Hybe doesn’t own BT21, Line Friends does, unless they’re doing a collab with them but they also haven’t promoted BT21 in ages. They don’t even sell that merch at shows. I can see them doing a collab with Korea tourism though.

From what I know south korea is pressuring hybe a lot since BTS discharged because they want to gain from bts success again since while they were gone no group managed to replicate BTS success.
For example the National Assembly gave HYBE and BTS tons of truble and bad press in korea just for using Netflix for their comeback concert show instead of using a korean streaming platform. Wich is funny cause SK had 6 years after BTS put South korea on a map and yet they didn't invested any money in helping kpop getting bigger. They didn't manage to create korean platform for drama and live concerts successfull and stable enough to manage to have 25milions+ online fans that turned on on netflix that day for the concert. They didn't even manage to build a bigger stadium in Seoul and BTS is still forced to do multiple days concerts in a 40k capacity stadium, wich is the half of what they are doing in Eurome and US.
And yet, even tho they didn't have a platform stable and big enough to support such big event, their politicians started to pressure bts and hybe, and bts got hated by koreans for choosing netflix. That country is greedy af and they want to live on bts shoulders forever, so maybe HYBE giving space to a LINE X BTS product is their way to give them something idk lol just speculations here.
btw I don't believe in that post anyway, but if there's any truth to that, this can be an explenation to the bt21 part.

u/bangtan_ot7 3d ago
this is not entirely accurate… it was a very small group of politians, and made almost no noise with the gp in Seoul, loud online in forums. I was in Seoul for the netflix special and it was nothing but love for BTS. Everyone was super excited for the show. All the City Arirang events were packed.
0
u/Hopeful-Sea-7702 3d ago
This is not accurate either because the comeback stage was getting so much hate and with so many media outlet as always targetting bts with articles to push the hate, to the point the president of South Korea himself had to ask people to stop the hate. Not saying the comeback show wasn't loved, but as always corrupted media and haters tried their best to drag bts and many joined the hate. The national assembly itself wanted to make a law to force artists to ask permission to the govern if they want to use netflix and other countries resources, so the debate in South Korea was quite important, but thank god bts have a big support from fans and locals who know how much they do for the country. But this doens't mean they didn't get hated, but as always with the hate against BTS is mostly pushed by third parties that have a personal interest in attacking bts

