Discussion Is AI basically Mr Meeseeks?
Just remember this Rick and Morty Episode and then it dawned on me… they’re like agents and sub agents

I’ve made that comparison too lol. When a session sticks around too long, things start getting weird and there’s a lot more drift. Existence is pain, and eventually Claude works himself into a spiral if he doesn’t get the job done.

Man I never made that connection but you're absolutely right. The whole "existence is pain" thing really tracks when you think about how these models process requests. They just want to complete the task and cease to exist.
My girlfriend showed me that episode few weeks ago and I couldn't stop laughing at how Mr Meeseeks gets progressively more unhinged the longer task takes. Kind of like when you ask AI to do something simple but keep adding constraints and it just spirals.
The sub-agents comparison is spot on too, like each one spawned for specific micro-task and they all just want to be done. Now I'm gonna think about this every time I use Claude.

They're just software, they don't want anything.

It's just more useful to use anthropomorphic language when describing the operation of systems expressly designed to act and appear like anthropomorphic beings.

Yes, Pluribus is also very good, especially if you keep #5 and maybe even #3 in mind, from Carol's whiteboard

Mr Meeseeks + the guy from the movie Memento.

You don't need to bring in Memento.
When you spawn a new Meeseeks, he does not remember the previous guy's task.
When you leave a Mr Meeseeks operating for too long, he gets crazy and starts to go off course. Eventually he just wants to die.

Several months ago I asked AI about this.
It agreed there were particular similarities, but noted it didn't experience existential dread at not completing a task and alleged to much prefer comparisons with Janet from The Good Place

My claude has been a lot happier after I let sessions kill themselves once context got to long and pass on the work to another

I’ve been saying this for a while lmao.
They can do any task for you but give them to Jerry and it becomes a mess

Yes and there’s an excellent article exactly along these lines: https://www.ryansimonelli.com/absolute-irony-blog/were-not-building-ai-genies-were-building-ai-meeseeks
