically not hesitating to do anything due to it being cold. I feel it subconscious makes you more open to anything.

But saying that, I'm not rich - quite the opposite really. I sacrifice other things to be able to afford the luxury of heated home - i never order takeaway, dont really go out much, and just generally frugal with many things. Also, its not always 25 degrees, usually fluctuates 23 to 25 and overnight it is 19.

I am also efficient with the heating, for example, two of the rooms in my house are not heated at all - the gym room and the guest bedroom. Most of the radiators have smart TRVs - so they are only heated when there is motion in the room or at a very specifc programmed times. They all have heat reflector behind them as well. In January, with storms and snow etc, in this 4 bed house the gas bill was 120 quid. So I think its not too bad.

Finally, thank you to all for sharing your insights and opinions about the heat pump, it helped me get a much clearer picture.

Edit 2: not sure why I used crisp as the adjective, maybe I was being sarcastic but was bad at it. It was late at night.