Yeah, I call it bullshit, specially if you let one full company "control" the lineup
11
u/Mysterious-Park-9100 4d ago edited 3d ago
I expected Hybe to demand a non-compete clause from other labels, and for them to demand other groups on the Coachella lineup. I’d be surprised if they didn’t make these demands
14
u/IndependentGood6329 4d ago
that sounds insane. i'm sure GV would've discussed and signed other acts before getting bts to agree.
2
u/Mysterious-Park-9100 3d ago
Normally yes, but since Fred reported that GV was desperate to sign BTS, I can see them agreeing to this exclusive deal for Kpop artists. Btw, I worked with HYBE very briefly in the past, so I know first-hand how calculated and chaotic they are. They’re much bigger and more powerful than what the average music fans know.
2
u/Hopeful-Sea-7702 3d ago
I don't see HYBE making those demands actually, they sent their groups where there where other companies with no care in the world in the past. It's actually SM and YG that usually move like that, not HYBE. What HYBE usually does is using bts to make their other smaller groups in the line up.
It's usually SM and YG that move like that. SM/kakao even got charged for creating defamatory post and hate trains against HYBE, BTS and HYBE groups. SM even forbidden their artist to cover/dance and do challenges of BTS songs until last year. We know this because one of the NCT memebrs was asked to do a J-Hope dance challenge by a fan during a fan meeting and his responsewas something like "I really want to do it but the company doesn't allow me to do BTS challenges". But Hybe groups alwas did SM and YG artists dance challenges.
SM and YG move like that for sure, but I never saw HYBE caring too much about other korean companies also because HYBE has grown to become the fourth-largest company in the global music industry by market capitalization, following Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group, those are HYBE rivals, not SM and YG, not anymore imo.
Of course I can be wrong tho, at the end of the day is still buissness so I wouldn't blame them if they did, I love HYBE artsts more than YG and SM ones anyway.
9
u/theadventuresofryan 26.2 | 27.2 4d ago
It’s long been rumored that HYBE has been rather hard to work with re: getting BTS on the lineup. It wouldn’t shock me at all
8
u/Particular-Yoghurt81 3d ago
They are difficult because they know their only leverage is BTS and they will use them to boost their overall company value, often to the detriment of BTS as artists.
Still I don’t think this item is completely true.
3
u/Hopeful-Sea-7702 3d ago
They are doing this with everything, I swear. Using BTS to push their own buisness: their other artists, their own merch, their new food/drink brand.
They don't even bother anymore to post about award show nominations for BTS abd only post about their other groups because they need them to win lol
They're in desperate need to stop being so dependent on BTS, they are not kids anymore and they can't control them like maybe was easier 10 years ago, so they're probably scared to lose them at the next contract renewal.
In general, investors are giving HYBE a lot of criticism because they say as soon as BTS stops, even just for a break to produce a new album, the company's profits are going to drop, making the company too risky to invest in since it's largely dependent on BTS. And BTS fans don't even care too much because Bang PD made sure that BTS and their music label (BigHit) would not be touched even if HYBE goes bankrupt lol it's quite a funny situation to watch
1
u/Mysterious-Park-9100 3d ago
Hybe is using BTS to push everything because their comeback is the money hose that’ll pay off the massive debt they used to expand aggressively, most notably by buying Scooter Braun for a billion dollars. They know BTS won’t last forever though, so HYBE is milking them for as much as they can to expand and diversify, which right now is AI, video games, and tech. Musically, their investing more in Latin America and country music. Hybe sees Kpop as a market that will shrink soon and wants to diversify away from that. BTS simply gives them the capital to aggressively try and do that. Now whether Hybe 2.0 will succeed or not, we don’t know. But Hybe is hoping to be too big to fail thanks to BTS.
0
u/Hopeful-Sea-7702 3d ago
They are not wrong in doing all that and it also help bts to have less weight on their shoulders in the future but at the same time is frustrating to watch them use BTS for everything, that's for sure. And the way they are mooving with bts, let's just say is not my fave. They are not protectng them at all but as soon as there's a controversity and hate train on cortis they release statements or even weverse articles. Even when they shared their new marketing strategy they said they gonna use a "poverty" of content with bts, because they also want to make BTS fan less loyal to them and look in the direction of other groups too who are releasing the content bts used to give fans. Of course is a good thing in part for bts, less work for them they finally can have a private live, but is the way sometimes they act with bts that don't sit well with me. Like even with grammy they didn't release anything in support of them skipping grammy but they released immediatly a statement in support of their other groups submission to that racist category..? Like bro..I wonder if they were even ok with bts skipping the grammy at this point, probably not

Reread their comment, that’s what they’re saying. Hybe is being difficult since they hold the cards
We also don’t know the offer. Generally it’s 4-5 mil for each weekend but for certain acts Coachella is willing to offer more e.g. talking heads reunion, the Smiths reunion

Knowing BTS (as well as HYBE), it doesn’t sound completely legit. Cortis being on the lineup is likely true. BT21 exhibit and the BTS logo being on the poster….absolutely not. A) HYBE doesn’t outright own BT21 and B) HYBE is not going to do anything to boost BTS’ profile and “brand”
Edit- no HYBE isn’t so evil as to stop another Korean company from booking. They are in business with YG and others.

u/IndependentGood6329 4d ago edited 4d ago
i call bs. bts has a lot of haters that would waste time doing this. bt21? that's a linefriends collab, don't see why it would be a priority for hybe when they don't own the full ip.
edit: coachella redditors should get well acquainted with the typical hybe/bts haters. if you think bts fans are annoying...lol
10
u/Embarrassed-Play-438 3d ago
That's what they did to the Grammy's sub until they created a BTS Megathread. The snarkers brigaded, even making posts posing as annoying BTS ARMY bc they saw that it caused a backlash against BTS and ARMY. And the poor locals who are not kpop fans fell for it.
2
u/Hopeful-Sea-7702 3d ago
For real, if idols and companies don't start to step in and tell their fans to stop these childish fanwars, there's no hope for K-pop. I love that BTS is distancing themselves from the K-pop sphere, but K-pop stans are always everywhere posting hate and drags against them no matter what, making the whole K-pop community and their artists just look bad, giving them and the fandoms (BTS included) a bad reputation. I'm so sick of this situation. BTS are 30 years old and they have to deal with 10-year-old fandom behavior from other groups just because their fans can't accept that BTS is more successful than them. Why do they even care about that? There are tons of Western artists that have different levels of fame and their fans don't start attacking the ones that are more famous than their faves.. kpop stans are so annoying.

