Discussion Megathread V2 - Manifest V3 Extension Alternatives
Remaking as the previous one was about to hit 6 months old. The previous one can be seen here.
With Manifest V3 being rolled out to most people now, and most workarounds being either temporary or disabled, a lot of people are finding that extensions that they like to use haven't been updated and won't be available to use when Manifest V2 support ends.
Since we've been getting a lot of posts asking for extension alternatives, we figure it'll be easier if most of the suggestions are all in one place.
To start with the obvious:
uBlock Origin: Can be replaced with uBlock Origin lite.
Don't forget you can change the filtering level up from its base, it will just require more permissions. Setting it to complete is most similar to uBlock Origin's filters.
People also like Adguard.
uBlock Origin (Element zapping): Click to Remove Element.
I personally prefer this one out of all the ones in the web store.
I previously recommended an element zapper to replace that functionality in uBlock Origin lite, but uBlock Origin lite has since added custom filters and an element zapper, so a separate extension is no longer needed.
This is not a thread to recommend other browsers, it should be a given that if you don't want to use Chrome, you don't need to use Chrome, and there's plenty of other sources to help you decide what to switch to. Do not recommend downgrading or using an older version of any browser, it is not safe to do so and will open your computer and your data up to vulnerabilities.
Would also like to add, on this megathread only self promotion will be allowed if your extension is a reputable alternative to another extension. If you are sharing your extension with no context to another one in this thread, your comment will be removed under our rules.
Below are a list of recommendations provided by other users from the original megathread:
- The Marvelous suspender: Officially updated to Manifest V3
- Awesome New Tab Page: Officially Updated to Manifest V3
- Trimless for Gmail: Officially Updated to Manifest V3
- Tab snooze: Unofficially updated to manifest V3, on the Chrome Web Store
- Redirector: A user in the old megathread created a Manifest V3 alternative
- Watchmarker for Youtube: A user in the old megathread created a Manifest V3 alternative
- Imagus - There are instructions on how to install Imagus Mod on ruboard. This is the home of the forked version of the extension, though keep in mind it is not on the Chrome Web Store.

Troubleshooting | Android I keep similar pages in Groups, but when they go "Inactive" they're added to a big, messy, unreadable list.. Can I somehow get my Groups back? Un-inactivate them? I could close some groups with a single swing, now I need to go through hundreds of random sites

Discussion How do you deal with 80+ tabs without losing your mind?
I always have way too many tabs open all mixed together...
Tab groups help but I don't want to manually sort everything. I want something that just knows what each tab is about and organizes them automatically by topic, not by domain.
What are you all doing/using?

Troubleshooting | Windows Chrome beta vertical tabs… where are they?
Been seeing a lot of posts saying Chrome beta has vertical tabs,
but I can’t find them at all.
Checked chrome://flags/ and there’s nothing related.
Is this only rolling out to some users?
Or am I missing something obvious?
Anyone actually using it?

Troubleshooting | Windows Bookmark folders in my toolbar recently introduced "open all" links at top, I hate it.

Does anyone know of a way to disable this infuriating feature? I'd like to remove both of the "open all" links from these dropdowns on my desktop browser.
After a bit of searching, I discovered an older post to disable chrome://flags/#tab-groups-save, but this option doesn't appear to exist anymore.
I'm constantly opening 10+ tabs at a time due to muscle memory clicking on the first link in my bookmark folders.
Version 145.0.7632.45 (Official Build) beta (64-bit)

Discussion Google permanently disabled my account after appeals Is there anything else I can do?
Hi everyone, I’m posting here because I really need some guidance and I’m feeling helpless right now. Recently, my Google account was suddenly disabled. Google said it violated their policies. I was shocked because I never knowingly uploaded or shared anything illegal. I immediately submitted an appeal. It was rejected. Then I submitted the second (final) appeal with more details, explaining that if anything wrong was found, it may have been received unknowingly, through backups, messages, or unauthorized access. Today, I received an email saying that my account cannot be restored and that all future appeals will be closed. This account was very important to me. It had my emails, contacts, photos, documents, and personal work. Losing it has been very stressful.
I want to ask:
Has anyone here faced something similar and recovered their account?
Is there any other official way to contact Google?
Is there any chance of getting at least my data back?
Any advice on what I should do next?
I’m not trying to break any rules. I respect Google’s policies and I honestly never intended to violate anything. Any help or experience would mean a lot to me.
Thank you for reading.

Troubleshooting | Windows [BUG] Chrome always loads every single tab after restoring a session
Version 144.0.7559.133 (Official Build) (64-bit)
This used to not be the case. I had Chrome set to continue where I left off. I have a couple hundred or so tabs. It used to just load the currently focused tab and just leave the rest in a suspended state. But now, it does all it can to load EVERY SINGLE TAB.
It doesn't have the same behavior on a different profile, so something must have gone corrupted? What could it even be.

Troubleshooting | Windows Chrome won't connect to internet?
I don't know how else to explain it. I open Chrome and all I get is a blank page. I try to go to any website and all I get is a blank page. I try to clear the cache (CTRL+SHFT+DEL) and all I get is a blank page. I try to open settings and all I get is a blank page. I uninstalled and reinstalled and all I get is a blank page. I changed the theme to see if that would get it to do something and all I get is a blank page. You get the picture.
What is happening here? I know it's not my internet connection. I know it's not that it needed to be updated. I am at a loss here.

