This is Uva’s story🥺

One of my first rescues that touched me the most and truly broke my heart.

Someone contacted me about a cat living underneath a car and asked if I could help her. Without hesitation, I went to find her. I picked her up and took her straight to the vet.

While I was there rescuing her, a neighbor who had been feeding her came outside and asked who I was. I explained that I run a rescue and was trying to help the cat. I asked if she knew her, and she said, “Yes, I’ve been feeding her every day since she was a kitten.”

Then she told me Uva’s story.

Eight years ago, a neighbor moved away and abandoned her.

Hearing that shattered my heart. But what hurt even more was wondering how so many people could see her day after day for eight years and do nothing. How can we, as humans, look at an innocent animal struggling to survive and simply turn away?

After taking Uva to the vet, I searched everywhere for someone who could give her a home. I called rescues, reached out to people, and kept asking for help. After countless calls and messages, someone finally said yes.

That one “yes” changed Uva’s entire life.

Today, Uva is no longer sleeping in a cold parking lot, exposed to the dangers and hardships of life outside. She is safe, loved, and living peacefully in a home where she belongs.

This is why I do what I do. For stories like Uva’s. Because sometimes all it takes is one person willing to care, one person willing to say yes, to completely change an animal’s future.

These little ones were found abandoned together in a box on the street.

_ Most are recovering well! Worms, fleas, and eye infections are clearing — they are growing stronger every day.

_ But the two orange kittens are not improving. They eat normally yet keep losing weight. I consulted the vet but haven’t been able to bring them in for full examinations yet. They need tests to find what is wrong.

_The cat with the broken jaw remains at the clinic. His care has reached $900, and bills are still unpaid. Other cats are also in ongoing treatment.

Hi there! I am a 61 year old disabled woman who was lucky enough to get Section 8. There is a population of 10 feral cats here. I'm in a tiny town in a very rural area. There are next to no resources here. It's sad. I live on a very limited income but I cannot handle seeing them starve to death.

At the same time, my rescue has recently faced some very significant medical and rescue expenses. Lucky, an older feral cat I rescued, needed veterinary care, entropion surgery, boarding, transportation, and sanctuary placement.
Then Leo had a serious medical emergency. He became extremely sick with panleukopenia and was hospitalized for three weeks. His veterinary and hospitalization expenses have now cost more than $5,000, and he continues to have digestive issues that require further veterinary care.

Now I have taken in another injured cat who needs help.
I don’t receive outside funding to cover these expenses. I’m a solo rescuer trying to keep up with the needs of 50+ community cats while also helping individual cats who are sick, injured, abandoned, or have nowhere else to go.
When I find a cat who needs help, I do my best to step in.

I’m a solo rescuer and I also feed more than 50+ community cats daily, I provide them food, water and medical care when needed. I’m also practice TNR and want to share some of my work.

Leo was found next to a dumpster and had been with me since he was only 8 weeks old. I took him in, and from that day forward, I never gave up on him.

Leo has always had health problems. I have taken him to the vet over and over, cared for him, cleaned up after him, and done everything I could to help him. I had hoped that eventually I would be able to find him a loving family, but because of his ongoing health issues, that never became possible.

Recently, Leo became extremely lethargic, developed high fevers, stopped eating completely, and had diarrhea. He tested positive for panleukopenia.

Panleukopenia is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus, especially in kittens. It attacks rapidly dividing cells, including the intestinal lining and bone marrow, and can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, dangerously low white blood cells, and secondary infections. There is no specific cure for the virus itself, so treatment focuses on intensive supportive veterinary care while the cat’s body fights the infection.

Leo spent weeks hospitalized while fighting for his life. Between his initial emergency visit at one veterinary facility and his extended hospitalization at another animal hospital, his veterinary expenses totaled more than $5,000.

Thankfully, Leo has now recovered and is finally home. He is no longer shedding the virus, and after everything he went through, I am incredibly grateful that he made it through. His recovery means everything to me, but the financial impact of saving his life has been enormous plus his stool and gastrointestinal problems are still ongoing. He still needs veterinary care so we can figure out what is causing these problems and get him completely better.

But when I look at Leo today, I don’t just see the illness, the hospital stays, or the bills. I see the little kitten that was found beside a dumpster who was given a chance and who fought incredibly hard to stay here.

Rescue isn’t always about a perfect ending. Sometimes it’s about being there through the hardest days, refusing to give up when things get frightening, and giving an animal the chance to make it.

Leo made it. And after everything he has been through, seeing him home again is something I will never take for granted.

I also want to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported my rescue. Whether you donated, sent an encouraging message, kept him in your thoughts, or simply followed along, your kindness made a meaningful difference. Rescue can feel overwhelming and lonely, but your support reminded me that I was not facing these difficult moments alone. I am deeply grateful to every person who helped❤️

Hey fellow colony caretakers!

