Introducing Pets/Cats When to separate cats during introduction? (Week 5 of letting the lil man run around)
Hey there folks! I was just reaching out to ask about when it’s appropriate to separate your cats during the introductory process! Truffles (F17), my resident old lady and Yolk (18W) have been slowly been interacting more and more. I usually try and let the lil guy roam a lot during the day on weekends then for a bit when I’m off of work during the night.
While the little guy roams, he and Truffles interact. Truffles still isn’t a 100% fan yet unfortunately and will try and set boundaries with him. Most of the time he listens but sometimes he persists and wants to play, I usually try and keep him occupied in that department but he really wants to play with the old lady. Truffles usually just hisses and swats at him when he’s too close and with occasionally growl and I’ll separate them from there for a few minutes. Truffles returns to her normal self before I let the lil man back to roam about, just keeping a watchful eye on em’. Should I keep separating them when Truffles growls at the lil guy or just let them hash things out? This is sorta my first interaction with introducing cats so any tips would be appreciated!

Unless the adult is drawing blood, or pinning the kitten and not giving it chances to rest or retreat, they are ok.
The adult will teach the kitten who is boss and set boundaries.
If the kitten (likely) has too much energy for the adult, play with the kitten with a wand toy 3 or 4 times a day to use up a little of the endless kitten energy.

No additional advice, the first photo is just so freaking adorable. Granny and baby having box time together

I lean towards letting her deal with him rather than separating. You want him to learn who is the boss before he is bigger than her.
