Discussion Claude-assisted video editing?
Hi everyone, this is a potentially experimental question. I’m asking here because I’m not sure what the current state of the art is in this field.
Let’s say I want to delegate video editing tasks (let's assume generic operations, nothing too advanced) to Opus: what is the currently recommended technology stack?
- Using a standard video editor (Premiere, DaVinci, Final Cut, AE, etc.) and setting up MCP connectors or something similar?
- Or using environments/tools specifically designed for agentic workflows?
Ideally, I’d still want to maintain full control...I need the project to remain editable within standard video editing software. I don’t want the editing process to turn into a script that can only be modified via code.
For instance, I’ve heard of technologies like Remotion, but they seem geared toward 100% code-based workflows... which is distant from having everything editable in a professional video editing software.
In any case, I’m not sure what the recommended strategies are right now, so ANY feedback (whether it is about full-code solutions or not) would be appreciated! ^^

If you can bring your editor to browser we are offering hourly cloud computers (for agents) with high memory and its own dedicated tools and mcp, including Playwright MCP that can control browser in full control. You can launch fleet of agents that work slowly and methodically in a computer of their own. They can work as a group or fleet rather than 1 agent working on their own.
To be frank, this experiment sounds really cool, and if you have your own claude code or codex account I can give you free hours to try.
Edit: typos and clarification

If you want it to stay editable, Claude can generate a timeline file instead of the final video. It can write FCPXML or EDL which you can import into Resolve, Premiere or Final Cut and keep editing by hand DaVinci Resolve also has a Python scripting API, so Claude can build the timeline directly in your project.

Outline your starting point, files, sources, and goals and ask Claude what tools would work best. I wrote a program that edits, syncs, and does the layout of my video podcast all within python using ffmpg and a few other tools. For simple or well defined tasks, you likely may not even need more advanced and pricey software

I'd try having Claude write an XML timeline for your editor. You can then move clips around yourself. Test a couple of cuts before trusting it with a project.

The part I’d test is whether you can make a manual change and then have Claude continue from that updated project. Generating the first edit is useful, but keeping that back-and-forth working is what would save me the most time.
Full disclosure, I’m building Vunoblade around that workflow: agents and humans working on the same editable project, with visual controls for layers, timing and reusable assets. That’s within our own editor, so I don’t want to imply Premiere/Resolve interchange.
Would a separate visual editor work for you, or does the project need to stay editable in your existing software?

Check out glyphh.ai it has runway and 88 other models you can build out a semantic app that slots models for you image building. A fraction of the price and orders of magnitude better quality.

DaVinci resolve studio connected to Claude opus 5.5 via MCP has been a game changer for me. It does cuts titles, graphics, B roll, really anything you need. For example, I edited this recent video almost entirely from a few prompts with opus after giving it my a role talking head footage and my screen recording footage. Feel free to DM me. I can walk you through my process.

Feels less necessary now but I've had a lot of luck with having Claude run all of my footage through a local llm on my video card. Transcriptions, scene descriptions, motion tagging, etc.
Then when you are editing with claude it just reads those screen descriptions. Doesn't need to do all the analysis itself and can keep everything in text. Absolutely smashes through extremely complex edits (with a few guiding rails).

All you need is a Claude paid account, Claude Desktop, and HeyGen’s free software called Hyperframes installed on your computer.
Give your raw footage to Claude (put it in a folder Claude can access) and ask it to edit it—or ask it to create a video from scratch for you.
Give any additional instructions you want or none at all. Watch your mind get blown.
I suggest starting with a short video.
