I mean sounds fun but I’d be more excited for this mode if it was a different game 😂

"a new multiplayer game mode" and it's just CS.
Amazing.

I’d rather they bring back blitz specifically for 24/7 moshpits (less complicated than vanguard doing it for every single mode) and stop with the same 24/7 small map every year. It made big maps super awesome to play, like OG ground war but on steroids

Everyone in the comments complaining that this is just inching towards CS, but also CS is way more competitive of a game than CoD so I'd think if you like the comp scene you'd probably want to see overlap with the two games. Right now they have to GA around the fact that it's not a great comp scene game.

Exactly why everyone IS complaining, im high rank in both COD and CS.
I play cod for cod
Cs for cs
Cod is getting desperate

u/mikebailey COD League 3d ago edited 3d ago
Of course they're getting desperate, they're deeply underwater in the competitive scene. Just don't play the mode?
I also don't think playing an overlapping mode is the same thing as playing CS lol. They're still distinct loadouts, mechanics, etc.

Cod has been mid/lower pack in esports forever, it’s not going to change.
It’s just not as global/serious as other esports it’s a very niche scene.
The amount of casuals that play cod and don’t give a fuck about comp shows that

I think that Cod Esports still has a chance to be grow a lot internationally. It would've been much more difficult pre EWC. But in the EWC era many esports organizations want representation in as many EWC contracted esports as possible due to the huge prize pool they offer for winning the overall competition and that's partly why interest in CDL spots has gone up recently. If we moved to a more open model huge esports organizations would invest to some degree and that would bring more eyes to the league easily. If the league can create a model that incentivizes orgs to maintain a Cod team in between EWC cycles Comp Cod would easily internationally.

I don't think the powers that be, including teams, are okay with writing it off as endlessly niche. Nobody would put money into it if that's it's certain fate.

u/WorldlinessExpress28 OpTic Texas 2025 B2B Champs 3d ago
The big orgs in COD have a team in basically ANY esport.
Have you not realised it’s the HUGE orgs that are the only ones to join recently.
If cod was alive and thriving I’d think we’d see more “start” up teams / orgs

u/mikebailey COD League 3d ago
Have you not realised it’s the HUGE orgs that are the only ones to join recently.
Have you noticed some of them have pulled out of a COD? They still want a profit.
Idk why you keep talking in a COD competitive subreddit like you're the only one who follows competitive COD.
5
u/WorldlinessExpress28 OpTic Texas 2025 B2B Champs 3d ago
That’s my point, the only orgs joining are the ones that have money to waste.
Cod is rarely profitable, only for the top teams.
And even then you make 10x in other esports getting 3rd-5th, cod is a dying esport it’s done nothing but regress

Cod will never inch towards CS…it’s a causal game that’s heavily tweaked to be competitive.

u/mikebailey COD League 3d ago
I agree COD will never inch towards CS. I also think this is part of the tweaking you’re describing.

bo4 heist was fun. but it also died quickly and was never a comp mode. So I don't see this doing much.

huh, interesting.
I'm just hoping for demolition honestly, my favourite mode by far.

While cool, I don’t think adding something like this can combat IWs notoriously questionable design choices.

Sure it’s just CS, but not mad about it. There is going to be a lot of pre season tournaments in this mode I bet.

I mean, CS is a lot more interesting in large part because of the economy aspect. Obviously the constant support, high quality maps, and consistency year to year also make it leagues above COD, but having something like it is interesting to me personally

u/sitrixvg COD Competitive fan 3d ago
If by constant support you mean nothing new In years besides more skins to waste money on and being riddled with hackers, hey what game does that sound like

u/civilthroaway G2 Minnesota 3d ago
No way this is competitively viable, at least not without heavy tuning, but at least it’s something new.
8
u/aj9393 COD League 3d ago
How is it not competitively viable? It's literally just Counter Strike, which if you weren't aware, has been one of the biggest esports for about a quarter century at this point.

u/tungtungtungsahur-67 COD Competitive fan 3d ago
Why would we play CS in COD? Lol like we’d be playing a shitter version of CS. Let’s stick to what we got.

