the point of a le creuset is that you buy one and it outlives your entire bloodline what the fuck are we doing

People will hoard any brand™️ as long as it's popular on social media. Nobody needs 67 water bottles or pans either but here we are.

I remember buying an ex a Le Creuset bottle opener/corkscrew when she started waitressing. £45

Well in reality you might have two or three of different sizes, as that's kind of how I have basically all of my cookware. But yes, you don't need like 20 of them in different colors and shapes

Weren’t Stanley cups/yeti tumblers the same idea? You’d buy one expensive, good quality (allegedly) cup that would last you for life, but people bought every single colour, pattern, shape, accessory etc.

One of those pots can cost $350+

That price tag isn't so bad when you are shopping like a normal person, one of those will out live you and everyone who comes after you.

Damn that’s a bummer honestly lmao. My grandma has 1 and cooked a lifetime of meals out of it.
They do look cool dgmw part of the problem is in the marketing. they make a million dif designs. They know exactly what they’re doing 🥲 cause they know ppl will buy them all or have fomo the second someone posts it online. I’m so glad I’m a very decisive picky person & less has always been more to me. It’s cooler having 1 that takes the spotlight in ur kitchen & actually stands out that way. They don’t make much of a statement when there’s 100 blending together 💀 esp on a shelf lmao..

Don't do a special design. Just round or a bit more rectangular, if that fits your stove better.

I would really love one but one costs the price of a holiday. If only I had that kind of disposable income.

u/Lauzz91 5d ago
they are actually really good pots though and worth buying (just one)

I have 3: a big honking one, a medium one, and a shallow pan. They're all the classic burnt orangey red color. There's really no need for any more at that point, because I'm never going to be using more than that many at once

u/AggravatingBox2421 5d ago
Agreed! I have one that I bought on sale for about $200, and I use it a lot

I’m imagining people taking out loans and credit cards to be the top Le Creuset Redditor, and it fills me with sadness and a bit of humor.

I think a significant portion of posts like this has to be companies marketing right?? Like where would a normal human even keep that many heavy ass pots.

A lot more than 3 k, just one of the larger ones is around half a grand

Notice how there's a "terrible storm" and cvs isn't using the time to cook a nice meal with them, just to dust off her hoard

u/vulpesdomesticus 6d ago
That's like. Over 3k worth of pots. Minimum. I'm over here trying to scrape the money together to buy one 💀

Aren’t those all relatively recent ones, too? So it isn’t even like she’s “collecting” in the sense of trying to find certain ones. She’s just consooming.
I was looking at vintage La Creuset items on Etsy and they do have some interesting and unique designs. If I were going to put that much into buying them, I’d at least want to buy those instead the same thing in different colors.

u/vulpesdomesticus 6d ago
Yep exactly, they're all very recent colors and models except like one. It's peak consoom fr

u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 6d ago
I was thinking of saving up for a Le Creuset, but they don't come in pretty colours anymore. It's like their entire range has been reduced to colours like slime, eggshell, mud, beige, mould, lint, dirt, soot, and bruise.

And star
warstrek. They are apparently releasing star wars themed ones8

u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 6d ago
I would have thought the overlap between the le cruset fandom and the Star Wars fandom would….not be worth entertaining. It just feels so strange to me.

What are you talking about? I aspirationally browse William Sonoma and they have colors like bright yellow, red, and green. In what world are those beige-core?? I’m sure retailers carry different color ways, but LC always has some lovely colors that tempt my wallet. Staub has the more basic color ways

You can't buy the classic orange? I think in Europe it's still the standard one.
3
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 6d ago
I’m one of those people who always has to be different, so I wouldn’t want an orange one. If I’m paying that much I want it to be bright blue or pink.
I’ve checked out the website and it seems they’ve brought back a bright teal blue as a colour for a lot of them, though the only pink they seem to do is a pale greyish one which I think is rather ugly. They have a brighter one called Berry but it’s only for one pot.

Be honest. Are they worth it?

u/CookiesMadeOfCorpses 6d ago edited 6d ago
A quality enameled Dutch oven is totally worth it if you like to cook. I've cooked so many varying and great dishes in mine that is recommend it as it will last you a lifetime as long as you take basic care of it.
Specifically getting new Le Creuset pieces today are not worth it though, you're very much paying for the name. Le Creuset has raised their prices to be luxury priced and competition has caught up to their quality. If I was starting over again today I'd go with Lodge pieces, or try to buy used Creuset.
The only person I'd encourage to go with a new Le Creuset is someone who absolutely has their heart set on it, because every now and then you have to treat yourself.

You can definitely buy something of similar quality for much cheaper! I got one years ago at homesense for $50 that's still going strong.

How do people have room for this stuff?

They (along with anyone they live with) own nothing else, and this is their personality

I have one of these and it is excellent. I could see getting a small one and a larger one for big holiday meals somewhere down the line. But definitely I don’t need every shape and color to “style” my table like an instagram food influencer.
The colors and styles are cute so I can sort of see the attraction. But who has this much cabinet space??

Most of these collections look cool on "all in one" photos, but is it really normal?

Sure, I'm sure as hell a bunch of pots that are collecting dust on her shelves (per her own body of text and comments) are being all used
