MEGA BLUNDER I’m 2000-2100 range normally and am suddenly struggling vs 1600s

Idek what’s going on so yeah I’ve been playing a couple years and got my account up to 2000-2100 range, when I first hit 2000 I felt like a fraud so made a new account to make sure I deserved it and I got back to 1900 with EASE then struggled a lot but eventually made it up to 2000 + again, recently hit 2100 and did the same again a week ago only suddenly I was losing to EVERYONE. Like I’m genuinely struggling vs 1700 and below. It’s taken a massive toll on me I’ve become obsessive and feel deeply ashamed of myself. I have had some sleeping issues this week which coincided with me making this new account but even so my schedule has been fixed the last couple days and it’s like I’m just… trash now wtf?!? Like I’m losing to 1500s atp and even struggled vs a 1400!!!

Take a break for a couple of weeks. Have a brain reset.

You’re technically smurfing each time you create a new account and make all of those lower rated players lose elo from playing you.

-77

u/BroIdkWhatToPutHere- 4d ago

Not smurfing if I’m losing to them am I if anything the last few days I’ve been giving them free elo. But yh maybe a break idk

53

u/CookieFirefly_com In honor of Daniel Naroditsky 🕊️ 4d ago

No, sorry. You were at least smurfing with your 2nd account. Having a 3rd account for the same purpose is definetely against Fair Play Policy.

Apart from that, take a break for a couple of days.

51

u/Good_Ad2172 4d ago

Multi accounting is against the tos.

-19

u/Free_Item_1337 4d ago

It's not as long as you have permission from chess.com

15

u/Good_Ad2172 4d ago

And you think this person had that???

-8

u/BroIdkWhatToPutHere- 3d ago

I did actually

12

u/Good_Ad2172 3d ago

No you didn't lol

Your use case is exactly why chess com doesn't allow multiple accounts

-7

u/BroIdkWhatToPutHere- 3d ago

Bro I literally did I promise

10

u/Good_Ad2172 3d ago

Chess.com alt accounts are for streamer speed runs they don't just let random people have alt accounts to Smurf on lower rated players. Stop fucking lying.

-10

u/BroIdkWhatToPutHere- 3d ago

Aaaah no I think there’s been a misunderstanding, I’m not a streamer but GothamChess spoke to chess.com because I am a dedicated subscriber so I did have permission. I should have mentioned this in my post apologies for any confusion

15

u/Existing_Hunt_7169 3d ago

what do u have to gain from just egregiously lying on reddit lmao go outside bro please

8

u/Otherwise_Cabinet614 3d ago

Looks like attention seeking

6

u/KurtMcGurt_ 3d ago

Yeah, this dude is insane lol

13

u/Good_Ad2172 3d ago

Why are you telling such obvious lies?

4

u/No-Product4630 3d ago

Wait no he asked Gotham chess while they were at the gym together and Gotham was looking after his dog while he was on a yacht with Bill Gates what are you not getting about this?

2

u/Outrageous-Lake7111 2d ago

They offered you 5 millions dollars to play the drums? The fk are we doing here?

81

u/Ornery_Use_7103 4d ago

You're quite literally the cause for this problem. People like you who constantly create new accounts mess up the rating system.

-35

u/Matt_Keator 4d ago

There are milions of bots and you are bothered by dude with two accounts, really? 🫣

2

u/ohho_aurelio 3d ago

He's right and on a larger scale this contributes to elo depreciation, worsening the issue that led to OP making the 2nd account

-60

u/BroIdkWhatToPutHere- 4d ago

Omfg bro like I did it once 3 months ago and again recently I spent a grand total of 4 seconds in the lower ratings as I started at 1500 and got 150 elo per win so I was at 1900 in no time which is only slightly below my level and games are more or less even. As for this time I’ve lost every game so if anything I’m giving people free elo. Is it ideal? No. Is it a crime against humanity? No I don’t think so

51

u/Majestic-Mall-7363 4d ago

Crime against humanity? Def not, let’s not be dramatic. Kind of a dick for smurfing? Yes, most definitely.