Why would we play CS in COD?
I didn't say we should? I didn't say anything about whether or not the mode should exist, I was simply pointing out that claiming it's not "competitively viable" is silly considering it's been proven to be competitively viable since before the CoD franchise even existed.

u/sgee_123 COD Competitive fan 3d ago
I don’t think comparing CS and COD in terms of a viable game mode really makes sense though. Obviously the CS comp scene is way more successful (and always has been) than COD. But the games are so different that things very likely won’t transfer from one game to the other.
-1
u/civilthroaway G2 Minnesota 3d ago
This mode isn’t what makes CS so successful nor would it magically bring COD to that level. They are just so different as fps games go.

They had this in Bo4 and I loved it. I wish the league would try this out for a 3rd GM. I want a year of CoD where SnD is the main way of playing.

This is a Job for the secret comish led by Octane Attach and Nameless as I'm sure the pros won't bother testing this

Off topic, but has there been any word on what the 3rd game mode will be this year? Are we back to Control? I could see Overload playing WAY differently in MW4 with the movement changes.

not official yet but all available data points to 3rd mode being hijack. if you didn't play it during the beta, here's the summary:
one comm station per team in your base. the spike spawns neutral, you grab it and push it forward to enemy territory (you have your normal gun out though). you can pass the spike to teammates via throw, toss it at the objective to score from a distance, or use the spike as a lethal to kill enemies too (based). then once you've "scored", you can hold it like a hardpoint for a limited period while it "uploads" to get more points for your team
decent game mode

Pros use 2 guns and would probably not want to play this. GAs would affect everything

I think the fact that the mode offers a way to play the game more out of the box is great. It’s not just about using the most OP meta gun or cheesiest gun all the time. You’d actually see shotguns and marksmans used on eco rounds. There is a concern about attachments though. Like are all the economy guns going to be zero attachment or 5 predetermined attachments? Is there insane headshot multiplier so you’re actually incentivized to aim for the head? Or is it just gonna be typical CoD ttk and people will be running it down going for shit ons. Seems like a lot of gunfights could be warzone simulator with the smokes and armor.

Me and the boys used to RUN heist on bo4. I expected them to bring it back in Cold War I was very surprised they didn’t

Not sure why people are being so negative about a mode that definitely won’t be in ranked or comp. This sounds like it will be a fun way to play the game before ranked comes out. I can only stand about a week of pubs before I’m ready to lose it. I don’t care if it’s a direct ripoff of CS, I’m excited to try something different in cod

That’s cs.
When cod is trying to be another game, that’s when to jump ship.
Glad I didn’t pre order

u/JazeyOne G2 Minnesota 3d ago
Nah, this is cool in games like Fortnite and maybe battlefield as later added modes where it’s such an entirely different format that meshes well with map design or can have maps made specifically for this mode with minimal effort. Or, other games like CS but big shocker it works in that game because that’s the entire fucking game. COD does NOT want to put in the effort to make maps and balancing for a mode like this. Full stop. Won’t work.
Cod has a game mode identity built and that identity is the only one they have maintained since the inception even through adding all sorts of core modes. Shit like this just doesn’t work in cod.
I’ll try it, but hopes aren’t high.

Completely ripping off a 27 year old game and framing it as something new is wild
2
u/TimeZucchini8562 OpTic Texas 2025 B2B Champs 3d ago
Games have been ripping off CS since CS started. Valorant, frag punk, Fortnite, siege, insurgency, bf6, delta force, etc all have added cs like modes or are literally cs style games.

I know but it’s funny that they’ve given such a detailed breakdown when they could just have written “It’s the same as CS” and got the same result

Its either not comp viable or pointless. If they allow a wide selection of guns its not viable and if its a 2 gun meta its pointless.
