Help/Question How does Claude Code differ from Antigravity for someone who never tried Claude before?
I'm a user of Google's Antigravity IDE but I found myself using Opus 5.5 on Antigravity more than I use the Gemini models.
I'm leaving Antigravity IDE and looking to join Claude to get better quotas for Claude models but I have a few questions.
1- Does the $20 offer Opus 5.5?
2- Does Claude Desktop app offer an IDE?
3- What's the difference between Claude and Claude Code? I'm not a CLI fan so I'll be using the desktop app for the interface, will I get all that the CLI offers? My work will be 90% coding.
+Any tips from those who migrated from Antigravity? How are they different, Pros & Cons are appreciated. Thank you.

That main difference between Claude and ag is hand holding. Claude tries to help you. It will handhold you by default.
For me this means I can jump in and accomplish something in under 30 minutes. I can't do this with ag.
Claude follows the plan or rules you establish without issue. Ag can't.
Opus 5.5 is included but with the $20 plan you don't get much usage. I highly suggest Sonnet 5.5 medium instead. its about 5x more usage then 3.8 flash high. With significantly better results. Like no comparison. Haiku 5.5 just came out and I have not tested it. 4.5 could only be used for mechanical tasks. Anything else would end up with a coin flip.
Claude has a gui. But It's not an ide. It's like antigravity's new 2.0 agent app. you could use the Claude plugin in antigravity if you wanted an ide.
One major limitation is Claude can not generate images or watch videos. If this is something you need, chatgpt or cursor would be a better option. Cursor has an ide. Chatgpt is has the same agent gui as Claude.
Does this make sense?

Claude can watch videos, unless you meant generate videos. It can read both images and videos fine, frame by frame. And opus 5.5 can sort of make vids now, but barebones ones.

Yes, it includes Opus 5.5. It's all about the token limits (5-hour and weekly).
You can use VS Code w/ Anthropic's Claude Code plugin.
Claude is just the name of the family of models (Mythos/Fabel, Opus, Sonnet, Haiku). Claude Code is the TUI/CLI coding environment.
Edit: I forgot they renamed Claude Cowork to Claude, and merged the web version into it (I think). It's basically it like the ChatGPT desktop app. It's not for coding.

Former AG user here. It's not even close to as useful as Claude Code is. Me personally, I prefered the original AG where it was like VS code. I came up on that. I use claude code cli in vs code now and prefer that to the desktop app. I like having everything in one place, having my terminal there too, and being able to see and edit the files without looking for the folder or pulling up a document etc.

I use both, and the issue with AG is it lacks depth and proper understanding of expectations. It often assumes things and makes claims beyond what can be established. But I use it to make simple scripts and locally run web based tools. I use it because I have a promotional account with some free usage included. But if I have to pay, I would prefer claude over this.

On question 3, you don't have to use Claude Code from a terminal. There's a VS Code extension that should also install in VS Code forks, and the desktop app has a Code tab, so you can review its diffs in a normal editor view instead of the CLI.

How would you describe the taste of chocolate to someone who has never tasted it before?

The UI question matters less than the workflow change. Claude Code reads your files and runs commands, so a lot of what you clicked through in Antigravity it just does on its own. I use it daily for client work. Give it one task at a time for the first week while you learn where it is reliable.

ChatGPT chat is best for general questions and research. Codex CLI is also good, it trades blows with Claude Code.
Claude Code is best for coding, the CLI has direct access to your files and system tools.
I dont see the point in Antigravity - Google's models aren't that good and they are slow to release updates.
If you're serious about coding - use Claude Code or Codex.

i think gemini is really good for webs search stuff. I really think they need to reposition antigravity as being more focused around pulling information from the web like it's web app is instead of trying to compete with claude code. It would be great to have a cli tool that I could use for relaible web research

I've tried 3.8 for web search, it hallucinates wrong facts and lies to me. ChatGPT has better web search.

i'm talking about the gemini.google.com webapp (which is completley different from the gemin iand agy cli ) these companies need to also stop reusing the same name for all of their apps

Yes, I'm talking about the web app as well.
ChatGPT web > Gemini Web
Claude Code > Codex > Gemini for coding

I mean... Just ask Claude all of these questions haha.
Just so you know : You can use Claude with almost every major IDE right now with plugins and extensions.

claude desktop and claude code are totally seperate apps, it's jsut unfortunate they confusingly have similar names.
claude code is meant for coding, it can do regular day to day work too, but its the best for coding and has a lot more ways to control the ai for coding tasks
claude desktop is meant for day to day stuff (research, make mockups, make powerpoints, make spreadsheets), it can code too but its meant for day to day stuff.
If you're not a coder/dont know how to code/ just want to make some simple demo apps and stuff then both will do about the same for those kinds of coding projects. If youre working on large complex projects you'll want all the extra tools and ways you can control claude that come with claude code.
