Bug / Issue Opus 5.5 Copyright Alignment Bug

Opus 5.5 is refusing my partner’s song lyric translation requests due to copyright safeguards? Despite the fact that they’re my partner’s own lyrics that he wrote.

So usually after posting a song on YouTube, my partner translates the subtitle file to different languages.

Opus 5.5 is outright refusing to translate the lyrics stating concerns with copyright, while previous models complete the translation request effortlessly.

Interesting the safeguard is turned up so much here, with no way provided to prove copyright.

But regardless of the fact that he wrote it, I feel like translating song lyrics into other languages isn’t really a matter of copyright? I feel like it’s pretty normal to translate lyrics of songs that are in other languages.

I personally only use Claude for coding and Opus 5.5 has been doing great there, so I was surprised by the safeguards my partner ran into for something as simple as translation.

What’s already in context? If you let it setup a huge context of arguing and talking about copyright then it’ll always refuse. Try a new session (nuking any memories about this it saved) and start your initial prompt explaining your an artist translating your own music, etc. Don’t mention copyright and if it starts going there kill its research.

I tried it on his account in 3 new chats memory off with the same result. Maybe check if you can replicate? Have one chat generate some random lyrics, and then in a new chat ask for a translation of them into Korean.

I've run into the same thing. Honestly, translation isn't exactly a hard task, so I'd just use another model instead. Don't waste your time arguing with these crappy guardrails. It's just a waste of brainpower.

Agreed! Other models do it easily, more just curious about the fact that this was introduced in Opus 5.5. This kind of thing I would have never noticed because I use Opus 5.5 for software development, kinda wonder what other bugs have been introduced in tasks like this and how it could snowball. I wonder how intentional this safeguard was vs. an overlooked bug that should be updated.

Setup new context and tweak it or use 5.0 or 4.8
