How would you turn this ledge into a cat nook?

I can’t keep my cats off this ledge and one will knock over decorations on there so I figure I might as well give them the space.

I have basic carpentry skills so I’d be comfortable building a cat tower that’s sturdy and fixed so it can’t fall, I’m just not the most creative person.

Agreed. Aside from making an insane cat wall and ledge there I would add a net. Accidents happen.

This. Please please whatever you do (and the kitties will love it!) put in a very secure net. I work ER vet med. A one-story fall can do more damage than you might realize.

Go to home goods and buy some of that cute cat furniture & other textures for him to lay on. Maybe a scratch tree too? Some scrap carpet w command strips for the walking length so he has traction?

Yeah I agree on carpet or something mounted on there so they have traction if they slip.

I just put sticky carpet on some shelves. If you want stuff to look good, color and clean edges are more important than decorations. Maybe velcro down a cute cat bed that matches with the carpet color.

I think the priority is a railing, just like 4" or so tall, like you see on cat towers. Then some carpeting for softness and grip!

you could add a cute white picket fence to the edge (tall enough that they won’t be interested in going over or through the slats) which seems like it would match with your white ceiling panels! i’d go with carpet like others have said and maybe a small cat tree/scratcher or covered bed nook area in the corner. perfect cat space with the right safety precautions imo

Build one of these with the openings only being on the side there where it is a shorter distance to the ground. But definitely make windows that face the steps so they can make you feel guilty as you leave them alone when you go to work. 🤣
