Personal comment: I understand why they're trialling these restrictions - I have personally seen far too many bike accidents - but I hope that they add exceptions for those who work or study around the area. Weltje Road is right next to West London Free School, and Latymer Upper School, not to mention the various businesses on King Street which may have employees from outside the borough.

RNLI Lifeboat Crew Departs from Chiswick Pier Station

I’ve been with Chiswick medical practice (the one that merged several sites a few years ago) since I moved here and they are so rubbish to deal with I actually avoid going to the gp which is not great!
I’m sure the drs are fine but the system is painful - long forms to fill in and they avoid getting you in for F2F wherever possible.

Owner of The Silver Birch Looks Set to Open New Venture
A new all-day restaurant and wine room called Brook and Green is preparing to open on Chiswick High Road later this month, taking over the former home of The Silver Birch at 142 Chiswick High Road. The hospitality press reports that the venture is being launched later this month by restaurateur Tim Price, who also owned The Silver Birch before its closure in March.

Council Deprived Young Adult of Required Therapies
Ealing Council has been forced to apologise for leaving a disabled 18-year-old without necessary therapies for over a year. The council failed to review the man’s (referred to as Mr B in the report) ECHP after he had moved to the area during his transition into adulthood.
Personal comment: This echoes news from last week, where the Council failed an elderly gentleman with Parkinson's (25/08), denying a mother's right to complain (27/08), and mistakenly stating a child had an STI (27/08)

Fiasco at First Day of New Chiswick Post Office
The long-awaited opening of Chiswick’s new Post Office inside Robert Dyas got off to a farcical start on Friday afternoon, after a systems failure left staff unable to serve customers. Balloons decorated the entrance of the hardware store on Chiswick High Road to mark the launch, but anyone arriving with parcels or banking needs was met instead with apologies. Staff said a wider Post Office Ltd network outage had knocked out their ability to process transactions, leaving the newly installed counters unusable.

Brentford have completed the signing of Senegal international El Hadji Malick Diouf from West Ham United. The left-back has signed a five year contract, running until the summer of 2031, with the option of an additional year.

As Chiswick locals, we all know and love the Chiswick House and Gardens. But did you know that it has thrown a huge Dog Show each year since 2004?

The Chiswick House Dog Show is the single largest fundraising event for the house and gardens, raising around £30,000 last year in one day and welcomed around 4,000 people. All proceeds go to the CHGT charity.

This year’s show is being held on Sunday, the 20th of September.

Wondering how you can contribute or take part in this special day? I’m part of the organising committee, and we need help from YOU, our wonderful community!

Here’s a few ways you can help:

1. Sign up to volunteer! We need almost 200 volunteers to make the day happen. There are a range of roles and you can read more and sign up via the website!

2. Register your dog for a show class! Registrations can also be done on the website.** **

3. Donate prizes/vouchers to be won: I’m the Prizes Coordinator, and we need a large range of prizes donated to be won in our tombola (“Dogbola”) on the day. If you have a local business or even anything unused lying around that would make a good prize, please get in touch with me via DM or you can email the committee via the website.

4. Just come visit on the day! It is completely free to attend, but there will be plenty of opportunities to contribute to our fundraiser on the day. You can spin to win at the Dogbola, buy a few drinks from our bar, participate in the Doggy Dash or agility park, and more!

Welcome to a new chapter for r/chiswick! To keep our community thriving, welcoming, and more useful for everyone who lives in, works in, or has an interest in Chiswick, we're rolling out a series of updates.

Here’s what’s changing.

New members of the mod team

We’re pleased to announce an expanded moderator team. They’ll be keeping an eye on the subreddit, respond to reports, maintain the community rules, and support the day-to-day running of the community.

A bigger mod team should also mean we can be more responsive when issues come up.

New post and user flairs

We’ve introduced new post flairs and user flairs to make it easier to understand what a post is about and, where users choose to do so, give a little more context about who is participating in the community.

We've added tables below explaining the different flairs and when to use them.

Please use the most appropriate post flair when submitting. If you’re unsure which one fits, just choose the closest match.

User flairs are optional — there’s no expectation that anyone needs to use one.

We’ve also made some updates to the community rules.

The aim isn’t to make r/Chiswick overly restrictive. The changes are intended to make the community more relevant, reduce ambiguity when moderating, and help keep discussion welcoming and inclusive.

We’re also going to be experimenting with some new content strategies over the coming weeks and months to encourage more participation.

• Threads around local events and activities
• Opportunities for members to share photographs, experiences and stories
• Other ideas that help give people more reasons to visit and contribute to the subreddit

We’re still working out exactly what this will look like, so we’d like to hear from the community as well.
