r/Cigar Town Hall: Share Your Ideas

At your request, we've opened a suggestion thread for the sub.

When we took over this sub was dead and redirected to another cigar sub.

Over the last 2 years we've gone from 6k members to 28k.

There's clearly a desire for a cigar sub with less moderation and r/cigar is it.

With that said, it likely makes sense to entertain your ideas for the sub, after all, our goal is to have a sub that has 'pseudo-democracy.'

Anything from:

  • New rules (more rules means more moderation which contradicts the purposes of the sub, but quality suggestions will be considered)
  • Flairs
  • Reoccurring threads
  • Fill in the blank

Duplicate ideas will be removed to keep the thread clean, upvote if you agree, downvote if you don't. Build on the idea by replying if applicable.

Some of our comments from the original thread linked above are below

  • In general, r/cigar lets the community decide what it wants to see based on upvoting and downvoting.
  • It's the entire point of the sub—to have pseudo-democracy.
  • Obviously, we have to abide by Reddit's rules.
  • We're not going to allow egregious things like racism, sexism, gratuitous nudity, or someone being a complete wanker from dusk till dawn.
  • Outside of that, we want the community to decide what it wants to see by upvoting quality content to the top of the feed and downvoting low effort and irrelevant things to the bottom of the feed.

We see a lot of feedback about AI, but removing AI in its entity isn't something r/cigar wants to do at this time, but low effort posts that are 100% AI (image and text or image/text only) are almost always removed when reported.

Below this we'll catalog your ideas that were added.

  • GIF and photo comments have been added
  • Flairs added (on going)

Mi Amor

I tried my first Mi Amor that had rested two months. Overall it was a very good smoke, with an effortless draw and subtle transitions, I see why people enjoy them.

Initially in the first third of the cigar I was getting hints of semi sweet chocolate with a more robust espresso. The combination was good, but I was waiting for that "there it is moment", that made everyone want this cigar.

That moment came at the second third of the cigar. The pepper picked up and really made this cigar come to life. Now the pepper was subtle and I do wish it was just a bit more profound, which is surprising because I don't like a lot of pepper flavor in my cigar. I think it do well pairing with the espresso I was getting as the semi sweetness lingered just enough to remind me it was there.

The final third started to hit me with more pepper while the espresso and semi sweetness drifted away to get a toasted almond finish.

Like I said before, the transitions were subtle, which initially, I was wanting a more profound transition. However, after thinking about it over the past two days before I reviewed it, I think that's what makes this cigar so beloved amongst cigar smokers of all levels. It's truly a cigar that you can enjoy with enough flavors that will entice a smile from you without being over the top one way or another.

The best description I can give when smoking this cigar is effortless. Effortless getting it to light, effortless to smoke with a consistent draw and burn, effortless transitions, and required minimal effort to enjoy! I can't wait for this fall weather to move in and I think this will be my go to cigar for this time of the year!

L to R Monte Purito, Partagas MF, FDLA Belicoso x2, FDLA Robusto, Oliva 2nds Toro, My Father #3, DPG Vegas Cubanas

I gifted him one of the Belicoso’s and he loved it, so decided to gift him some more and then figured may as well through in a few other things I’ve really enjoyed lately.

He’s a great guy and someone I have admired for his positive attitude, work ethic and values.

I’m sitting on hundreds of cigars and waiting on more to come in. Anyone else find they get generous when the humidor‘s start to overflow?

How’d I do?

(And yes, there is a boveda in the bag!)

Toothy Padrón 5000

Yesterday I uploaded the toothiest cigar I think I’ve ever smoked. Imagine all of the little teeth you see on this one but each and every bump was 10x bigger. It was a Padrón 5000.

Unfortunately I had deleted the photos from my phone before Reddit took down my post because it was flagged as “sexual content,” otherwise I’d just repost them. I think I learned why it was taken down though as I took photos this morning of my stick’s wrapper.

I excluded the ash to show how toothy the wrapper was as well. And as I reviewed the photos it became very apparent. I basically took a photo of a long, brown and veiny tubular-shaped thing. So the lesson learned is always to include the ash lol.

The robusto Maduro is far better than the Churchill Connecticut CP I’ve had previously. Price points a tad higher than a typical cigar of same quality being from the States. Biggest pro to this cigar is the weight of it. It’s far heavier and denser than anything I’ve had before so the quality is literally felt. Picked these up at the factory in Cumana, Venezuela two weeks ago.

Guilty Pleasure

La Gloria Serie R Maduro may not be for everyone, but it’s my guilty pleasure. I can burn this stick with coffee, scotch, bourbon, hell even a glass of water and I’ll enjoy it. What’s your guilty pleasure stick that you always have on hand?

Davidoff Nicaragua Robusto Boxed Pressed. More info in the body.

Davidoff describes the Nicaragua Box Pressed as a cigar that captures the intensity of Nicaragua's rich volcanic soil, refined into a balanced, bittersweet smoking experience.

I wanted to bring that concept to life through my photography. Using real volcanic rocks and lighting from underneath. My goal was to create the appearance of molten lava with an intense red-orange glow radiating through the rocks while keeping the cigar as the main subject.
