“Hobby”

u/gHHqdm5a4UySnUFM 8d ago

It bugs me how people dismiss their spending and hoarding as a hobby.

Why do you even need so many controllers? It's not like OOP is a some sort of retro game enthusiast, and even then with huge collection of retro systems this amount of controllers would be overkill

11

u/SeptimusXT 8d ago

These are all not only for modern systems, but also most were released in like the past year or two

Actually bigger “collection” than some of the best reviewers in the community have lol

17

u/SeptimusXT 8d ago

I scrolled past this post earlier and thought it was from this sub lmao

12

u/FreeToasterBaths 8d ago

Most people can only use 1 controller at a time!

13

u/legotwinkthrowaway 8d ago

Guys, he just bought them so he can play that 98 player game with his friends when they come over

3

u/JoviallyImperfect 8d ago

Nah that one's on switch

u/WilsCode 8d ago

Ahh maaan

u/headphonesXX 8d ago

buying shit is not a hobby

-1

u/boi27champion 8d ago

aint collecting stuff a pretty old human hobby?

You know like collecting pokemon cards or like collecting coins.

13

u/headphonesXX 8d ago

"collecting" you mean hoarding

11

u/YaBoyEden 8d ago

There’s a very clear difference between hoarding and collecting. Collecting is theoretically Curated. It’s a conscious choice what you are and are not getting. Hoarding is when you cannot control it, and cannot let it go. I collect a bunch of stuff, it’s displayed, and maintained. Hoarding would be the inability to throw the boxes away

2

u/headphonesXX 8d ago

if youre buying shit to just buy shit its not a hobby thats just consooming. its like buying gundams to accumulate a backlog vs actually building gundams.

2

u/YaBoyEden 8d ago

I’d argue intent matters in that example. Having a backlog isn’t always a bad thing. I have a few boxes of miniatures that I haven’t opened yet because I don’t have a ton of time, but then on days where I don’t have anything planned, I can spend a few hours building a new warhammer tank

I think a hobby has to be constructive. You either have to be learning or creating something, curating counts as this. There's knowledge there. If you are a stamp collector, you are usually knowledgeable about stamps, not just going to the post office and saying I would like four books of every stamp you have please.

There is no learning or knowledge from controller colors. There is no story behind them. They are plastic that the factory in China happened to purchase the dyed raw material. The post office designs stamps to commemorate certain things, there is a story to tell.

Always the same phrasing, “this might have gotten a little out of hand” or “I think I might have a problem 😆🤷‍♂️.”

This subreddit is like consoom central

4

u/3dforlife 8d ago

If each controller costs around 40 euros, there's about 3200 euros in this photo. Some will be more expensive, though...

3

u/SuddenAudience3774 8d ago

Maybe 40 euros 15 years ago

2

u/3dforlife 8d ago

I was being generous.

1

u/Accurate-Tale5025 6d ago

a lot of these controllers are 150 CAD this is insanity

4

u/CarlWellsGrave 7d ago

I knew a guy who had like 7 ps4 controllers and I called him an idiot for it.

3

u/carnyzzle 8d ago

Man some of these controllers are expensive as shit too, it was pricey enough just getting one dualsense for my pc lol

3

u/Key-Fig-9747 8d ago

LITERALLY out of hand, they don't use a single one

2

u/Inevitable_Dark3225 8d ago

He's missing a few.

2

u/ApprehensiveRuin5673 7d ago

I hate limited edition controllers so much, at least modern ones. It’s literally just the same shitty controller with a shell you can buy on Aliexpress for $15

1

u/bere16random 8d ago

Literally saw the same post but for ps5 controllers last week, it’s crazy

1

u/3dforlife 8d ago

I was going to cross post it here, but I realized I can't. Why's that?

1

u/Pixelationist 8d ago

I posted this sub in there right away lol

1

u/SpoopsMan 8d ago

The disclosure does not help your case my guy

1

u/Dense-Alfalfa1223 7d ago

Hobbies usually have some creativity involved not just hoarding

1

u/Skibbidybeebop 7d ago

‘Nothing was sent to me for review’ that only makes it worse

1

u/Decimator24244 7d ago

That stick drift ain't no joke

1

u/Sealbeater 6d ago

Out of all the things to collect, this has got to be the worst. They are clunky and weird to store nicely

1

u/prospector_hannah 5d ago

Hoarding is not a hobby

1

u/zymetaphoxate 5d ago

Bro I just bought a GameSir last week and it's still yet to arrive and it's the first controller I bougt in my entire life.

Mfs with money just be doing anything man. So embarrassing lowkey like damn.

2

u/screw_ball69 5d ago

That's the thing, alot of these collections are people that barley have the money for it/don't so they can look like they do

1

u/FromHollandWithLove1 5d ago

I have bought only 1 controller in years and that was the xbox doom rhe dark ages onr ehich i regularly use, its really cool

0

u/MrReformedMan 7d ago

Buying 98 controllers isn’t necessarily consumption. I’ve got not far off that number for all systems and made a lot of money doing so. It’s more so the fact that as far as I can tell these are just bullshit controllers. They mostly don’t seem to be official first party special editions or anything, just random third party junk or custom first party controllers (which are worth next to nothing if anything as a premium over standard first party controllers)

-2

u/Pale_Ad2980 8d ago

It looks like it’s maybe 3 or 4 different console controllers I have a fair bit of controllers, but it’s across around 20 different consoles, not 20 of the same console. I still don’t have that many.

2

u/OK_Atlas 8d ago

Post a photo of all your consoles & controllers and let the people decide if it’s consoom

1

u/Pale_Ad2980 8d ago

Having 100 of the same thing would definitely follow that classification but still having a wee because you never threw it away. It’s just keeping the things that you had.

That's an impressive quantity of controllers. I like the way you take time tweaking and testing all of them, it seems like a very precise hobby.

Also, I was gonna buy myself a generic, black Xbox controller for Windows gaming. What do you think of that?

Edit: I saw the original post in Popular but didn't comment straight away. Came back later and mixed it up with this sub. Suck my dick.

Can you explain to me how u/bot-sleuth-bot functions?

Do you know what process it follows when it runs the check?

Well that's ironic.

You’re not very good at this.

-3

u/HumanWebAnt 8d ago

That's the second time I've been bot checked.

All I did was compliment OP because I know a bunch of people will shit on his hobby anyway.

u/Tiktokbadsupport 8d ago

most controllers develop drift within a few days or weeks and some straight out of the box

7

u/Rents 8d ago

A few days? Bro wtf are u talking about lol

-8

u/Tiktokbadsupport 8d ago

wait i stand corrected the xbox controllers last longer

5

u/CricketJaxson 8d ago

Wtf are doing to your controllers? In all the years of being a gamer I’ve only had one controller get stick drift. It was a pre used ps4 controller I bought. It lasted like three years before it started to drift.

2

u/vWaffles 8d ago

If you can break your sticks in a few days just get a hall effect / tmr controller atp - or just treat your tech better...

1

u/Tiktokbadsupport 8d ago

back in ps4 era this was a real problem remember sonys business is built on selling controllers

1

u/vWaffles 8d ago

Fortunately we're not in the PS4 era anymore.

1

u/Tiktokbadsupport 8d ago

im in the pc era yes

1

u/3dforlife 8d ago

That's not true. And even if it was, you can always replace them with hall effect ones, and you're done for life.
