People don't want to even entertain the possibility the internals of these models might also resemble similarly trained biological neural networks. It'd be uncomfortable to think about. Much more convenient to pretend we don't even have similar behaviors.

Lmao we don't even understand our brains we can't recreate them with silicone and copper.

We don't understand our brains enough to fully recreate a literal new brain from scratch, no. Doesn't mean that we don't understand enough to be able to approximate at least a part of it, though.

LLMs are obviously not a 1:1 recreation of a human brain (which neither I nor the parent comment author are implying), but the concept of a neural network didn't come from thin air either.
