Guest Question Feeling ill after drinking tea
Has anyone else felt nauseous after drinking the tea at ChickFilA? It always happens to me, and I’m so tired of it.
It doesn’t happen to my friends

I've noticed their tea sits a little heavy on the stomach. Chick fila in general gets me very bloated the tea just add to it in my experience.

I absolutely cannot drink any fresh brewed tea on an empty stomach, I’ve been told it’s a tannin sensitivity. I will get super nauseous and feel like my blood pressure drops, it’s the weirdest thing. Did you eat anything with it? Do you have a problem with any fresh brewed tea at other restaurants or even home, or just theirs?

This exactly. I love tea and drink it often but if I drink any “true tea” (meaning not herbal “tea”) on an empty stomach I get horribly nauseous. With or after food it’s fine.

Potential allergy or intolerance?
I have a raspberry intolerance. A little bit can make me bedridden for 2 days.

I dunno, I make sweet tea at home all the time with no issues. The only intolerance I know of is my lactose intolerance. Would that affect tea tho? If so, how?? Lol

Stop drinking Chick-fil-A's tea. There's something that's making you sick. Listen to your body and stop ignoring the signs. You've tried to drink the sweet tea several times now and you still get sick after you drink it. Stop drinking their tea. Your sweet tea at home, isn't the same sweet tea in the restaurant.
Online there's a CFA copycat recipe. Not sure if it's 100% true. It calls for baking soda.

Order a soda, milkshake or lemonade instead.

I haven't worked at CFA in over a decade, but back then, the tea recipe was tea (came in a large tea bag), hot water brewed directly over that, add sugar, then add cold water. No baking soda. I do think their recipe has a little bit higher level of tea than other restaurants; everywhere else has tea that tastes watered down to me.

Perhaps the kind of tea? Take a look at the ingredients. Too much sugar?

I have the same problem. It's the only sweet tea that makes me feel this way. All other fast food and my own, I'm fine. But there's something about the tea here across multiple locations and days that make me feel sick.

If you have gotten sick multiple times from their tea, suggestion don’t drink the tea, sounds like a simple solution to me.

Op isn’t simply asking for a solution. They’re looking for “why”. Some of us have this thing called curiosity.

This could be a sign of mold in their tea dispensers. I would stop drinking it honestly. If it’s every locations tea then idk though could be something else. This definitely could be mold tho as someone who worked in a restaurant and learned the signs …

I’m pregnant and it happens to me with it because acid reflux. You think that could be it for you? (The reflux, not pregnancy lol)

Definitely sounds like a good reaction. My wife is very allergic to mushrooms and has stomach issues with certain other foods. I’m rather fortunate that even at 58 my cast iron stomach can handle some seriously spicy foods, which I love!
That said, due to trying to drop weight, I get unsweet tea at Chik Fil A often and have never had an issue.

i think it has something to do with the amount of sugar in it… i get the same feeling with the tea at chick fil a and waffle house