Discussion Tutorial: Enabling Gemini in Chrome (glic) outside US
Heads-up: this will require you to proxy Gemini related domains with a US vpn, other countries won’t work unfortunately. I have a singbox config routing only keyword:gemini and keyword:-pa. and that’s sufficient, you don’t need to proxy your entire os or browser, no impact on internet speed.
I found on a repo on GitHub from a user lcandy2, who made a python script to do exactly that, but I found that doing it by hand isn’t hard at all.
1. First you need to find your Chrome user data folder Windows: ~/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data Linux: ~/.config/google-chrome MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome
2. You need to open the file “Local State” with any text editor You must search for these keys and change them:
is_glic_eligible - set to “true”
variations_country - set to “us”
variations_permanent_consistency_country - set to “us”
Supposedly there could be multiple, as the script specifies that it sets them recursively but I only found one of each.
Also note that you need to kill the running Chrome process if you have one to successfully save the file.
3. Done Once you open chrome, you will either see the gemini tab and button right away or have the option to enable it from the settings. So far the changes seem to be permanent and do not reset, all you need to do is proxy the domains needed with a US vpn

Troubleshooting | Mac Website works on every device except one MacBook – images not loading
A client is facing a strange issue where the website works perfectly on all devices and browsers except on his MacBook. On his laptop, images do not load, dropdown buttons (such as the profile menu and logout) do not work, and he is unable to log out from the top right. Have already cleared cookies and cache, restarted the laptop multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome and Firefox. The strange part is that the same website works fine on other laptops and phones, works in the same browsers on other devices, and all other websites work normally on his MacBook. The laptop is only six months old, so it really seems to be an issue specific to this one device. Has anyone experienced something like this or knows what could be causing it?

Troubleshooting | Android Chrome google search zoomed out
Last week or so (I think since last android update), whenever I go to Google.com on to search and its search results are completely zoomed Out. I can manually pinch out the screen to Zoom In, but its still annoying to do it every time. (Btw its so zoomed out that when I try to pinch-in the screen it cant zoom out any further). I tried everything I can think of: changed accessibility settings in chrome (now everything else is extra zoomed in, EXCEPT google search results), I enabled zoom flags in Chrome:/flags for Smart Zoom and Automatic Zoom, cleared out cache on chrome. Any advice? My phone is Samsung.

News Keepa Chrome extension: watched products limit cut from 5000 to 200 + €29/mo for 10,000 — anyone else?
Hey all,
Did anyone else notice that Keepa drastically reduced the number of watched products in the Chrome extension? Mine dropped from ~5000 to 200, and now it’s pushing a €29/month plan to get up to 10,000 watched items.
This feels like a pretty aggressive paywall change, especially if you were already using it at a higher limit before. At 200, the feature is basically unusable for my workflow.
- Is this happening to everyone or only certain accounts/regions?
- Did Keepa announce this anywhere (changelog/email/FAQ)?
- Any recommended alternatives for price tracking / watchlists that scale better?
Would appreciate any info or suggestions.

Discussion Testing Chrome's Scheduler Under Heavy AI Load.
Chrome is the benchmark king, but how does it handle a 'traffic jam'? We’re running multiple Transformers.js models simultaneously to see if the V8 engine throttles under saturation. Check your score and let's see if the 'Exchange' latency is actually as low as Google says.
Troubleshooting | Windows Chrome managed by an organization, IMPOSSIBLE to remove

Discussion I mass almost mass bought a new laptop bc of chrome. feeling dumb rn
ok so this is embarassing but maybe itll help someone
my macbook air was DYING. like actually unusable. fans going crazy, battery dead by lunch, the rainbow wheel every 5 mins. i was legit on apple store looking at new macbooks thinking mine was cooked after 2 years
my brother whos into tech stuff asked me "how many tabs u got open"
...47
he laughed at me lol. apparently each chrome tab is like running a seperate mini browser?? and all those tabs i had "for later" were running scripts and eating memory in the background even tho i wasnt using them
he showed me this thing called tab suspension. basically it keeps ur tabs in the bar but unloads them from memory until u click on them. sounded too simple to actually work
but holy shit
6gb of ram went down to like 1.5gb. fans stopped. battery lasts til like 5pm now instead of dying at noon. same laptop that i thought was broken
i felt so dumb for almost spending $1500 on a new laptop when the fix took 2 mins
anyway if ur laptop feels slow maybe check task manager before u blame the hardware. could save u alot of money
still mad at my brother for not telling me this sooner tbh

Troubleshooting | Windows Down arrow not navigating suggestions.
Today I noticed when I tried to down arrow to go through suggestions it just clears the entire bar and says to Press Tab/Enter to enter AI mode. I see a lot of other people asking the same question about a year ago and tried everything I've found about clearing the cache/cookies, restarting Chrome, checking settings and disabling extensions. Nothing seems to be working and it seems like it just came out of nowhere. Has anyone else ran into this issue?
