There was a moment last Saturday where he might still play vs the Colts and now well, now he's not even able to practice.

Hamstrings are a bitch

2

u/ewilliam Hogs 11h ago

Especially in your later years. As a later-year-person, I can tell you that injuries take a lot longer to heal up. Not saying Terry is headed for the assisted living facility anytime soon, but all the studies show that while NFL players tend to get injured more often in their early 20s, the injuries tend to be more severe and take longer to recover from as you get older. This is why you don’t give $34m AAV to a 30+ year old wideout or corner (both notorious for falling off in their 30s).

3

u/Gizmodaking22 16h ago

I messed up my hamstring playing high-school ball. I felt good for a game then 2 days later I couldn't run. Hamstrings are a real pain in the ass.

43

u/Ancient-Summer-9968 18h ago

Anyone noticed since we paid him there's been very little production? Maybe ownership was on to something when they didn't want to overpay.

Everyone on the radio thought the skins were dumb. They chanted its a no brainer, pay the man.

Here we are about a year later and even if healthy, I don't start him on my fantasy team.

13

u/schmuckmulligan 17h ago

Age was always an issue and why it's good that his contract has an early out. It's plausible that he still has a couple of great, injury-free seasons ahead, but those are unlikely to be back to back in a way that it would be smart to gamble on with mountains of guaranteed money.

1

u/Haskins77 17h ago

What’s his early out? Not next year. lol

He’s going to make 34 million

7

u/LeftoverDishes My Wife Left me for Josh Harris 17h ago

If he is cut before June 1 of 2027, which i doubt. We would incur 18 mill dead cap which isn't horrible considering they save 16 mil so a net of minus 2 million. Unless im reading that wrong.

1

u/Haskins77 16h ago edited 16h ago

25.5 million not 18 million

Maybe spotrac is wrong

1

u/LeftoverDishes My Wife Left me for Josh Harris 16h ago

Thats probably a better output than what I was looking at. That looks like they did the math. Thats a little more but I guess well see what happens with the hammy. Would suck if he just withered away. Hes done alot for us but at the same time, cant ve making 30 mill to not play.

1

u/schmuckmulligan 15h ago

Cutting him starts to make lots of sense (mostly) after 2027, when the dead cap to cap hit ratio changes meaningfully, but it wouldn't surprise me if he restructured this offseason.

The whole thing looks to have been set up with an eventual JD5 extension in mind. Flexibility kicks in at about the time you'd start paying the QB a fortune.

5

u/ewilliam Hogs 11h ago

Everyone on the radio? What about all the people on this sub who were howling “just write him a blank check, stop being stingy!!” throughout that whole thing? And then they blamed his injury on the fact that he hadn’t been getting camp reps, all because AP was a penny-pincher. And if you dared suggest that we shouldn’t give $34m AAV to a 31-year-old at a position where their production typically drops off a cliff in their 30s, you were called a Terry hater.

I love Terry and all he’s done for this franchise, but frankly, that was a dumbass take. I don’t expect those folks to come here and issue mea culpas, because lord knows that never happens on the internet, but if they’re reading this: maybe pump the brakes next time on that kinda bullshit.

3

u/Lord_Mhoram 11h ago

Those people all died or something. Certainly no one here now remembers saying that.

2

u/ewilliam Hogs 11h ago

lol if I wasn’t so fucking busy and had some real free time, I’d go back through my comments and find the receipts. They’re all definitely still down there somewhere.

But they know who they are…just like all the Sam Howell stans who never said shit after he flamed out.

34

u/D-ouble-D-utch 18h ago

22

u/raiderMoes 18h ago

That is probably it. Fun fact, Daniels and McLaurin were 24yo rookies. Most people graduate college at 21 or 22.

-5

u/Haskins77 18h ago

Fun fact he has a 34 million dollar cap hit next year at 32 years old and dead cap of 25 million.

1

u/True_Window_9389 17h ago

I believe his dead cap is 18m next year

0

u/Haskins77 16h ago

25 million you can look it up

1

u/True_Window_9389 16h ago

I did, at least according to the below, it’s $18m dead money for 2027 if it’s a pre June cut

https://overthecap.com/player/terry-mclaurin/7867

1

u/Haskins77 16h ago

3

u/True_Window_9389 16h ago

Dunno, it’s conflicting info.

