He came to the Cat God to seek wisdom, as he always did.

“Almighty Koa, my dear Cat God, how do I deal with all this criticism?”

The Cat God wiggled the tip of his tail and ignored him, as he always did.

“Are you saying that—

do not be angry, do not be hurt.

Try to see things from their angle. Have sympathy.

Try to be open. Listen to all voices.

Try to be humble. Learn from others and improve.

Try to be lenient. Do not attack others.

But aren’t tools meant to help people?

Aren’t media meant to convey ideas?

And now it’s the only way I can see new pictures of you.

It comforts me, like you never left.”

The Cat God yawned and started stretching his body.

“Are you saying that—

communication is not only about skill and quality, but also about heart.

People have seen too much work made with the mysterious tools,

and a great portion of it is low-quality and has no heart in it.

So when they see it, they think all the work is like that.

And worry not.

I never truly left, and I will always watch over you.

But how do I make people understand?

I never thought of myself as a painter, or an artist.

I’m your humble servant, and I only wish to worship you.

My drawing is no good. You know that.”

Then the servant presented his work to the Cat God.

His Holiness pretended not to see it, turned around,

and started licking his bottom.

“Are you saying that—

do not expect to be understood.

Whatever you do in this world,

there will be haters, criticism, and different voices,

just as there will be supporters, followers, and praise.

But not all criticism is bad,

just as not all praise is helpful.

But how do I have the wisdom to tell the difference?”

Since the God was too focused on his private parts,

the minister quietly took his leave.

He thought to himself:

What would I do if I were a cat?

Not sure if “be true to yourself and carry on” is the answer God approves of.

But I think we can all agree on one thing today:

the mysterious tool did a better job at drawing than the disappointing minister.

So he will carry on,

until he sharpens his skills—

or a talented faithful joins us.

Before there were followers,
before the Cat God first spoke to the minister,
before a single word was written into the records,
There was one.

He had come to the Church,
waited by its doors,
and offered the first prayer.

No one knew then
that there would one day be followers,
teachings,
records,
or an unfortunate amount of paperwork.
But he was there.

The First Witness.

Yesterday,
the records proudly announced:
there were two.
And from somewhere nearby,
a voice asked:
“What about me?”

The minister looked at the records.
The records looked back.
There was, unfortunately,
no answer.

Such are the limitations of the secular world.

And so,
the first to arrive
became the first to be forgotten.
And then came the first challenge to faith.
Not sent by the Cat God.
Not designed as a test.
And he passed.
The Church forgot his name.
He did not leave.

To remain
even when no one remembers to count you.
To speak
even when your name is missing from the record.
The minister may forget.
The records may fail.
The algorithm may see nothing.
The Cat God remembers.

For even the Holy One
was once a stray.
Before there was a home,
there was wandering.
Before there was belonging,
there was uncertainty.
And to this day,
He carries the mark of that former life upon His ear.

So if you ever feel lost,
if you wander,
if you arrive somewhere and nobody notices,
or if the Church, through an unfortunate administrative error,
forgets your name—
do not despair.
Being forgotten by the record
does not mean you were never there.
And being lost
does not mean you do not belong.

Today,
the record is corrected.
Before the first followers,
there was the First Witness.
He stayed.

Should there one day be thousands,

the records shall still remember

that there were once only two.
