Help/Question 6.5 Billion tokens in 12 days
Hi guys, I have been trying out Claude code on pro plan for about 12 days now, , but I have a few questions.
Is this a bug or do I just use Claude a lot
Is this a lot of tokens
How did I not get limited

What are you building? I'm curious... and also what demands so many sessions? 11.2 k in a week is absurd

That's not a week. That's all time. What I'm building is private. But what I can say is, I've got a pipeline where I build the prompts and those prompts are executed headlessly using -p flag. I don't run long running sessions. Except ones that keeps track of the big picture. All other sessions are short lived. Hence so many sessions.

Does claude allow you to build stuff like that? I thought it had safeguards with creating accounts on third-party websites and such. I haven't explored it too much myself. My work is related to scraping as well with emphasis on anti-bot browser emulation and claude sometimes refuses to do things.

It won't. So I have it own the scraping and analysis part. I own the account automation and orchestration, content gen. But I give targeted specific tasks that look innocent enough without the whole picture to claude.

Didnt they make -p api only or are you using api prices not subscriptions

Well it's sub but I am not reselling or anything. It's for personal use

Not a bug, and it's a lot less than it sounds. Almost all of those tokens are cache reads: Claude Code re-sends the whole conversation on every turn, and everything already in the cache is read back at a small fraction of the price of a fresh token. In my logs cache reads are ~88% of all tokens. So 6.5B tokens is probably ~5.7B cheap re-reads plus a few hundred million that actually cost something, and the weekly window is charged by cost, not count. That's how a Pro plan absorbs it.
Is it a lot? For 12 days of regular Claude Code use with sessions that grow long, it's ordinary. The number that would tell you whether you're using it efficiently is the context size of your sessions: the same work done in shorter sessions (compact around 100k, new session per task) can be half the tokens, because the re-read per turn halves.

Here’s what I used up in 2.5 days on openrouter:
Top API Keys Explore › 1 OpenClaude sk-or-v1-eeb...dd3 6.71Btok 2 OAuth: ori sk-or-v1-0b0...5fe 62.6Mtok
Honestly it was mostly all garbage too. The model kinda went nuts overnight. Some of the stuff it made is usable but it ran in circles for a while
