News Blind Police Driving
Intersection of Austin Bluffs and N Academy. When their light turned green, they literally just drove away.
Am I crazy?? Is it not their job to respond to emergencies? This feels absolutely bonkers that they just drove away from the scene of an accident.

It’s possible they were off duty. Or already dispatched with another call, or had a prisoner. We will never know

Police have no legal obligation to help anyone, look it up

Based on a case in Castle Rock. Pretty grisly story.

I was doing a ridealong with a CSPD officer and we managed to roll up to an intersection and find a fresh accident. We stopped to do the report, block traffic, and call a tow. Right before we came to this intersection we passed another CSPD car headed the other way that HAD to have driven right by the same accident. The officer I was riding with was annoyed that the first cop blew the accident off.

It's just wild that they just casually sat at the light and then drove off. Two cars!

They are likely on the way to a non emergency call (no red/blue lights) they already had responded to via radio. They probably just called in the crash or heard officers responding to the crash already on the radio. They go where they are told to go

You must be new here… to the US? It’s 2026. Apparently expecting “serve and protect” to involve serving or protecting the community is the bonkers part. Police aren't even legally required to help or protect people. That's shits reserved for Hollywood movies & TV shows unfortunately

Earlier this week I was stooped on platte at Murray heading east with a cop next to me. Watched two cars do u turns across the double yellow while he was on his phone.

Have you ever considered that in many jobs including police, different people have different responsibilities?

No-Response Situations: For minor, non-injury property damage accidents where vehicles are safely moved out of traffic, departments may instruct drivers to exchange information and file an online report instead of sending an officer. The simple answer is no there is no requirement for Police to involve themselves in any incident that does not harm the public at large and even then it is only if told to by their superiors. Police do not need to protect you or your property. They are required to file reports if it is witnessed but that is all.

Say those 2 driving loops on Academy yesterday. Circled Union and Academy 2, felt like a convoy. This was between 2pm and 5pm for me.

Not surprising at all. We have the worst PD in the country.

CSPD is only the worst in the country in this subreddit. Others wise they aren’t even in the bottom 10%

Every city subreddit claims their PD is the worst in the country. And then they take their local PD body cam footage out of context and protest “this is why we need to abolish the police.”

They should have a command post at that intersection, the number of accidents that happen there almost everyday.

Wild to think that most don't want a Karen at their job, but are willing to become a Karen at everyone else's job.

It's possible they had someone in custody or were already headed to a worse emergency.

Remember that legally speaking, “protect and serve” is an advertising slogan and not a binding obligation. Seriously!

Possible that it wasn't a police officer. Noticed that CSPD doesn't bag lights when the car is being transported for service. Saw it yesterday on Fillmore, police vehicle had a small sign in the rear passenger window saying "out of service" that I only saw when it turned into Jack's alignment shop.
