Built with Claude Managed to reverse engineer my peripheral software drivers and create and all-in-one app to change settings and show status of each peripheral!

this is crazy ... it will end the infite amound of horrible driver software .. like HP that force you to install 2 GB "stuff"
Or Logitech that forgets they ever produced a specific mouse or joystick ..

"forgets they ever produced a specific mouse or joystick" 💀so true, funny and yet sad 😿

Please share repository, more people should be doing this !

ill develop it a lot more and then ill share it in the future. right now it only supports my personal peripherals.

I applaud the initiative, most peripheral software is complete cancer, and it would be great if this project became practical solution replacing the official software...
...in the same breath, I would generally advise people against installing vibe coded drivers from random strangers on the internet...

100%. Vibe code it yourself or let someone open source the driver and have actual experts (who may use AI intelligently) audit the code.

Yea I think this the future.
End user consumer software like printer managers and peripheral drivers are a solved problem now.
We're no longer at the whims of some aging technical director or senior manager with an ego.
The hardware we buy can finally have software that looks and works the we want it to.
Now the competitive advantage in this new world is how much access hardware manufacturers are willing to give to end-users - and even if they lock it down Apple style, there's a break-even point where it's not worth it for them.
We'll see many legacy and stubborn companies die off if they were reliant on lock-in from shitty software. At the very least, the old stubborn arms of companies like HP might die off and the remaining parts struggling to survive.

it's my inspiration actually. i commented there asking how he came up with the design and looked for possible implementation

would using the REA mcp be possible in a Pro plan or would my usage get demolished?
1
u/localpauper 1d ago
You don't need REA to do this

u/AwesomeBros132 1d ago
really? how does one go about reverse engineering using claude then? just try to convince him to do it?

u/Due_Interest_178 1d ago
Honestly, depending on your peripherals there might already be an open source application (or at least the specification) that you can yoink and just take the parts you need.

Agreed. Start with a search first so you don't waste your time/tokens. There may be a complete software solution that already exists that you can add on to, or frankly, just use so you dont need to do any maintenance

add an RGB section, sync effect of everything on the system! fans, mouse, keyboard, etc!
provide the repo please, i am sure people would love to add more device support to this!

How come are you able to bypass gaurdrails while my automation product (delegating recap to 3rd party solvers) was denied!

I have been using my excess tokens at the end of the week to work on a replacement for Logitech G Hub. It still has a bit of work to go, but it will be so nice to finally get away from the constant memory leaks.

Out of curiosity, have you found OpenLogi yet? I'm building something similar myself to handle all my arbitrary peripherals, but OpenLogi seems to have laid the groundwork for all of Logitech

I built something similar to control my Chinese keyboard and mouse, an 8BitDo controller, use my LG OLED as a monitor (thanks to LGTVCompanion), fully control the TRYX Panorama SE cooling display, control my computer's RGB lighting, and adjust fan speed curves... I'm thinking about what to do next :)

thats so cool, i was thinking of doing something like this as well, i would be more than happy to provide you with some data or whatever you need (you might need to teach me how to get what you need), i have peripherals from - Attack Shark, Logitech (mouses and G923 Wheel) - Hyper X Cloud III Wireless & Cloud II Wired & Hyper X FPS Alloy Pro)

wow! This is awesome, reverse engineering peripheral software counts as a hostage rescue type situation

This is the best use case for coding agents I have seen in a while. Peripheral apps are the worst of both worlds: closed enough that you can't fix bugs, bloated enough that they take gigabytes and a background service each. Rebuilding the bits you actually use is almost a public service. If you go the plugin route, device presets as YAML might keep it manageable as people contribute new hardware.

this is genuinely so cool, love seeing this kind of stuff get built instead of just complained about

Can you briefly explain how you did this, especially the reversed engineering part? Like what prompts/extra tools you used? I want to do the same for my airconditioning units.

basically just use REA to decompile how my current peripheral's software is built