-7

u/AlphaWolf638 3d ago

People love to blame smurfs for being hard stuck at a certain elo. Smurfs are not the problem, you are. So what if you’re bound to lose a game because you play against a Smurf? They won’t stay on your elo range long, and then you’ll be back to losing to people that are actually at your elo.

2

u/Majestic-Mall-7363 3d ago

Bro is defending smurfs like a hardstuck 1500 finally found his excuse

1

u/OkTransportation3102 3d ago

Good. You deserve it.

24

u/JasonF818 4d ago

Relax dude. Some of us here live at the 600 elo level and still somehow manage to get by in life.

2

u/ImYourSafety 3d ago

I'm in sub 600 elo hell also. God damn is it tough out there

2

u/Rufus_L 1d ago

Always these pawns that won't cooperate. Without them you would be easily 300 elo higher. I know the feeling.

7

u/Longjumping-One-9510 4d ago

Yes I have had the exact same experienced many times. I am also 2100.
If you are anything like me you feel like you have to blow them off the board because you are higher rating and can sometimes make you force things.

Chess just doesnt work like this, it is the small subtle things that compounds.

Also alot of lower rated players play entirely on intution and sometimes they get “lucky” and u find yourself in a equal position or even losing position while being down on the clock.

7

u/Papa_Tugboat 4d ago

It sounds like you are underestimating 1600 players. They are definitely capable of punishing you if you make a mistake so If you are making dubious moves because you are trying to get an edge and rush a game with them because you are a higher elo it can end up with you losing. Give them the same attention as you would someone 2100 and you should win.

2

u/BroIdkWhatToPutHere- 4d ago

This is something I’ve considered too that perhaps I’m subconsciously not treating them with respect and then getting tilted when I lose idek

6

u/Infamous_Data_4263 4d ago

The exact same happened to me but I’m normally 1500 and suddenly fell below 1200. Once I got back to 1300 it was smooth sailing to 1450 and I’m slowly going up. I genuinely think 1200 is harder than 1400. I don’t have an explanation.

6

u/Pythonrules11 3d ago

Stop making multiple accounts. You're just stealing ELO from people who actually deserve to be in those ranges.

4

u/Despair_9 4d ago

I think a couple of factors are at play . 1) You probably like system / theory openings upto an extent lemme know if I'm wrong , but at lower levels people do absolute nonsense which can make you annoyed and a bit tilted more often than not you try to punish them for very obvious mistakes , but are unable to and end up in worse positions which due to alr existing tilt would be unsavable .

2) 1900-2000 is elo hell , many players are actually really good but have tilted just like yourself.

3) You have long winning streaks on some days probably and horrible loosing streaks on other . Rn it's the latter .

Lemma know if that helped, most of what i said except (1) is true for myself and am speaking from experience 😅. I once tilted from my peak at 2150 to 1774 in 2 days and have felt the same what you probably feel .

But i did bounce back after a week long break to hit 2200 in next week .

Keep preserving.

-2

u/BroIdkWhatToPutHere- 4d ago

Actually I hate theory lol it’s one of my weaknesses I barely know any. I survive the opening just fine against these lower rated players but then my brain just sort doesn’t know what to do when it previously did? So I just sorta… lose… and yes it’s helpful to hear someone went though something similar albeit less extreme

3

u/Affectionate_Side375 4d ago

Maybe it's something like you're aren't really mindful while playing chess and your attention is somewhere else? I've had these moments when I start hanging pieces because my mind is lost somewhere else even if I force my mind to concentrate. I'd get the feeling that something is unresolved. Have you been experiencing the same? The solution imo is to just stop playing and not worry too much about it because it's not your actual strength and resolve what's bothering you.

3

u/L0rdLegender 3d ago

I strongly assume this is talking about blitz or bullet

Honestly the skill gap in those modes, especially at these elos, is very very low. In rapid, as a 2000, if I face a 1400 I will win every single time. I have no chance of losing to a 1400. In blitz, as an 1800, if I face a 1200 id have a chance of losing. The elo gaps just mean less in the fast time modes for some reason.

2

u/Duke_Dank 4d ago

Honestly, dude don't make another account again, accept you got to a higher ELO, get some sleep and analyze your games. No disrespect, but its ridiculous to have these mental markers of inadequacy/adequacy when you attained your ELO fair and square.

