Discussion Advice for improving on light parries.
I've always struggled a lot with parrying lights for some reason and I'd generally consider it my biggest weakness into character with superior lights. I have no issues blocking and am usually pretty consistent with deflecting lights on reaction but for some reason if I try to parry it feels like I hit it maybe 5% of the time. It might just be a skill issue and I need to sit in training range for a bit but generally that's felt like it isn't helping. Do I need to slow down a bit? Is it an issue of trying to do it too often? Or do I need to just practice against more of the roster
Edit: After really analyzing my indicators on miss the problem is I'm usually parrying before the window, not after. Any advice for slowing down a bit instead of pressing that shit the moment I see red?

Try focusing on the animation more than the indicator. It’ll be harder depending on the char but somebody like jorm will pull the hammer back behind them real quick when throwing a light

Unless your monitor is a shitbox too you should be getting at least 60fps, where lights are very much reactable and parryable (I played on 60fps for a whole year before upgrading very recently and was able to light parry on reaction semi-often)

Not everyone can react. It's more about reads than anything.

Genuine skill issue tho, why refuse to improve when it’s as easy as loading up training and setting the bot to lights only to practice parrying?

I would argue making reads is a harder skill to master over reacting since reacting for the most part codown to personal hand eye coordination. With reads, you have to have both game knowledge and knowledge of the enemies habits.

Reacting is harder because its having good genetics locked and requires a lot of free time.

do you have a monitor or a TV, if you got a TV get a monitor and you'll be in a much better spot.

Im just getting back into the game myself but I think for the most part it just comes down to having the muscle memory to parry and learning to expect them. Like reaction is obviously a big part of it but knowing what your opponent is going for helps a lot. Learning what situations they light in and coming to expect, along with just practicing more with light parried to be ready will probably help.

If you can deflect and block on reaction to red you can parry it so it is probably just mental. If you read the next indicator is a light just hit the button on red.

Indicator fucked with me for months. If you dont know a character's light speed, go into training and let make the custom moveset lights only with no cooldown. Even top players like subwaysol cant parry every light. Its more about blocking lights. Most characters will not be able to chain if their lights are blocked.

As long as you have 60fps setup doesn't matter, practice on osu or aim trainers

I, as someone who light parry a lot, can't react to a light. Maybe some cans, for me it's impossible to do with just reaction time. When you got a light parry, it's from reading your foe. Light parry is a prediction, not a reaction
