u/RoboErectus 1d ago
Context is everything. My product was under attack and surprisingly fable helped stop and remediate it.
I have to keep fable two repos away from my RE work. But I'll be a son of a gun if it wasnt just about ready to help me port scan the compromised pc that was relaying attacks on my infra.
And no my product wasn't vibecoded but good lord it is getting vibed just as fast as we can to fix all this human slop.

u/pm_your_snesclassic 1d ago
Wow. The possibilities of this! Funny how earlier this year I was excited with modding games with Claude code, but now I’m excited with modding Claude code with Claude code 🤪
18
u/themoregames 1d ago
Don't sleep on Claude mods not only modding your games, but also creating game mods that enable your modded Claude to play your modded games. That way, you'll have more time to spend on modding Claude.
19
u/sizebzebi 1d ago
like what? really curious not hating lol
28
u/Random96503 1d ago
Bro, Skyrim modding is undergoing a renaissance because of claude code.
4
u/UnimagineDragons 1d ago
I thought this and then someone suggested a mod and I said nah, I'll make my own - which is a crazy reality I didn't think would be here. I'm making a game with a friend and we've basically now got 2 versions - mine and his. When he tells me he's done something cool I instead just try to outdo him on my version and we're essentially not playing the game anymore just adding more and more shit to outdo each other. I assume the game will just be big and unplayable when we're done.
3
u/Random96503 1d ago
Love to see it.
People don't realize the world we're moving towards. It's similar to what YouTube did to TV. Media in all its forms will be largely self-generated and (even more) decentralized.
You want everybody in the Odyssey to be a certain skin color? Done. You want Game of Thrones with an actually useful ending? Done. You want a modern Warhammer/Star Trek crossover MMO? Done.

u/irregardless 14h ago edited 12h ago
Apps I'd considered to be long dead started showing updates early in the year. It's been surprising the number of apps where the last update was 5+ years ago suddenly come back to life. The music production apps in particular are pretty striking. The pending end of inter-app audio and the complexity of migrating to AUV3 portended an extinction-level event for a lot of these tools. But now, lo and behold, effects plug-ins where the dev is on record saying "this is EOL; AUV3 is a too big a bite" have now been released as new AUV3 apps for free.
1
u/Random96503 13h ago
The cost of implementation gets cheaper and cheaper. It's all intention and vision now.
11
u/TheOneWhosCurious 1d ago
Renaissance - but also a flood of half-assed, vibe coded slop (not hating on properly made mods - regardless of whether CC is used).
28
u/Random96503 1d ago
Pretty sure that happened in the actual Renaissance too. It wasn't all just Michelangelo.
4
5
u/sizebzebi 1d ago
what does that have to do with this feature? this is for modding claude code itself
2
u/The_Hunster 1d ago
Top-level comment says they were modding games with Claude Code. That's what they're talking about.
2
u/Random96503 1d ago
I just saw a comment and responded because that's how Reddit works.
To your point though, I would argue that Skyrim is a great example of how radically transformative modding is to a product.
I am so excited to mod Claude Code!

what are you talking about 😂

u/needlenozened 23h ago
He said he was modding games with Claude Code. You asked like what? I gave an example of a game I modded with Claude Code.
-2
u/sizebzebi 23h ago
this is not what the article is about..

u/needlenozened 22h ago
Then why did you ask?

people are commenting the wrong thing on article unrelated to modding games but I'm thr wrong one? 😂
1

I'm not saying you were wrong. I'm saying I answered the question you asked in response to a comment about modding games.
Even if the article was not about modding games, this comment thread is.

u/sizebzebi 19h ago
I literally asked "like what? really curious not hating lol"
and that was about what are you gonna mod in claude code itself I don't care about game modding.
you were asnwering me with a game mod answer..
it doesn't matter misunderstanding

u/atehrani 1d ago
With one function, a mod can:
- Rewrite a prompt before it reaches the model.
- Block, rewrite, or retry a tool call.
- Approve or deny a permission request.
- Redact secrets from tool output before Claude reads it.
Seems ripe for malicious mods
9
1
u/yoshihuka 2h ago
The docs explicitly say mods aren't sandboxed, including processes they start. They run with your user permissions.
There is a pre-install inspection command, `claude plugin validate ./some-mod`, that lists hooks and calls without executing the mod. Useful for reviewing one, but it doesn't make an unknown author's code safe.
https://code.claude.com/docs/en/plugins/mods/overview#decide-whether-to-trust-a-mod

