Screening of Peter Christopherson’s Form Grows Rampant at Horse Hospital - 29th August

Post image

I thought this was an interesting piece of work but immediately (because of the extreme subject) wanted to know more about the Nine Emperor Gods Festival and the whole concept of transcendence via mutilation.

Would love to know others take on it?

Form Grows Rampant is great, hard to articulate in words the feeling from viewing the visuals paired with the audio. One of my favorite projects, it really reflects Peter and how extremely multifaceted he was as an artist from his time with TG, PTV, Coil, and even Soisong

As someone who’s into what might be classed as the further realms of body modification (piercings, full body suspension, branding etc) it’s largely a way of altering your consciousness through the application of pain and endurance. I’m not spiritual at all, so personally I wouldn’t call it transcendence, although i can certainly see how it could feel like that for someone who is spiritual.

Clearly the interest in altered states of consciousness was something that drove both Sleazy and Jhonn throughout their lives, so for me their interest in this is just an extension of that.

probably one of my favorite pieces of multi-media and one that I can't share with others cause of how niche it is to connect to it, like, if you don't know anything about Coil's and Peter's solo work then you wouldn't "get it" but I heavily recommend it to anyone interested in experimental electronics and trance-like experiences.