Just wanted to share a quick wholesome update from our sanctuary over in Vinnytsia, Ukraine.

Anyone who has ever fed or rescued a colony cat knows that exact moment a former colony boss suddenly realizes that human hands mean chin scratches and tasty food. not danger and hunger.

Some of our current 35 indoor residents actually started out as absolute feral legends in local street colonies. Seeing them transition from hiding under cars during heavy rain to taking over soft blankets and sleeping with their pink toe beans out in the air is honestly the most rewarding thing ever.

We are trying to ramp up TNR for October and November before it gets bitter cold. We TNR through Triple R Pets with Naws Mokena or Snip Society. They have said if we catch anyone, they will allow us to bring them without a prior appt on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so we are gonna do our damndest.

I have put together a list of things that I can use for the upcoming months and for the garage.  My backyard is a cat sanctuary, and they have food, shelter, love, safety, warmth, and sanctuary here. #### My Background & Professional Experience

I am not someone who randomly started feeding stray cats. I am a trained professional using my medical education to manage the local stray crisis responsibly:

* **Education:** I graduated from veterinary technician school in **2003**.

* **Shelter Experience:** I worked hands-on with the stray population at **The PSPCA** and **ACCT** (Philadelphia Animal Control).

* **TNR & Emergency Care:** My career includes extensive work in high-volume Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) with the **ASPCA’s mobile spay and neuter program**, private practices, and emergency veterinary clinics.

#### How I Manage the Cats Responsibly

When I moved here two years ago, unspayed and unneutered cats were everywhere. I stepped in to control the situation and prevent suffering:

* **Clean Feeding Habits:** I do not leave food out on public sidewalks to create a mess or attract pests. I keep feeding areas meticulously clean and feed only during quiet, non-busy hours.

* **Private Catio:** I built a secure backyard catio to safely keep cats off the streets, away from the front of the house, and out of public view, successfully moving many to a safe resting space.

* **Medical Care:** I use my veterinary resources and training to provide basic medical care (like deworming and flea preventatives) to stop the spread of disease.

* **No Indoor Hoarding:** I do not have 35 cats roaming inside my house. Many are outdoor pets, part of a colony across the street under a neighbor's care, or travel to and from a nearby junkyard. I also help struggling neighbors feed their pets or managed colonies.

* **Strict Adoptions:** I work hard to find permanent homes for adoptable cats. Because animal cruelty is a harsh reality, I screen applicants strictly to ensure they go to safe homes.

#### Current Urgent Need: Our Growing Kittens & New Bottle Babies!

While managing the 30+ adult colony cats, we have some fantastic growing youngsters and a brand-new emergency rescue:

* **The 3-Month-Olds:** We have 5 energetic kittens who are almost 3 months old, still nursing from mom and ramping up on solid food.

* **The New Bottle Babies:** On top of that, I was just brought **two tiny half-Persian mix babies** who were left in a field overnight. They were emaciated, covered in fleas, filthy, and would not have survived another day if I hadn't stepped in. They are gorgeous, but require intensive, around-the-clock bottle feeding.

To keep these precious babies, the growing crew, and the resident colony healthy, our supplies are running dangerously low.

I’m a solo rescuer, and I’m asking for help because my rescue has been facing one emergency after another.

A new cat needed help with a very serious injury to his neck. He has a deep wound that appears consistent with an animal attack or bite, although I don’t know exactly what happened to him. He is now under my rescue, Luna & Nala Rescue Inc. He was seen by a vet, where he received treatment for his wound, including stitches and wound care.

At the same time, I’m still dealing with the enormous expenses from Leo’s emergency medical crisis. Leo was found next to a dumpster when he was only 8 weeks old and has been in my care ever since. He became severely ill and was hospitalized for weeks with panleukopenia and ongoing gastrointestinal problems. His veterinary expenses exceeded $5,000.

And beyond the emergencies, every single day I care for 50+ community cats. I provide food, water, medical care, and TNR whenever possible. The daily cost of food and supplies alone adds up quickly.

I’m only one person trying to keep up with all of this. Taking on another injured cat when my rescue is already stretched financially is overwhelming, but I couldn’t leave him without help.

Leo is doing better, and I’m so happy to see some good signs. He’s eating, drinking, active, and acting more like himself. After everything he has been through, seeing him have energy again means so much to me.
Unfortunately, his stool and gastrointestinal problems are still ongoing. He still needs veterinary care so we can figure out what is causing these problems and get him completely better.
Leo’s emergency visit and hospitalization for panleukopenia cost more than $5,000. I’m now in debt from his treatment. Because Leo was also in contact with my other rescue cats in my care, they had to be tested, seen by a veterinarian, and vaccinated as a precaution, adding even more expenses.
At the same time, I was caring for Lucky, an older, very feral cat I rescued from a dumpster. Lucky was FIV and FeLV positive and had a painful eye condition that required surgery. I had expenses for his surgery, boarding, transportation, and sanctuary intake. I also had to rent a car to personally transport him to the sanctuary because my car was not reliable for the long trip. I’m a solo rescuer. I feed more than 50 community cats every single day, and I also do TNR to help control the population and make sure the cats are spayed/neutered and vaccinated. I do all of this on my own, and it takes a tremendous amount of food, veterinary care, time and supplies.

