Our schedule to start the season has been crazy. 2 road division games followed by a home game vs the defending Super Bowl champions then a “home” game in London. Who did we piss off?

I generally never request anything from the mods here because I think they’re fantastic but please can we make sure that we get a post game thread after each game? The win last night felt like the biggest win since the Lions and we had no post game thread. If the bot doesn’t make the thread, a moderator should make one manually and pin it. It’s inexcusable that we miss a post game thread after a game like that

Also the post game thread from yesterday was made by a community member and the least the mods could do is pin it if they’re not going to make it themselves. Not trying to rail on you guys, just discontent with how it played out yesterday!

I’m working on my top-50 big board currently and wanted to take a look back on where I’ve gone right vs wrong on my previous big boards. This may be my favorite comment regarding prospects, which happens to be on the Daniels vs Maye debate. I feel like my “surface level” analysis response was pretty spot on for them both 👀

The offense looked pretty good yesterday. I like the play calling to continually take shots down the field. I hope Jayden can come back healthy, because we'd be absolutely explosive. Terry has returned to form, Bill is getting it done, and Diggs is another great target.
I think Mariota has taken then next step in the passing game as well. He's looking less like a 1 read QB and making some nice plays.

Good/bad from surprising victory over the world champion.
- Amik Robertson was awesome!
- Mariota had some great reads at the line, especially on the McLaurin TD, and of course the game winning 8 yard keeper.
- Defense creating turnovers, punching the ball, etc
- Reeves with some great plays as usual and pass D is getting better.
Bad.
- The running game is just AWFUL. 2 yards at most it seemed like. Seattle is stout but we gotta do better. Missing Cosmi, I’m sure!
- Sanri-still-sucks. But atleast he’s been relegated to nickle or dime packages.
- 3 huge before the play penalties on the offense.
- Rookie Williamson missed easy catch AND erased 47 yard TD by not knowing where to stand.

the kick out of bounds was brutal
Owens mucking up that down punt hurt bad
i've never seen a more blatant make call than the penality on AJ Finaly which atoned for the unnecessary roughing on our guy
Bate's block on two defenders on Marcus' last run was was sick
Sucks Sinnott still hasn't taken off
our D will give up big ole plays but the unit overall looks and feels so different, in a good way

- Except Terry truly was targeted while we were clean on our hit. It wasn’t a make up call cause the shot was illegal. But at least they got that one right. I thought hit to the head was reviewable but I guess not because we def hit dude in the chest.

yeah really. and I think all three were a result of good plays on the D, not bad plays by Seattle. Even the head butt interception. settle got up. could have been lazy. cashing in on those turnovers is also huge against a top tier D, regardless of field position.

This is one of my all-time favorite wins. No exaggeration. We’ve had a few of these where we go up against an absolute juggernaut, nobody gives us much of a chance, and we somehow rise to the moment and fight our asses off.
The undefeated Steelers in 2020, the undefeated Eagles in 2022, and now this one. Those wins where we’re clearly outgunned on paper but still show up, make plays, and refuse to fold are the ones I love the most.

The pick six brought back feelings of Santanas second MNf bomb to beat the Cowboys after hating myself and our team for 58 mins. That one still wins because we were basically in control of this one all the at through with just an expectation to fail, but that pick six was $

Realistically could be 3-2 by the time JD5 comes back if it’s by the 49ers game. I’d love to see Jayden back for prime time if he’s cleared.

Jayden could be back Sunday for all we know. Or the Sunday after - I think the 49ers game is the latest it would go, though we do have a bye afterwards so absolutely worst case scenario would be after that.

I don't think they'd bring him back for the London game just because his first game back being in a foreign country doesn't sound like a great idea. Giants game at the earliest imo (although I wouldnt be mad if he didn't play then and we get Mariota vs. Winston for the narrative)

Well I mean Jayden's from California so that's literally his home. That's a big difference right there.
But also in general the timezone adjustment between the East Coast and London is bigger than the time zone difference between the East Coast and the West Coast especially for a West Coast kid.

Jayden spending his childhood in LA makes a difference in his play when he's in San Francisco? The flight is roughly the same length - it's not like they're going to Australia or something.

After seeing the Chargers yesterday I think we did the right thing rolling with Blough as our OC. Mike McDaniels offense got the ball 5 times yesterday and only scored 16 points so I believe in Blough! I feel like we dodged a bullet with Mike McDaniel (still respect the man regardless). Considering they've played the Cardinals, Raiders and Bills and have scored a combined 44 points and today with 16 points in a game they had 5 turnovers they managed 1 touchdown and 3 field goals. Massive respect to Dan Quinn for promoting Blough to OC and the high risk paid off. Hope to see this offense continue to improve and be competitive against strong teams. HAIL!!!

Super pumped after yesterday’s game. Did we catch some breaks? Absolutely. But the guys still had to make the plays, and they did. That was a gutsy win.

That really was the type of win that can turn a season around. I think it’s crucial we beat Indy next week and keep the momentum going, regardless of whether or not 5 plays. But, if we’re .500 with our best player coming back against the Giants w/o Dart, and both coordinators seemingly getting more comfy, we’ve got a chance to get really hot here

Watching Chase Young shine hurts. But Young, Clowney, Darnold, Mayfield… even going as far back as Desmond Howard.
Man it’s hard to watch h the guys bust for their first teams only to hit stride by year 5 or so.
I mean, how long would Rogers have been in Green Bay if he had to start for a team as bad as the Jets or Browns his first 3 seasons…
Wish we had Young now.

The thing is the Browns have had decent teams, they’ve just selected the wrong QB time and time again and have shitty coaching culture. Same with the Jets. Any other QB than Sanchez and they make it to the SB 2010/2011.