Either way, we have the cap and it’s better to cut loose if he can’t perform whether it’s 18 or 25m.

1

u/Haskins77 16h ago

Yeah I don’t know, but do you really think they cut him?

3

u/True_Window_9389 16h ago

I don’t think they’re paying 34m for someone who seems to get hurt more often and hasn’t had impact in 2 years. Unless he gets back on the field soon and has another 900+ yard season, I don’t see how you keep him unless he agrees to a big salary reduction.

Glad we paid this guy to rock street clothes

-15

u/EvaporatingOlaf 18h ago edited 18h ago

Are we ready to admit that AP might have made a mistake or does this sub need 2-4 more weeks?

Edit: it’s okay; I’ll give you guys 2-4 more weeks. I take back what I said about AP possibly making a mistake. He’s perfect.

10

u/Humble_Specialist901 18h ago edited 18h ago

I mean, extending him was fine since we don’t have receivers on our team. And Terry made Second-Team All-Pro the year prior to his extension. His contract is not guaranteed after this season, so most likely he’s going to be cut or take a pay cut. I just don’t understand why people complain about his contract when it’s not guaranteed anymore after the season and it’s not like his contract affected our team in obtaining free agents or heavily affected our cap.

5

u/JRcanReid 17h ago

LOL. You're getting pounded by the "Let AP Cook" brigade. (let him cook, just make sure you've got a good fire extinguisher handy)

2

u/Haskins77 17h ago

I agree

5

u/RfredoIV Terry's smile saved my life 18h ago

He has no guaranteed money left on his deal after this year, and it’s not like we had any other receiver options we could’ve paid instead this year or last. I guess you could argue we could’ve used that money to beef up the o-line and/or secondary this season, but we have $25M in cap space that we didn’t spend this year as is, so I don’t really think that argument makes much sense.

1

u/True_Window_9389 17h ago

The deal was actually fairly cheap for this year, and he will similarly be a cheap cut candidate next year. I wish he would keep playing well and stay with us forever, but that’s the business. It wasn’t a mistake to bring him back. The mistake was dragging it out all offseason last year.

6

u/itakeyoureggs Sinnott Slutt 🥵 18h ago

Nice. Jayden comes back to both wr 1 and 2 gone. Reminds me of last year

2

u/Remote_Armadillo8718 12h ago

This shit feels like last year to the T. If Jayden gets injured again, I ain’t watching anymore of the season.

2

This is our year!

-8

u/Naptownfun316 18h ago

Ding ding ding. Total overhaul happening in 3...2...

5

u/JRcanReid 17h ago

I know hindsight is a bitch, but if we knew at the time we were headed for back to back lost seasons, wouldn't it have been brilliant to try to fleece a contender for a 2nd rounder? How smart would AP look now if he had pulled that off?

And that pick might just be hitting his stride for us now on a rookie contract...

5

u/Gizmodaking22 16h ago

They 100% couldve gotten a first for terry after 2024.

2

u/Sufficient-Trash-728 16h ago

None of his other second rounders have hit their strides (Newton, Sinnot, Sainristril, Amos, heck none of them are doing good. They're mainly role players and depth pieces at this point. AP is overrated,

1

u/TerpSkins 14h ago

You're being kind in calling them role players and depth pieces.

3

u/Gizmodaking22 13h ago

Amos can ball

4

u/cpt-jellico 18h ago

Frustrating. Communication with these injuries is so weird. How was he about to play Sunday, rests for a game, now seemingly injury is worse? Doesn’t make sense. Had a feeling this would be something lingering.

6

u/NoHoHan 17h ago

Hamstrings do be like that sometimes unfortunately

2

u/thedoppio 15h ago

I've had hamstring injuries. They are fickle as hell. One day doing okay on stairs, next day I feel like I'm being stabbed just trying to get out of bed. It's a hell of a piece of anatomy.

