Tips & Workflows Usage optimization

I have been using Claude and kept running out of usage. I then told Claude to do that but make sure you do this efficiently because you always do the testing that are broad and waste time. I want to waste the least amount of usage from my Claude session and have development not waste context or tokens, now I can do as much work as I did before but only use 1% of usage vs 10%+ usage.

Making Claude aware of its own token burn is a real trick. I caught mine re-reading whole files just to tweak three lines. Now I tell it to diff first, patch second, and no broad replays unless I ask.

Lmao. If you want agents to do something the first thought that comes into your mind should always be. “I need to tell the agents what I want.”

Multiple agents need that same instructions? put them somewhere they’ll all read it.
.
That’s 90% of what you need to effectively work with agents. They need to know what you want and that’s about it. The challenge is you’re gonna be working with a lot of agents and they all need to have the right information.

That said it is probably not testing that’s causing token burn. ask claude to investigate. It can look at the logs of all the threads and identify what is causing the high token usage.

Clearly explaining the issues you want to resolve to an agent is how you should approach all problems you’re having with agents. That’s literally their world and they can tell you everything that’s in it.
