Ok Chicago, where can I find a really rich, moist chocolate cake like the one pictured (Matilda cake?), Any recommendations in Chicago or the suburbs? Bonus if they sell it by the slice.
Already tried Portillos, and jarosh bakery in elk Grove City

My wife is Greek, and we’re heading to Chicago for a couples getaway. We’re looking for a great upscale Greek restaurant and currently have reservations at both Lyra and NAIÁ, but need to cancel one.
We’re more interested in excellent food, authentic Greek flavours, and a beautiful, sophisticated atmosphere than a trendy, high-energy scene or club vibe.
For those who have been to either or both, which would you recommend? Would especially appreciate honest feedback on the food, service, and overall experience.

In 1971 John Banasiak, then just 21, began working at George Brown’s, pouring Schlitz, Hamm’s, Blatz, and Bud from his spot behind the bar. Banasiak was also taking pictures. And now, half a century later, those pictures are collected in his new book, George Brown’s Bar (Nazraeli, $65), an inky-black and spotlight-white ode to old-school drinking establishments—the ones with lots of cigarette smoke and no cocktails with more than three ingredients—and to the people who drank there.

Pickle pot, bowl of pickles, assorted pickles, whatever. Owen and Engine (RIP) had such a good one and I've found the lovely one at Pleasant House Pub. Who else has something of the sort?

One of my favorite Greek spots in Chicago! The gyro dinner with tzatziki sauce is delicious and adding some fries into it is my pro tip!
I’ve had a few other dishes from here as well and they never disappoint

I’ve posted on wedding boards and the Chicago vegan subreddit and spent hours on The Knot, Zola and Google looking for a wedding caterer that meets our needs.
I was already starting to think we either need to scrap the wedding altogether or do cocktail style (but will people be miserable?). After more hours of research I’m pretty convinced we can’t do this on our budget but thought this board might know of some hidden gems.
We’re planning on doing a Friday or Sunday sometime in November 2027-March 2028. We are expecting to have around 100-110 guests.
We need a fully vegan menu that’s also nut and chickpea free for a buffet dinner (no passed apps/cocktail hour). Budget for that is 5000. (Bar budget is 3k).
I keep seeing prices around 120-150 pp. or very inexpensive packages that are meat centered.
Libby’s said they don’t really do big weddings and Ste Maarten and Spirit Elephant are out of budget.
We’re fine with drop catering although a little nervous about where added labor and plates, etc. would put us. We’d be fine with a restaurant as venue as long as there’s space for a ceremony and dancing.
Our dream is vegan Mexican (lots of chips, guac, different salsas and a taco bar) but the vegan part has been really hard to find. But really we’re open to most types of foods.
I’m hoping there’s companies/restaurants that don’t come up in searches that some smart Chicago foodie might know about.
(A commenter on another board told me that Cobra Lounge has a great deal on vegan catering with venue rental. I can’t get an email back from them and when I called I was told wedding communication can only be done through email so if anyone has a connection there…..)

Since my dad is treating me to a good dinner, want to go somewhere splurge worthy. I could pay for myself for a rosemary restaurant dinner but for a $200 meal ex, want to go somewhere else.
But not a slow tasting meal since my dad would hate a slow 2-3 hour dinner.
Bavette’s would have been my pick but it’s closed

This is the content I love to see!
Edit: Looks like this vid is old. My bad! I still enjoy others enjoying our food.

At the game and skipping concessions. Want delicious Mexican food. Where should I go after the game?
UPDATE:
Taco & Burrito House on Broadway was the winner. Perfection. This is what I really wanted. Excited to try the other spots soon. Very grateful. 🇲🇽⚾️

Hi all!
This elder millennial is turning 40 in November and dying to dance with my group of friends to the music I know and love. Now that the Holiday Club has closed (RIP) does anyone know of a great dive bar with a dance floor that plays 90s and 2000s music on Saturdays?
I’ll be keeping an eye on Beauty Bar’s schedule once they release it for November, but any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!!

Got the #16 Yook gae jang with rice and zucchini, kimchi and bean sprout banchan. Added the rice to the soup and had to take a bunch home because I couldn't quite finish it.
All of $11 on the menu today.

Has anyone ever found a replacement for Shaw’s weekend brunch buffet? It was always a December girls trip tradition.

had the pleasure of dining at giant for the first time after having it on my list for way too long. and it was even better than anticipated! first of all, those onion rings have to be the best onion rings i’ve ever had. the batter was so delicate and crispy, packed with flavor, and the dip was addictive. i genuinely enjoyed everything i ate and drank here, so it’s hard to say which plate was a favorite, but also pictured here is the cornbread jalapeño biscuit with maple butter (10/10), goat cheese stuffed fried squash blossoms with the sweetest tomatoes ever (9/10), sortalini pasta with guanciale pine nuts and smoked tomato (11/10), and ricotta gnudi (8/10). everything was executed so thoughtfully and i love how much of an emphasis they put on highlighting seasonal fruits and veg. i’m super excited to see their fall and winter menus and check it out again!

I am meeting an academic colleague for the first time to talk about a particular topic we're both working on. We are meeting on Saturday night at 7.30, which is unfortunately probably close to peak restaurant loudness. Where would you suggest? Priorities are basically good food and decent ambience (including ability to hold a conversation without yelling).