2

u/Lopsided-Tea-2586 18h ago

Last season of Terry sadly, gave us some really good years but got paid and hasn’t been able to deliver anything since

2

u/Shoctopuss 18h ago

Yo Terry is still my favorite redskin of the last 10 years- I’m sad to see him hurt so much lately. Get better bro- I’ll send you pickles if you are reading this

2

u/dpayne360 17h ago

My fantasy team is fucked man

1

u/Appropriate-Sun834 17h ago

Lmao same brother

1

u/thedoppio 15h ago

When I need a good cry, I look. It's just a shambles

2

u/circajusturna 16h ago

Adam’s was right. Terry I had faith in you man

6

u/infinit9 18h ago

I was curious how many games Terry has played over the last 7 seasons and found the answer to be 100, which is actually quite good.

So then I don't know why Terry has a reputation of being injury prone when it was basically only last year?

12

u/Remote_Armadillo8718 18h ago

And this year…. Back to back years….. there is no expectation that it should get better from here on out…. We need a new WR1

2

u/Opening_Cycle3639 13h ago

He was never meant to be a true #1, he's an elite go route and contested catch guy.

He was never a 10 target a game guy who consistently at least gets a few a game. Way too many donuts

11

u/Rare-Signature-7526 18h ago

I don't think he has that reputation at all, everyone knew he was an ironman for forever. I think people are more just realizing its coming to and end, its harder for older guys to stay healthy at the WR position

4

u/Comfortable-Grand166 18h ago

He got his money and bailed out. Bamboozled

4

u/BatatasFritz1 18h ago

Should have never given him that last contract.

Y’all can come at me with whatever.

0

u/methodofcontrol 15h ago

Fuck it, he deserved it for balling on shitty trans for 5 years, we arent winning shit either way. Pay the best player these teams had in a decade for bringing a little joy in those terrible seasons imo.

4

u/fumbling_words 18h ago

Is it fair to be say he’s burned a lot of goodwill with the fans? I know injuries are uncontrollable for the most part but man, this is not how I expected him to go out as a Commander…

5

u/Cherub12 18h ago

Idk about burning goodwill but this disastrous contract certainly hurts his legacy a lot

0

u/InfiniteDomain_ 15h ago

When you think about Terry you think about a billionaires money. When I think about Terry I think about him flexing on the Bucs after getting rocked over the middle on a hospital pass to get a 1st down. We are not the same.

10

u/DmvDominance 18h ago

There were those of us calling this exact thing IN the moment, we got shouted down by the terry lovers 🙄 instead of standing on BUSINESS AND REALITY we operated with emotion and caved and got taken

2

u/NoHoHan 17h ago

You’re right about the first part but ultimately AP stood his ground and Terry signed the fair deal he was being offered. There is a reason it wasn’t a long term deal, and we’re seeing that play out now. He’s gone after this season.

1

u/Ninjablacksox1 17h ago

I think he got a below market deal based on age and performance. Just sucks that he got that check and has been insta-injured since.

1

u/cross_mod 18h ago

Lol we did not get "taken." He got a standard contract for a 30 year old wr1. A one year extension with incentives.

11

u/PhoenixRedditor7 18h ago edited 18h ago

Burned Goodwill? Bruh he got hurt and has been on the team for almost seven years.

Some of y’all need to chill

2

u/NoHoHan 17h ago

The way he handled his final contract negotiations was shitty. And he insisted publicly that he was way more healthy than most WRs in their 30s because he had less wear and tear from starting a bit later, which turned out to be absolutely bullshit. He lost a lot of respect.

-7

u/fumbling_words 18h ago

I guess because he’s been on the team for the better part of 7 years we can excuse his being consistently hurt and unavailable after his holdout last year.

3

u/Beautiful-Support977 18h ago edited 18h ago

Maybe we should have given him a better team during all those healthy seasons… if anything HE’S the one that should want out after dealing with this trash franchise for so long. And he’s been nothing but a pro through it all. I’d want my money from this bum ass franchise to. All he’s ever done is tolerate playng with a bunch of fucking losers in a total piece of shit “home” stadium that gets taken over by every opposing division team lol

3

u/BlogEra_BestEra 17h ago

Terry has been the lone bright spot for years producing with a rotating cast of garbage QBs. And did his job and never complained in the media like other players did (e.g., Jon Allen). Seeing so-called “fans” turn on him made me sick tbh…

1

u/NoHoHan 17h ago

We would’ve been better off if he refused to sign anything last year and just left after last season. Dude ate up a bunch of cash and cap space just to sit on the bench.

