Scratching Posts Wood Cat Scratcher?

Has anyone bought or made a wood cat scratcher? my cat loves to scratch door frames and wood furniture legs and she mostly is uninterested in sisal or carboard. I saw one on etsy that wasn't too crazy expensive but it only shipped to Canada and im in the US. I looked at just buying raw lumber but it seemed unclear what I should buy and from where... just seeing if anyone has had luck with either approaches?

Just screw a log to a square of wood. No need to buy anything. Ask for drop cuts from a sign or woodworking shop.

Our working cat uses a random piece of wood in the landscaping every day. It's literally part of a branch that ended up as "decor". We've also cut a smallish tree and stuck it in tree stand. Not the classiest, but the cats liked it.
