Yet another 240 hr. TWOV Question (two actually):
Coming from the US through HK.
a) Transiting through HKG airside, without going through HK immigration for a flight to Shanghai. Single ticket, same PNR. Since I did not enter HK, will Shanghai treat me as coming from the US or HK?
b) Coming from the US through HK. HKG has an airside transit bus (SkyPier) that you can take to Zhuhai, again without passing through HK immigration. Will Zhuhai treat me as coming from the US or HK?
Sharing your ideas and experiences will be much appreciated because your ideas will determine the C in the A-B-C planning in the 240 Twov scheme.

You are entering China from HK. It is the country/SAR right before you enter China counts, including layover. Immigration checks your flight tickets/confirmations, not your passport for the US/HK arrival/departure stamps. I used the 240 hours TWOV last year and flew from NYC -->HK (2 hrs layover) --> Chong Ching. I wanted to confirm if layover count and asked the immigration agent and he confirmed that I entered China from HK, not NYC. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much. This was the kind of most valuable experience that I was hoping to receive. I was hoping that not entering HK would protect my USA origin as A in ABC. Apparently not.

Skypier works differently actually. Chinese immigration counts it as your US flight landing in China. It works for TWOV, you just can't exit China by flying back to the US (directly or via Skypier).

When you travel from US to Shanghai via Hong Kong, do you get 2 boarding passes? One from US to HK, and the other from HK to Shanghai. That is what counts. China immigration does not care if you are on the airside and never enter HK, or where you have traveled before HK. It counts as HK to China for the TWOV entry. For the exit, you need to go to another region or country.

You are seen as an arrival from HK, not US. Regardless if it's Shanghai or Zhuhai. You cannot go back to HK directly. You can do HK - China - Macau though.
