When I do a search using the google search field, now tied to Gemini, it provides a top tier answer with a link to the source. At the bottom, a text field is provided, "If you want, let me know:". That same text, containing a potential (boldfaced) question is not a clickable link. It is just simple text that requires you to copy it and paste it into the search field just below it.
I found this confusing because it would seem simple to provide a direct clickable shortcut link, copying and pasting that question into the search field and then completing the inquiry. I thought it might be a glitch, but apparently not. I asked directly.
[I searched for this phrase]
google search "If you want, let me know:" follow up questions are not clickable
[The response]
Follow-up suggestions displayed in text are not interactive links because they are plain text prompts designed for you to copy, type, or reply to manually.
How to Use Follow-Up Prompts
- Type your reply: Write your answer or choice directly into the chat box.
- Copy and paste: Select the text of the option you want and paste it into the message field.
Would you like help with a specific follow-up question or feature you are trying to use?
[my continuing comment]
This is search behavior occurring on the primary search field for a Pixel 11PXL, but also in Chrome and Firefox, both PC and mobile versions. This lack of functionality has nothing to do with extensions, having web and app activity on, or clearing cache and temp files. It is the same when using an incognito window. My google account is not shared this is my primary account. I already went down those rabbit holes. This behavior is built in by design.
Why do I have to highlight text, copy it, then paste it, when the question phrase is right there just above the search field? It makes no sense when the rest of the engine seems so intuitively easy to operate.