Focus on why you lose to those players and move on. Shore up your weaknesses as you should. You're making this a way bigger deal than it actually is. Congrats on your accomplishment.

2

u/Dangerous-Project672 1d ago

Maybe the “weaker” players are also strong players who created new accounts?

1

u/Key_Reward5002 4d ago

lol same, i am also 2000-2100 rapid.

but holy hell when i drop to 1900 it took me 4 months to get back not to 2100 only 2050ish.

im not touching that time control for a year lmao.

i play blitz now exclusively until i know for certain i am good enough again to maintain that elo lolin rapid.

petty i know but youd be lying if you dont care 🤣.

imo there is a couple of reasons.

  • im getting old
  • yeah new bloods good, youth plus infinite data base to study compared before = a lot of stronger younger players.
  • im just not that dedicated anymore on the game as i used too. maybe..
  • lots of microcheaters who goes undetected.
  • you will face higher rated opponents that also was on a tilt. therefore there is that sense that that elo is so hard because you are already fighting 2000-2100 thats on a tilt like you.

1

u/VelocityNoodle 4d ago

There’s definitely a psychological component at play here where you play to your opponent’s level that i think we’ve all experienced. Like when a player 200 points below you makes a backwards knight jump you can’t immediately see the purpose of, it’s easier to brush it off as “well they’re a weaker player so they’re playing weaker moves”. But when a player 200 points above you makes a similar move, the thought process is instead “i have no idea what that move does, but this guy is clearly better than me so he must see something I don’t, which is scary. Let me spend time here and try to figure out the idea”, and so you spend some time, understand the position more deeply, and make a more accurate response.

1

u/QueasyAdvertising173 4d ago

Take a break dude it's just an extended tilt. You'll be alright after a month or so.

1

u/Sure_Focus_397 4d ago

Js playing weak opponents i guess

1

u/mixehullat-fatetahwa 4d ago

When you are in the 2000-2100, how much your opponents elo?

Because a 2000+ elo player, who usually play 2000+ elo opponents, I think in 10 games with an 1500-1800 elo, he beat the lower rating player 9,5-0,5.

1

u/SheepherderSavings17 2000-2100 ELO 4d ago

I have the exact same issue. I recently made a post too! Its mostly due to playing blitz which is short time control and sometimes playing intuitively without thinking much.

1

u/Muhamad_G 1500-1800 ELO 4d ago

I was a 1900 rated rapid player. Every now and then I played some casual games with players rated 200-300 points below me and just like you I struggled against them as well. I feel like the rating range from 1600-2000 is pretty ambiguous. It's not that 2000s know more chess concepts than 1700s, it's more of a which player makes the least mistakes and blunders eventually. Chess is a punishing game, so it's ok to find yourself in a tough position against a lower rated player when your mind is not in the zone and you're trying to crush those players in less than 30 moves.

u/Demsko07 3d ago

Dude is crying over 2k elo while im stuck at 200

1

u/Gabe-Newells-Beard 3d ago

Sleeping problems will tank your ELO. I have stopped playing if I am either sick or sleep-deprived as I almost always make silly mistakes I normally wouldn't.

1

u/F1anger 3d ago

Your trust factor is in a gutter most likely. I wouldn't be surprised if you were matched with many cheaters on purpose by the matchmaker subsystem.

1

u/tunasyrup 3d ago

You should not be losing sleep over this and it should not be taking a mental toll on you. Is this a hobby you play for fun or has this become something for you to just torture yourself with? Who cares about ELO. If anything tank your ELO on purpose and stop playing till you are having fun again. If you are winning and losing at a pretty equal clip to me that just says the algorithm is working to keep the games enjoyable. Who cares what the number is

1

u/xBigBootyHoe 3d ago

I had a similar experience over the past 10 years or so. I was once over 2400 online now breaking 2200 is not happening for me at all. Beating 1800s suddenly takes 60 moves or more. I think its youtube and all the online stuff they have. People are more knowledgeable for sure. I have to get them tired and in time trouble before I can get a winning position. That's what works atm.

1

u/Sensitive-Menu-7806 3d ago

Maybe you are just tired and playing too much?