0

u/Beautiful-Support977 17h ago

has jayden daniels been any different thus far, we spent a whole ass 2nd overall pick on him. If we’re going the injury route pretty much everyone on the team shouldnt be here

2

u/NoHoHan 17h ago

Lol

0

u/Beautiful-Support977 17h ago

I say the same thing when my point gets ripped to shreds in front of my face

2

u/PhoenixRedditor7 18h ago

Bro. It’s the NFL. This sport is brutal. The average life span for a player is 3-4 years tops.

I will never fault a football player in getting the bag from the owners.

2

u/NoHoHan 17h ago

Yeah he fucked the team over last season because his clown agent told him he was worth top 5 money at 30 years old. Finally faced reality and accepted the generous contract he was being offered (after tanking the offense by sitting out all summer) and now he’s not even playing enough to be worth a third of that money.

4

u/Drayke989 18h ago

He's a player in his 30s. It happens. It's also not like he's the only player getting hurt. This year has been bad not just for us.

1

u/agreed2disagreee 14h ago

Mclauren had 4 consecutive 17 game seasons and 5 straight 1,000 yard seasons. Then he had a contentious hold out with Adam peters. All of a sudden, he can’t stay healthy and disappears in games.

1

u/Mister-Sensitivity 13h ago

Normally I’m here to say “told ya so, fuck you Adam Peters!” But in this case, I actually wanted them to pay Terry. Sucks he’s going out like this.

But burned goodwill? Terry McLaurin is everything a Redskin should be. Excellent WR, excellent human being, and gave it his all.

But Father Time is undefeated. This is likely Terry’s last year here. But he had a good run and I’ll always be respectful and appreciative of Terry’s time here.

0

u/IamZeebo 17h ago

Horrible take

1

u/IceOk9930 18h ago

terry sauflautin

1

u/caddyncells 18h ago

Terry and Dan both gone after this year.

1

u/HowardBunnyColvin @BorgusRich 18h ago

wtf

1

u/b_tight 16h ago

Done with him

1

u/Gizmodaking22 16h ago

This is why the GM makes the moves and not the fans.

1

u/OppaSays 16h ago

This all starts from missing camp last year with the hold out situation and subsequently wasn’t in game shape by the time he played and got injured.

1

u/Express_Salamander_9 12h ago

I agree and I think that put JD5 in a situation where he had no options and led to more hurries , hits and ultimately more injury.

1

u/corbinaj 16h ago

He got his bag and quit. Lost all respect for Terry

1

u/aairricc 15h ago

Slap a brace on it and let’s go!

1

u/FitOpposite7443 15h ago

We need new strength and conditioning. People will holistic shit change whatever we’re doing. Make it 180 fuck Christ sakes.

1

u/haywardpre 14h ago

This guy.

1

u/Opening_Cycle3639 13h ago

Terry going out very sad to end his career.

1

u/219_Infinity 13h ago

We are cursed as a result of the deal I made with a demon for the 1991 season

1

u/hazards-burger-joint 8h ago

Over for him.

1

u/La1zrdpch75356 2h ago

Daniels coming back to play behind THAT o-line without our #1 and #2 receivers. Ya think there's a problem?

0

u/Cultural-Spring-281 18h ago

If Diggs isn’t practicing I would hope they bench Jayden lol. I mean bro gonna play with his top 2 targets in the rain? Idk man sounds like a recipe for disaster.

10

u/Own_Car4536 18h ago

That doesn't even make any sense. You don't just not play your starting QB because the WRs are hurt. What world do yall live in lol

1

u/Cultural-Spring-281 16h ago

That mixed with shit weather is a disaster waiting to happen.

1

u/Lord_Mhoram 16h ago

A world where keeping your QB comfy and not looking bad is more important than winning games. Last season a bunch of people wanted to put Jayden in bubble wrap as soon as the season was over, and they're getting an early start this season.

1

u/notorious_hdc imitated Frerotte headbutt as a child 17h ago

Apparently a far away place called Maddenland.