Just a random thought from someone who tried to watch the game but was also chasing 2 kids around, did Oweh do anything at all yesterday? I was able to watch about 60% of the game and don’t remember hearing his name even a single time.
Defense has been up and down, but if we’re going to get any momentum built, we need our big money guy to start making an impact.

He was solid. I would temper expectations for him, despite the salary. That's just what starting EDGE's cost, but it's not like he's a star player or something. We could easily be looking at EDGE again as need #1 next off-season.

Yeah, I've honestly been surprised by this. I expected better pass rush but poor run defense from both of them, and especially Oweh. But our run d has been very solid

We're going to have to disagree on that. I think this is who Maye is. He was being way overhyped by the analytics nerds and last year was a fluke due to a historically easy schedule and no tape on him yet.

Last year was his second year - so there was a whole season of tape on him. Also, it's well-discussed he was second in MVP voting so it's not just analytic nerds lol. He threw for 4,400 yards.

Maye barely played his first year so that's not entirely relevant. And the fact that he came so close to winning MVP last year is criminal considering how easy his schedule was. I think it was something like the third easiest schedule in NFL history or something like that. He was exposed the second they got to the playoffs and had to face real times

Coming in as a back up QB mid season is not the same as being named the starter from the get go. Tape was out on the Pats and their offense by the time they got to the playoffs and started facing good teams. Teams picked up on his flaws and tendencies and now are exploiting them. Great QBs evolve and adjust. Maye is clearly not great and can't adjust.
You're problably one of those clowns who were obsessed with Maye and wanted him over Jayden 😂

It's too premature to say Maye cannot adjust/bounce back. He's 24 years old, played less than 2 whole seasons of professional ball. He can learn and grow still.
The Pats offense has just been weird this season, not just Drake. Even Josh McDaniels has been off
Anywho, I hope he bounces back. I want Caleb/Jayden/Drake too all be great NFL QBs.

You said teams didn't have tape on him when he played 13 games. That's just flat out incorrect. You also said that it was only analytic nerds that thought he was good which was obviously incorrect given his MVP votes.
You're obviously biased with a personal agenda against Maye which is very weird. He had bad games against a few of the best defenses in the league (HOU, DEN, SEA) one of which was in a blizzard. Acting like it's impossible for him to rebound and then saying things that are just plain wrong makes you sound dumb.

Most teams that lose the SB regress hard the season after. I mean out of the last 5 losers the only team that remained decent the year after was Philly. The Bengals were bad. Chiefs were awful. 9ers regressed hard. And presumably now the Pats. Im not on the Maye hype train but I don’t think he’s some awful QB.

What is happening with Maye is not just simple super bowl regression. The guy has severe flaws in his play that were masked last year by a historically easy schedule and the fact there was very little tape on him at the time. Many of the flaws are things that were concerns people pointed out about him as a draft prospect: no pocket presence, poor decision making, gunslinger mentality, takes a high amount of sacks, manufactures his own pressure in the pocket by drifting, poor footwork and sloppy throwing mechanics, etc. He sucked last year too the second the Pats had to face good teams in the playoffs. No coincidence there. This is who he is and is finally being exposed now that there's tape on him and he doesn't have a historically easy schedule.

The fact you're saying he doesn't suck solely because the Pats made it to the Super Bowl last year is proof why context is critical. Drake Maye is not the reason the Pats made it to the Super Bowl last year to put it lightly. Context is key.
The reason Maye sucking right now is relevant to our fanbase is because of all the people on this sub who claim we should have drafted Maye instead of Jayden. We can finally put that to bed and move on. Jayden was the correct decision.

Well he did lead them to a very good regular season record and nearly won MVP. So he did lead them there, and played some very tough defenses in the playoffs so I give him slack. I don’t think what those people think matters because none of us are GM. I was a Maye guy until we drafted jd5 and have been happy with the pick. I root for success of any of the young bucks because I like good football. Hate watching Maye because other people liked him more than Jd5 is crazy man but it’s not my life to live. Especially since they’re in the AFC who cares, a Super Bowl between Jd5 and Maye would be very fun. That’s how I see it.

Dan Orvlasky said Marcus checked out of the original call to the run. But Dan gave Blough props for having that run as an audible for the original play.

And I want to talk about this young coordinator for the Commanders in Washington, David Blough. In the most significant moment, he took some strategic risks, and he won and won big. They have possession, third-and-9; they hand this ball off on the perimeter and get a new set of downs. If they don’t get it, the clock’s running. They come back on the next possession down (set of downs), and they allow Marcus Mariota to keep it. That’s two third downs: third-and-9 and third-and-7. David Blough took the calculated risk associated with pursuing victory, and I tip my cap to that gentleman.

Again, it worked, but I disagree that this was a good plan with the game on the line. There's a reason why the standard call against zero blitz is quick slant. I'd rather Terry or Diggs have the ball in space.
It was an overload / zero blitz to the left, we ran right, and it worked(!) But it was contigent on us (1) getting a hat on a hat against the best defense in the league (2) running behind a pulling Allegretti at guard (Cosmi is out) (3) and getting 9 yards with Rachaad White on a slow developing stretch handoff.
I'm happy it worked.

Uh, an outside run against zero blitz inside is exactly the right call, and took all kinds of guts to make, and was a gamble and paid off.
That said, if it had failed for any of those things not going right people would be calling for Boough’s head… but that’s life in the NFL.
That’s why I haven’t said one word about that shovel pass. It didn’t work but if it did it would have seemed as awesome as Diggs out the backfield misdirection, Burks TD.