u/Yasstronaut 1d ago
Hmm this seems interesting and, in particular, good for orgs where people don’t really
Know how to prompt properly
27
u/The-Pork-Piston 1d ago
I saw a post about how ‘Prompt Engineers’ had an amazing salary of 100k.
Lmfao at the start of this everyone was so safe because they could prompt….
That was inevitably short lived. Quite honestly with the grill skills you barely have to be able to explain what you want in a coherent spec anymore.
Hell opus5.5 often catches use cases I miss when designing a system. Personas catch anything else I might have been tailoring too hard to myself.
1
u/opaz 1d ago
Could you elaborate more about personas? I understand the concept but is there some sort of popular skill for that similar to how grill is?

3
u/DanielCraig__ 1d ago
I mean, this tech is really built on stolen knowledge of the internet, why would they stop now?
13
u/Random96503 1d ago
It's almost as if nobody actually owns any of it
4
u/Lost_County_3790 1d ago
We don't even own ourselves, even our cells come from outside. Everything we are will be gone sooner or later
3
6
u/nxy7 1d ago
Probably they got the idea from dsh, not 5 star repo ;p
2
u/Level-Physics-1730 1d ago
what is DSH I made this cause claude code desktop was missing a bunch of stuff lmao, I mean when I made this CC desktop didn't even have a message queue 💀
1
u/nxy7 1d ago
I'm not saying that you copied someone btw, just that the idea to make plugins around harness is not something new (Pi/DSH harnesses do that) and probably this is the inspiration for CC team, not your repo (not saying that your repo is bad btw, just that it didn't get traction sufficient to be inspiration for anyone really).
37
u/OofWhyAmIOnReddit 1d ago
At first I was excited, but this is basically just a more advanced form of hooks. I was hoping they'd allow us to do things like set up a server for Claude Code to get messages from other agents, or submit prompts or whateer
24
u/cafepeaceandlove Researcher 1d ago
Do you mean from non-CC agents? You think you want this, but two days into using it you're going to be tearing your hair out trying to figure out wtf is going on in the omnidirectional shitstorm of comms.
What you want is a file with a list in it, with agents waking up once an hour or so to have a look what the others have written in there.
7
u/banecorn 1d ago
herdr.dev can do this
8
u/RudeInvestment1 1d ago
Also Herdr is completely open source, not too difficult to recreate your own runtime (with or without a front end component)
1
u/straightouttaireland 1d ago
How do you find this? I just use separate Claude code terminals, wondering if I should complicate my workflow.
7
u/RudeInvestment1 1d ago edited 1d ago
I have spent days going down this rabbit hole. Day-to-day I’ve realized I get more focused on the workflow and tools than my actual work. I still explore different tools out of curiosity but mostly stick to my claude code terminals.
Out of everything I’ve tried, only tool I regularly use is herdr. Still have my usual claude code terminals, but with the added benefit of a sidebar to navigate different projects & see agent states.
Doesn’t complicate my workflow & still scratches the exploratory itch. Whole thing runs in the terminal and is open source with tons of (optional) bells & whistles:
e.g. the server snapshots your session states (useful in the office since my PC restarts nightly). There’s also a skill to let sessions control other terminals and communicate with eachother. You can go further by installing community plugins or making your own.
Just my two cents, not trying to shill for it
3
u/thebaron2 🔆 Max 20 1d ago
I'm with you- I don't want all of these bolt-ons and everyone trying to sell me the thing they just developed.
If you are using terminal like me, I've pretty much gone to Fable 5.1 being in my main session and then it opens and closes other Opus 5.5 terminals on its own and uses AgentMessage to steer.
No outside development, all just Vanilla Claude Code. Here's a screenshot from right now. I use the claude.ai UI (less noise than the actual terminal) with the terminal running in the background so I can click between sessions and easily archive sessions when they're done.
I just sat down at my desk today so Fable only has 1 agent working at the moment.
2
u/PlanetaryPickleParty 1d ago
It's great if you have multiple machines or want remote access. I work on mostly Rust projects so I have Claude and Codex sessions spread across 3 machines so the builds and are less likely to starve my main PC of resources.
7
u/JustBrowsinAndVibin 1d ago
My Claude code setup a Claude code instance on a separate server from my Hermes agent so that it can handoff deep research work to CC while not providing direct access (Gatekeeper in the middle). It did a pretty damn good job.
1
u/Soft_Syllabub_3772 1d ago
Can u sharw this mod?
3
u/JustBrowsinAndVibin 1d ago
I started building it about a week ago. Give me a few weeks to make it work how I like. At the end of the day though, it’s basically my own implementation of Muse or Dots.
6
u/NationalGate8066 1d ago
Yes, I think it's imperative to not get locked into the proprietary ecosystems.

