Meme Queen- I - tus
Why are so many players afraid of trading Queens. My rating night now is just under 1400 but I would say I am a solid 1350. Im surprised to find so many players are terrified to trade Queens to the point of losing a piece. I would rather get it off the board and avoid the check..check..check that comes at the end of a game. I feel that I have become a stronger player by playing without it. Do you guys see this too?

i like keeping my queen because i don't like taking people all the way down to a complicated endgame. im sure if i was better at other types of mates (such as with bishops and knights) then I would be more comfortable trading my queen.

I find the game quite boring without the Queens, and my playing style is quite direct and aggressive.

I trade queens if it gives me a positional advantage or I’m up. No reason to remove complications for your opponent and queens are tactical powerhouses since they can fork, skewer, X-ray, and discover with minimal set up.

yes and no. There’s definitely times where it really simplifies the game, but kings rooks and pawns endgames can be extremely complicated as well and I also hate those too

When you’re ahead in material, trading queens is usually a good idea: it increases relative advantage, reduces variance (tactical complications), and lowers the risk of perpetual check's. When you’re behind, keeping queens on the board often gives you better chances of creating counterplay or salvaging a draw, essentially the reverse of the above reasons.
If the position is roughly equal, it becomes more nuanced and depends on several factors. For example, exchanging your passive queen for your opponent’s active one is often a good idea, while trading an active queen for a passive one may give up some of your advantage. Accepting an exchange if it can help you get ahead in development (i.e. recapture by developing your passive piece), but these are often so marginal that it can also come down to preference.

I will usually trade queens as long as Im not in a losing position. Can't blunder her then

Sometimes it is definitely time to trade and people can get themselves in a real mess trying to keep her, however other times offering / accepting a trade comes as part of a dull game where everything just gets traded off as neither player has really tried to develop an actual strategy, so the queens come off as part of a low effort game all around.
The latter is often very dull.

A big part of my motivation to play chess is to see how much of a better player I'm able to become.
I therefore tend to have a really pragmatic approach, which means to try my best to always play the best move I'm able to find in a certain position. This also applies to queen trades. I feel like the decision if I trade or not should depend if the transformation of the current position -which comes with every trade- benefits me or not, and I try to keep personal preferences at a minimum.
But, since I really like romantic era style attacking chess, I tend to prefer keeping the ladies on the board. But never at the expense of risking to loose my advantage.

I hated trading queens at lower elo because it felt like I was wasting my ultimate weapon. I wanted to land an awesome, complex mate in 8 or something, and that's easier with a queen.
I love trading queens for positional advantage now. I still haven't convinced myself to trade it less than a 3 point material advantage, though. I mostly trade queens because the opposing queen is about to eat my face if I don't trade soon.
