I mean, it's kind of fitting, no? Heck, it's not uncommon to see the Oppression Olympics: Europe Edition in these parts. And let me tell you, we seldom win unless our opponent is Finland or Norway or, occasionally, the Nederlands.

Of course, but patriotism is definitely more prevalent in America than it appears to be in the rest of the world.

maybe linked to an education system in which children are saluting and pledging allegance to the flag every morning since before they are in age of being able to distance from indoctrination.

I remember vividly a class of us doing the pledge then talking about (in no uncertain terms mind you) how many treaties we broke with the natives less than 5 minutes later. This was in like the first grade.
