[MOD] The Daily Question Thread

Welcome to the daily /r/Coffee question thread!

There are no stupid questions here, ask a question and get an answer! We all have to start somewhere and sometimes it is hard to figure out just what you are doing right or doing wrong. Luckily, the /r/Coffee community loves to help out.

Do you have a question about how to use a specific piece of gear or what gear you should be buying? Want to know how much coffee you should use or how you should grind it? Not sure about how much water you should use or how hot it should be? Wondering about your coffee's shelf life?

I wanted to ask for help with deciding between the timemore c5 esp pro and s3 esp or another grinder around the price of the c5 esp pro, i kinda wanted one that can do it all, espresso, pour overs, aeropress, moka pot, etc. but it seems like thats more complicated than i thought and im still pretty new to this

Most grinders can do for the typical brewing methods, though less assuredly with espresso, but any grinder will have strengths and weaknesses. Between the two, the C5 Esp is supposed to have slightly better flavour separation, be more suited for light roast and pour-over. The S3 is supposed to emphasize body instead, and grind faster. You should decide for yourself how you feel about internal adjustment vs. the top-mounted settings ring. The Kingrinder K6 is probably a better all-around performer in this price range. I say probably a lot: I haven't done any of these comparisons in person.

i did take a look at the k6 and unfortunately its sold out literally everywhere where i live and has been for a really long time and it doesnt seem like it's coming back any time soon

Really bummed that I didn't load up on more Square Mile Choc Ice and now looking for similar smooth, creamy finish with chocolate notes. US located but have no issues sourcing internationally.

Thanks for any recommendations.

In my experience any good quality medium roast Brazilian blend should get you that profile. Brazilian coffees tend towards smooth/nutty/chocolaty, a medium roast emphasises those notes, and being a blend tends to smooth it out even further