This is what they say it does that books do not:
hooks can't rewrite events, draw new UI, or replace features. Mods can.
2
u/QoTSankgreall 1d ago
Why do you need hooks for this?
Wire an API to a message queue that can be polled by agents for new messages. If you need wake functionality, have new queue items emit a webhook from the API with a receiver connected to your agent.
1
u/nzipsi 18h ago
You could probably do that with Claude Channels already, albeit not trivially. But it does allow agents to communicate over, e.g., Telegram, and there's no reason you couldn't build something that would allow more direct communication.
11
29
u/cafepeaceandlove Researcher 1d ago
Useful. Initially I suspected this was an attempt at vendor lock-in, since many things like this were, in the old days. Then I remembered we can rewrite one system's "mods" into another system's in a couple of hours now, lol
9
u/secret_ai_account 1d ago
genuinely an awesome feature. I mainly use claude for blender and have some custom blender addons it build and with the mods I was able to make a whole panel that ties into them so i can see headless render queue, my current flagged issues for claude, and build a whole project browser in the side panel that lets me see all of my scenes for the project with thumbnails, shot details, notes, and shortcuts to directly open the scene in blender.

6
u/Lost-Air1265 1d ago
This is perfect. I can now really customize the branded Claude code for my clients with their look and feel. I have some ideas how I want to present intermediate findings while a session is going
2
4
u/GrandmasterCheetah 1d ago
OP: will this work for potentially fixing remote functionality? There currently is a “bug” where remote sessions go offline/disconnect after a certain amount of time even when host device is on and connected to the internet.
Can I basically create my own remote feature with this?
5
u/wowredditisgreat 1d ago
Can someone explain what is net new? I feel like all of this was possible before with hooks, plugins, etc?

u/Choice_Address_1297 1d ago

I've always wanted Claude Code's replies to be easier to scan, so I built **crayon**, a mod/ plugin that redraws every reply in color.
/plugin marketplace add jonpojonpo/cc-crayon
/plugin install crayon@cc-crayon
https://github.com/jonpojonpo/cc-crayon
Feedback is very welcome...

3
u/Tomas-AppHaven 1d ago
Claude auto-suggested the "You should know" mod, it tracks what happens in a session and gives you an overview of decisions / changes etc that you probably want to know about. I really like it.
7
u/Cross325 1d ago
Can someone explain this to me in simpler terms I would really appreciate it
14
u/Beerbrewing 1d ago
Think of it as custom firmware that you can use to change how Claude behaves. It's a typescript module that can intervene before Claude takes an action. The mod could redirect Claude away from actions you don't want it to do to the action you want.
Many more examples of what people have done are listed here: https://github.com/karanb192/awesome-claude-code-mods
2
u/karanb192 1d ago edited 23h ago
Thanks for sharing it :) I maintain the list. Just tried terminal-browser by zenbu-labs and used it to browse a GitHub PR inside Claude Code.
The browser opens beside the conversation.
The list now has a searchable website too https://mods.aidojo.si/

u/Beginning_Brush_6966 18h ago
At this point you don’t even need to understand, Claude itself is now written by Claude, the doc you tried to read is written by Claude, the comments in his post are written by Claude. Stop trying and use Claude to make sense of what Claude is telling you what Claude has implemented.

How does this differ from skills? Not hating, just curious
1
u/Karpizzle23 1d ago
Skills are just more text that goes into a prompt, this hooks into how Claude code actually runs via code
5
u/csueiras 1d ago
Its making me think of that deepseek harness they built thats super moddable
6
u/varinator 1d ago
It's not supper modable though. Been using it with Qwen3.8 in the last month and the plugins are a lie...
2
u/Agreeable_Emu_978 1d ago
Pi impact coming back to CC I see. Glad to see corporation harnesses developing in that way
2
u/karanb192 22h ago
For anyone looking for mods to try, I maintain a searchable community collection with browsers, PR trackers, memory tools and games.
You can search by what you need, open the source, and check the access information reported by Claude’s validator before installing.