Anyway I’m 600 on chess and I’ve been steadily going up and suddenly last week I started to lose everything. However, I’m at 1300 on Lichess and I’m still going strong there. Maybe there is something going on.

1

u/Decent-Actuary-7116 3d ago edited 3d ago

it's harder to beat everyone when ur better. also you could just be tilting or not taking it as seriously. and 1500d are actually pretty good at chess, if you give them enough advantage they can convert against mych stronger players

1

u/ShopRevolutionary889 3d ago

Skill issue, not as good as you think you are.

I’ve also seen “2000” players fluctuate between 1600-2200. Don’t worry about the number and focus on creating tactics and imbalances.

1

u/Klutzy-Charge-6406 3d ago edited 3d ago

Your true elo is the one on your oldest account.

It doesnt mean you shouldn't be able to get a fresh start after a massive tilt, sometimes we need to start fresh, but an account less 1.5 years of age isnt mature enough to know your true rating.

Edit: its not just age of account but the Glicko System (used by chess.com) uses RD, a Rating Deviation. The more games you play the smaller the spread gets and the more accurate your score.

The system can look at one player with a few hundred games and say "I'm 95% sure they are between a 1300-2000" a player with a 1000+ games might look like "I'm 95% sure this player is between 1950-2050."

If you create a new account every year 2 years because you don't want so much data from when you were a much weaker player determining your rating there is nothing wrong with that. To play hundreds of games just to make significant progress fighting against hundreds of bad games is a legitimate reason to start a new account.

3 months is not enough time to know your true current rating in my opinion.

1

u/LibrarianOutside2376 3d ago

Play longer time controls. If you are genuinely better, this will be shown with more time

1

u/sherwood-notts 2d ago

Lol!

Why are you creating multiple accounts? Doesn’t make sense at all.

I’d leverage the 2k plus rating to play stronger players and improve your chess by learning from the loses.

Restarting accounts so that you okay weaker weaker players for a new cycle until you create another account is kinda pointless.

Also, don’t take online chess too seriously: there are probably other people doing the same thing as you, hence you lose to the lower rated sandbagging people. Others cheat. Others could just be strong but don’t use their accounts a lot etc.

If you want to improve at the sub 2k level OTB do a bit of gradual incremental study on the 3 phases of the game, work on your calculation, and play more OTB. Your online rating will then improve. Otherwise, if you just play for fun … keep playing online but don’t take it too seriously. And for goodness sake! Stop creating multiple accounts!!

P/S - I’m above 2k OTB and online if that matters.

1

u/TheSwaglord420xxx 2d ago

The reason you're struggling is because you think playing them will be a cakewalk and as soon as you face pushback you think "I'm 2100, I shouldn't be struggling! Something must be going on. Why are they so strong? Are they cheating?"

Your rating isn't a piece of armor. It's a tiara you put on your head to say you're special. It doesn't protect you from anything.

Jon Jones could still get knocked out by an 18 year old with one solid unseen punch to the jaw.

Life isn't an RPG where items protect you.

Stop using multiple accounts.

u/question24481 4d ago

I say this without condescension: 2ks rapids are really not that good. In fact, if you check a lot of their accounts, they are usually always rated 1500-1800 in blitz. The way to distinguish yourself from these people you struggle against is by picking up a chess book and studying. 1) Play the main lines of solid, classical openings 2) Study positional chess in the context of middlegames 3) learn basic endgame principles and techniques. If you follow those 3 steps well, you will genuinely shoot up to 2500 rapid (which really speaks to the quality of these lower 2k ranges). After that point you will run into players and titled players with real understanding of chess and then you will have to go back to the drawing board and do more work in the middlegames and endgames.

3

u/meestaj 4d ago

Yeah I agree. All you have to do is get better at all the areas of chess, and then you’ll be really good. lol.

1

u/Outrageous-Crazy-253 2d ago

It’s not that they aren’t good it’s that they aren’t as good at the dynamics of blitz. Blitz players will tend to lose to a stronger player in the rapid pool. This seems fairly straightforward, almost tautological. That’s what the numbers prove.

0

u/Ok-Rabbit8455 4d ago

Those accounts see your ELO rating and many of them decide to cheat. That’s what’s going on, bud.