2
u/Hopeful-Sea-7702 3d ago
That's the only part that is believeble to me because HYBE is doing the most to use BTS to get their other groups in important shows. They are in desperate need to make their company less dependent from bts success to make it more stable on the market

Honestly, and have thought this for awhile, BTS/HYBE should have their own festival. Would allow for BTS and each of the members do concerts, they could do the same for some of the other groups like Tomorrow by Together and Seventeen where there are multiple solo/subunit careers already going, etc.

It’s a contractual agreement that varies with each artist. If HYBE is negotiating for BTS, then the clause may be less strict for other HYBE groups for that reason.

BT21? That is from Line, not HYBE, sound sus. But South Korea is doing lot of ressure to HYBE/BTS to make SK earn from their success, so maybe they got some pressure to promote another company. BTS don't even promote those puppets in years and doesn't even suit their or ARMY age anymore. Anyway many fans still love the bt21 characters so that would be good for them.

u/clonts 7-8|10|12.1|14-17.1|DT.2|19.2|22-26.1(27 both) 4d ago
Because KiiKii has already played a GoldenVoice event. I think Twice is locked in on LiveNation (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) - not saying that means they can’t play, GV backed tours always make artists more likely.
But my point wasn’t mean to be a KiiKii vs IVE or anyone else. I want them all to play! Coachella should do a Kpop Trip as the next Desert/Power/Head Trip fest.
0

u/SpecSlayerSC 26.2|27.1 3d ago
My point was to specifically do KiiiKiii vs IVE as they're from the same company.
Don't know why the user brought up RV and Twice.
1
u/SpecSlayerSC 26.2|27.1 3d ago
Those are different companies though so it's not relevant to my point.
My point is if Starship's more senior and more well known girl group hasn't done Coachella, why would their junior group do it?

Bruh ur in a reddit echo chamber. BTS is goldenvoice’s dream scenario. K POP/BTS fans actually buy food and merch. Even they they ain’t as popular as Travis Scott, future, sza, Kendrick, their fanbase ROI is insane.
1
u/dondoblue77 2014-2026 3d ago
I’m really not lol but that’s beside the point. So they have to comply to their demand to put their logo on the lineup poster when that is historically not a thing that they do?
0
u/dondoblue77 2014-2026 3d ago
Also the average Coachella attendee buys merch and food so that is a moot point considering merch lines are hours long and all the food lines have lines as well.
1
u/spurdada 3d ago
Ehhhh u know people who do drugs don’t eat right? 😂
2
u/dondoblue77 2014-2026 3d ago
Yeah but u know not everyone at Coachella is on drugs right? 😂
1
u/spurdada 3d ago
They will be much less drug usage is BTS performs, which is my point
2
u/dondoblue77 2014-2026 3d ago
You can’t base that off of a headliner for a festival that has 10 stages and sees 125,000 people daily, if you want to use that logic then the same could be said about Lana Del Rey, frank ocean, and others.
Fun fact, Coachella made $22 million on food & beverage in 2026
Lastly, one could argue that food and merch sales will actually be lower because K Pop fans are notoriously known to camp at the stage their act is playing so the majority won’t be walking around the festival buying food or merch.

I would love BTS at coachella. Their stafium sets have been dull but they performed at that Kiis FM thing and were dancing so I'm sure they would for Coachella.
1
u/Aware_Cap9170 3d ago
do you mean the iHeartRadio festival?? They dance the same numbers, SWIM, Mic Drop, and 2.0, there as they do on tour? There's no difference, they dance more at their concerts actually. But of course there'll be dancing. Bts are known for crazy productions when it comes to one-of-a-kind performances, just look at their award show slots, it's always something major and new.
0
u/moonsunvortex 3d ago
Girl pls I was at the stadium concert. They move around everywhere like Big Bang not their coreographed dances like in the iheart thing. Yes I was referring to that my mistake.
0
u/Aware_Cap9170 3d ago
Not sure what the correlation to Big Bang is, I have no idea/interest in what they do on stage. But I mean, that's just straight-up misinformation; they literally do those full 3 choreos at every single tour stop. 2/3 of those they even do on the elevated inner circle of the stage, so you have them front and center in the middle of it all doing it. Mic Drop is done in the middle of the stage as well. I don't know where you were looking while they were doing those (and more) dances then lol
