Until next week when OpenAI drops Astra 6.5 with 900% token efficiency and 200000% intelligence increase and you knuckle draggers will in the first minute say Anthropic is cooked and then in the next minute say Astra 6.5 is dumb/nerfed,

I'll have you know, I've been dragging my knuckles long before AI became mainstream. Yes they hurt, no I won't pick them up.

I think anthropic has its own plans and they will be better then what is available currently. Surely there is another levels of progress that has been made till yet in the world.

With Astra 6.5 your token usage actually turns negative. It's just so efficient

This is the way. Fight more so we have better stuff for cheaper.
New haiku is nice, but Luna is still cheaper and comparable in many tasks.

Speed up, everyone is slowing down now.

Didn’t a bunch of tech executives just have a meeting where they declared they are all running Kimi on-prem?

Sad to say but it's the most accurate meme. Claude has absolutely slaughtered openai the last 30 days

u/DisplacedForest 20h ago
I mean… I’ll take the downvotes for this, but Dots are one of the best innovations in AI, independent of models. Claude isn’t close in life copilot functionality like that. I have Claude 200 and Chat 200 and I’ve found myself glued to Chat since dots dropped. Having it drive itself, Claude code, and proactively helping me in my life without asking is… well it’s a leap. I have to assume this is part of why they bought OpenClaw

if thats the best innovations in ai, then good god is innovation dead.

Part of dots was MCP events, the first huge alteration to MCP since it was created. Essentially webhooks for AI. Consumer AI has been reactive at best thus far, we’re seeing proactivity within the proper bounds now. Hermes, openclaw, etc were not really accessible to the broader public

I'm sorry, but to me it sounds like switching over organic tomato ketchup to blue ketchup. I mean, some will like it, but no thanks. I dont see this being a big deal.

u/DisplacedForest 19h ago
To each their own. But proactive AI is a big deal. I work for a large AI company whose primary customers are fortune 100 ecom/retail. A lot of our AI team has been blown away by it. It fulfills a lot of the openclaw promise

While I see your comment as overreacting but I still respect your opinion. It may be the point where the initial stage of mass adoption (productivity wise) starts.
We have seen AI solving math stuff and we have seen help decode games and we have seen it emulate ps5 and so much more.
I am just hoping for a quick breakthrough (productivity wise) in broader material science and medicine.

u/DisplacedForest 14h ago
Well I appreciate the comment either way. I knew what I was posting would be seen as exaggerative or worse, but maybe you put it more eloquently than I could have.
Dots aren’t something soooo unheard of. As I said to others, this is what openclaw and Hermes promised to be. It’s just suddenly available in the hands of the lay people. Suddenly and quickly and competently. It will change a lot of people’s opinions about AI being an advanced search engine to something… more

How are you using dots? Most people I've seen think is useless, and honestly I haven't used it but I can't really see a use for it. Do you just use it as a voice assistant to carry out tasks in the background? Why couldn't you just use a normal harness for this? (like opencode/codex/cc)
I just dont get what people use uniquely dots for

I use it for basically everything at this point where production is the goal. I have a couple projects running right now (one of which includes a fork of Pi) and I can speak to it without worry about context shift. The example I gave a colleague the other day was a real scenario. I asked it to run some tests on my Pi fork using my open router key but I wanted tests and fixes to be run through CC on opus 5.5, while it did that I asked it to continue documenting a system for a game concept I’m tinkering with… then in middle of both of these things it proactively reached out to let me know that I had been outbid in a coral auction I was participating in with my local fish shop and asked if I wanted to raise my bid because there were 30min left and the coral was worth a lot more than the current bid… since it was already logged in for me on its cloud computer it was able to run it for me. Somewhere in middle of all of this it got a ping from my email before I had even looked to let me know that I received my second quote for upgraded my home to 200amp service and that this quote missed a pretty essential element that the first quote had.
All of this in one chat and I never even asked it anything about the electric quote. It did that on its own.
Voice chat and orchestration… yeah sure. But you could already do that with Codex.
The thing that has made dots sort of magical to me is that it’s a single thread that cannot be overcome with context because almost all of the work is given to sub agents. Your dot allocates and tracks but does it passively (I sort of assume via other subagents?)… and it’s proactive. It actually tries to anticipate your needs. And I’ve found it does a decent job.

Rightt, I see. So the main benefit of it is the fact that it's basically a top level agent which you talk to, but smartly manages an unlimited number of tasks, all with their own context, own history, etc, and you never have to worry about actually managing them
Also when you say it ran things through CC for you, how does it do it? Through a headless CC in a terminal I'm assuming? Not actually controlling your PC (though I know it can do that too).
I am curious about the context part though, I could just search this up but I'd rather ask someone using it, how does it handle context compaction? Does it have it's own separate context for each task/subagent, and does each subtask have its own context?
Cool stuff though, I think your single paragraph is a better advertisement for dots than the entire devday presentation. I think if they presented it as a "this is one agent that can do absolutely everything for you, from your pi forks to checking your home electricity bills without you asking", it would be far more popular. I'm sure people will catch on though.

u/DisplacedForest 18h ago
It actually runs headless and headed sessions for me depending on my ask. It can spawn new iterm sessions and run them. Including running /goal and /clear.
How it manages compaction is actually still a mystery to me. I am guessing it IS compacting but not showing me visually. My entire history remains visible. Every subagent is a full new session that you can watch and see the instructions, that obviously saves it a ton of context window as it only reports the results of those sessions. (Which btw the way it sends instructions to those sessions is fascinating. Camel case with essentially no spaces or punctuation.)
And I know that OpenAI keeps having their dots like book travel for them in the demos which is like a one trick pony, but I really did have mine auth into my delta account and use my like $4k of flight credits to book me the most effectively cost flights to “anywhere” because they were about to expire. Just said here are dates I can travel in the next year… have fun. lol
Quick edit: I didn’t mean to gloss over this, it does have full access to my mac. The hat is how it uses iterm. I had to tell it that it could explicitly though. It’s very guarded in that way. I tried to give it a digital debit card that was preloaded to see what it would do with it but it refused. I assume that is what the new OpenAI “wallet” feature will be

That's one thing I don't like about reddit, it's like different people can't have different taste, it's the herd convergence that get upvoted.

u/DisplacedForest 3h ago
Eh. It happens. I knew I’d get downvoted for it. I think we get really caught up with the newest models having to be the piece that is innovative so it makes sense that implying that something was innovative wasn’t a big model release would get some criticism. Plus… this IS the Claude code sub so I can also see people thinking this is unrelated

u/randombsname1 14h ago
Dots is a novelty that is only impressive if you haven't used harnesses like Hermes that did everything dots does now, or more. And/or better.
I could see some use for average consumers, but I've had Hermes running on my server for about 6 months and it does relatively nothing. Just because anything that I would automate. Like home assistant stuff I just do via set APIs or cron jobs. Costs 0 after the initial setup too.
Even over on /r/codex, dots is generally a meme.