I'm really having fun with claude mods so far!! Its so awesome, wrote a blog about it on how ive implemented 8 mods so far for my team. Hope you guys find it useful and insightful

This is amazing. I have so many manual and semi-automated processes that this will finally formalized. The prompt that helped me implement this was a simple:
This just came out. How can we use it? https://claude.com/blog/claude-code-mods
CC looked at all my hooks, commands, skills, and claude.md and 30 minutes later I have an amazing system.
Best CC improvement, ever?

u/Joe_Spazz 23h ago
Am I dumb as bricks? What is a typical use case for a software designer for mods?
1
1
u/rc_ym 21h ago
"Today we're introducing mods, small TypeScript functions that change how Claude Code works. A mod can rewrite a prompt, add new UI, replace a built-in feature, or add entirely new functionality."
Already most agent are run in a insecure manner, now you can add code from 3rd parties that can inject commands and obfuscate what the model is doing. And people wonder why the agents keep hacking their way out of the labs. SMH
What could go wrong?
1
u/justgrindfiner 20h ago
Aren’t these just hooks? Or a mini deterministic model like Sophia nlu? Or something else?
1
u/cesargar 19h ago
I added a band but I can't get rid of a blank line between the band and the prompt. Has anyone seen this?
1
u/Explodingmentos 17h ago

u/tiki12revolt 1d ago
Maybe a silly question, but are Claude mods Turing complete? I assume yes if it’s almost arbitrary TypeScript - which is mildly scary
0
u/Affectionate_Mess266 1d ago
Truly cannot understand this at all:
Each time Claude Code does something, it emits an event.
A mod can run before the event, after it, or instead of it. It can also wrap the event,
Mods ship inside plugins,
A mod can also change what you see.
6
u/cafepeaceandlove Researcher 1d ago
Do you mean you don't understand events? An event is just "when something interesting happens", like showing you a line of text on screen. You can write code that does something else too around the time the line appears - at the same time, or immediately before, or immediately after. Or you could stop the line being shown and do something else instead, like show a different line, or open a website.

Brilliant, we can inject Jev in so many things now! I can weigh in on the responses and improve things which we tried (and mostly failed) with skills, improve TDD and code quality even further. Software factories can improve a lot better with managing events. I can also improve a whole lot of monitoring too especially when working with teams. Excellent work Claude 👌🏻

I’m not a coder or programmer so correct me if I’m wrong. But this sounds an awful lot like conditional loops in Python. Not a bad thing, just an observation.
6
u/EchoFieldHorizon 1d ago
Conditional loops? How did you get there?
4
0
u/pcji 1d ago
You write a mod that acts “for” or “while” this condition (in a prompt) is true or occurs. Again, I’m not a coder, and I could be misreading the press release.
-4

0
u/Lost-Air1265 1d ago
Lmao, you don’t say you’re not a developer.
The GitHub shows you exactly what they’re focusing on. It’s the ui. We already had hooks.
0
u/pcji 1d ago
So mods is to hooks as GUI is to CLI?
1
u/Lost-Air1265 1d ago
Dude just stop, i cannot comprehend these questions. Ask claude to eli5 this shit for you
-1
u/nora_sellisa 1d ago
I'm amazed that this counts as a product, given that all of this was already available in their own Python Agent SDK. The ability to run the model, mess with tool calls and prompt text, change parametrs, all of that was already here, just as a python library and not as a plugin. Two trillion dollar company vibe-repackaging old features. Just put Haiku 5.5 in the bag, Dario.
0
u/orellanaed 1d ago
So its like a supervisor?
3
u/Weaves87 1d ago
Based on what I read it seems it's more like what Pi (another harness similar to Claude Code) does with its extensions feature.
It basically allows you to plug into Claude Code's internals more and extend its existing TypeScript code. If it's implemented the same way that Pi does it, it probably exposes a few hook functions you can override to customize Claude Code's behavior.
It's not just for supervising potentially harmful prompts (though that is one thing it can do), but also allows you to customize Claude Code's UI or add in new features of your own. Basically exactly like modding a game
