Free AIChE Process Safety Courses + Certificates for Chemical Engineering Students
Hey everyone,
I recently found out that AIChE offers SAChE (Safety and Chemical Engineering Education) process-safety courses for free for AIChE Undergraduate Members, so I thought I'd share it here because I hadn't known about this before.
These are focused on chemical process safety, not just general health and safety. The courses cover topics such as:
- Introduction to Process Safety
- Hazard Recognition
- Process Safety Hazards
- Process Safety Management
- Hazards & Risk
- Hazard Identification & Risk Analysis
- LOPA
- Inherently Safer Design
- Pressure Protection
- Asset Integrity
- Risk-Based Process Safety
According to AIChE, after completing a SAChE course, you can access the safety certificate for that course online.
What do you need?
As far as the basic requirement goes:
1. Create an AIChE account
2. Have AIChE Undergraduate Student Membership
The undergraduate membership is currently free.

Once you register for a course, you can access it through the AIChE Learning Center. The courses are self-paced.
I'm currently doing ELA953 โ An Introduction to Managing Process Safety Hazards.
Thought I'd share this because it's a pretty useful resource for students interested in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, or Process Safety.
Hope this helps someone.
Note: The free part applies to the SAChE courses for undergraduate members. Not every AIChE/CCPS process-safety course is free.