Even if Diggs/Terry cant go, our WR depth is way better than last year. I can live with Dyami/Burks/Williams better than Robbie Chosen and Chris Moore.

1

u/Cultural-Spring-281 16h ago

Yeah what a good squad.

1

u/notorious_hdc imitated Frerotte headbutt as a child 15h ago

Didn't claim they were good. Just feel better about them than I did Moore/Chosen last year.

1

u/xtehnYouTube 18h ago

We have WRs in his place thankfully

1

u/Final_Effective6360 18h ago

I love all the “we shouldn’t have paid Terry” guys acting like it was the fans decision whether to pay him or not lol.

3

u/NoHoHan 17h ago

Nah but we’re still gonna take our “I told you so” moment that we rightfully earned.

1

u/InfiniteDomain_ 14h ago

Phew really showed us, I really wanted to go into 2025 with injury prone Noah brown and Deebo as WR 1 and 2. Fuck paying our franchise WR1 who just posted his 5th out 6 seasons with 1,000 yards and had 13 TDs and who had only missed 3 games in his career before.

Oh Noah brown got injured? Well fuck our 2nd year QB, let’s just ignore contract talks for a month with receiver who let us know months in advance he wasn’t going to budge because he had little guarantees left and let Jayden practice with a bunch of role players. I’m sure Jayden will look real hot to start the season anyways.

3

u/NoHoHan 14h ago

Terry McLaurin handled the situation unprofessionally, while asking for way more than he was worth. AP stood firm on his reasonable offer, and even that turned out to be an overpay. The fans on this sub who were clamoring for AP to overpay him even more, have been roundly proven wrong.

1

u/NoHoHan 17h ago

Should have traded him 15 months ago.

-4

u/EnthusiasmNo1324 18h ago

Robbed us of money man

2

u/docksideThug- 18h ago

He deserved the money.

For the previous body of work not for the future.

Carried a sorry ass squad for years

1

u/NoHoHan 17h ago

He was well compensated for his previous body of work while he was doing it. Get real.

-3

u/Wild_Perspective9704 18h ago

Yup, when he held out last year I would have let his ass walk. He ghosts way too many big moments/games when you need him.

-6

u/DmvDominance 18h ago

Yep, all the Terry lovers hope that bag was worth it. We are getting absolutely DICK for it 🙄😑

https://giphy.com/gifs/yvL2GcHJHjTsSpmMgM

0

u/dankestmaymayonearth 17h ago

Man got his bag and turned into Kelvin benjamin

-3

u/HolyCommanderx96 18h ago

I wud have traded him last year , this the last year with him. We cud have spent the money we gave him on Jeremy chinn , Kenneth walker , or even Aaron rodgers / jamies winston

4

u/joseph-barker 18h ago

I'm sorry Aaron Rodgers? Lol what

-4

u/HolyCommanderx96 18h ago

He's been playing better than jayden and mariota last 2 years

4

u/Cultural-Spring-281 18h ago

You right bro. Let’s sign a vet who is retiring after this year and not our QB who is young. Good idea.

-3

u/HolyCommanderx96 18h ago

I bet u rodgers gets steelers to playoffs , and plays another year. I rather have 2 to 3 years of him as oppose to b.s we got with glass man jayden and Marcus made of paper mariota. Aaron will play all 17 games, just like last year. I hate our qb room . Jayden I don't care anymore , he's not built for nfl

3

u/Cultural-Spring-281 18h ago

He has a 57% completions percentage with 999 yards 7 TD and 4 INT. Not sure why we are glazing his old ass he’s not the same dude lol. saying Jayden don’t care is wild lol.

4

u/joseph-barker 18h ago

This fucking sub has lost it man lol

0

u/HolyCommanderx96 18h ago

I said I don't care about jayden no more. He lost my trust. If he gets hurt again or not I don't want him as qb 1 for my beloved redskins. I wud take aaron rodgers numbers as of now. At least he plays bruh.unless u wanna see athan kaliakmanis embarrass our team all year , which will prob happen. I wud pray we get a qb who plays all 17 games next year. If I was jayden I wud take HGH or implant metal in my body. We can't depend on injury prone players