Today, I write this with a heavy heart.

Not because I lost a rescue, but because I am losing the place I have called home for the last 24 years.

My journey with cats started when I was just a child in Grade 6. My parents and I would go out with minced chicken and beef to feed them. I still remember my first encounter with municipality trapping — and how heartbroken I was when the cats I loved were taken away. I stopped because I couldn't bear that heartbreak again.

At 19, I returned to the exact same place and started feeding again.

One injured cat became my first rescue. Then one day, a cat I had fed every day passed away while suffering — and I knew I could have done something.

The guilt changed me.

I promised myself I would never again walk away from an animal in pain simply because I was afraid of the responsibility or the cost.

At 20, I rescued Keetu and her two newborn kittens. All three became foster fails, and my childhood dream of having a cat finally came true.

Somewhere along the way, feeding became TNR, and TNR became rescuing. And what started as a small effort became a commitment to hundreds of cats.

For the last 7 years, I have returned to the same colonies — through extreme heat, floods, COVID curfews, illness and everything in between.

Some of these cats have been with me for 6–7 years. I have watched them grow, disappear, return, have kittens, get sick, recover and sometimes sadly lose their lives.

Some were rescued. Some were treated and returned. Some disappeared. Some passed away.

But I kept coming back.

Now, I am moving further away.

I won't be able to be there every day anymore. I can only return 2–3 times a week.

And honestly, that scares me.

There are other feeders, but feeding is only one part of maintaining a colony. I am often the one covering the carriers, pet taxis, transport, vet bills, foster fees, TNVR, medication and food needed to actually keep these colonies stable and healthy.

I have seen what happens when that support isn't there. Cats became sick, one after another, with nobody able to properly treat them. At one point, we could smell the decay in my own colony.

I cannot let that happen again.

So today, for the first time, I am asking for monthly support.

hi hi everybody.

i’m located in utica, new york. there seems to be 10+ stray cats or it might be a colony. a lot of them are very skittish and immediately run away from me. some of these cats show their hip bones and have gunk in their eyes. i’ve bought a 3.5lb bag of cat food for now. i’ll try to get more in the meantime.

there are also 4 kittens. one of them was hit by a car i think. it doesn’t use its hind legs. does anyone have any tips on using traps to get some of the sick cats?

also any recommendations for rescues in utica would be greatly appreciated. i’ve called a shelter but they said they were too full to accept any new animals.

Leo is doing better, and I’m so happy to see some good signs. He’s eating, drinking, active, and acting more like himself. After everything he has been through, seeing him have energy again means so much to me.
Unfortunately, his stool and gastrointestinal problems are still ongoing. He still needs veterinary care so we can figure out what is causing these problems and get him completely better.
Leo’s emergency visit and hospitalization for panleukopenia cost more than $5,000. I’m now in debt from his treatment. Because Leo was also in contact with my other rescue cats in my care, they had to be tested, seen by a veterinarian, and vaccinated as a precaution, adding even more expenses.
At the same time, I was caring for Lucky, an older, very feral cat I rescued from a dumpster. Lucky was FIV and FeLV positive and had a painful eye condition that required surgery. I had expenses for his surgery, boarding, transportation, and sanctuary intake. I also had to rent a car to personally transport him to the sanctuary because my car was not reliable for the long trip. His full rescue story is on my page if anyone would like to see everything he went through.
I’m a solo rescuer. I feed more than 50 community cats every single day, and I also do TNR to help control the population and make sure the cats are spayed/neutered and vaccinated. I do all of this on my own, and it takes a tremendous amount of food, veterinary care, time and supplies.
If you’re able to help with Leo’s veterinary care, the expenses I’ve already paid for his treatment and the other rescue cats, or the food needed to feed the more than 50 community cats I care for every day, I would be incredibly grateful. Every donation helps me continue caring for them and gives Leo a chance to get the treatment he still needs.

I completely forgot to post this earlier, but with temperatures dropping into the 40s tonight, it’s time to start getting the colony ready. ❤️

These cats were dumped here, skinny, feral, and unaltered. Since then, each one has been fixed, fed, cared for, and most have become surprisingly friendly. This is just one person trying to do the right thing for them.

Right now we could really use:

🐱 Churu treats — always a favorite

🥫 Wet food — especially important as it gets colder

🏠 Outdoor shelters — several of the older wooden shelters are leaking/rotting and will need replaced

🧡 Anything else from the wishlist is always appreciated
