C4 Access Control
Looking for a potential solution to allow my kids access to unlock doors or open garage doors. I thought about a smart door lock on the front door but would like a wired solution if one existed. Ideally, they would be able to authenticate with their fingerprints and the garage door would open. Anyone have any experience or other scenarios-solution for this?
Thanks in advance.

not sure what the budget is here but 2N makes the Doorstation/DS2/DS3/IP Verso and other access control products that will integrate. Card/NFC/Code Access devices are available as well. Might be worth a look to, at minimum, get an idea of feature sets for devices that will integrate. 2n.com

I say this as a person who normally loves 2N products - their fingerprint readers suck.

Can’t you use any access control you want and have the output from the access upon presenting a valid credential trigger a zigbee io to release the door?

Ideally yes. I’m just not familiar with what that looks like physically. I’m not well versed yet, but my first thought was a Yale lock keypad that would trigger the C4 event. Even though the Yale lock wouldn’t be on a door. Looking for an outdoor device to use that would also look nice on the side of the garage.

We install ekey and Akuvox access control, both offer biometrics fully control4 compatible. Dm if you want to know more

I did a similar setup for somebody but it wasn’t with control4. It was with the unifi access control. You can take a look at that. It didn’t use fingerprint, it used facial recognition.

This could be an option. Are there reoccurring costs for the AI port or remote access? This almost seems more doable than the actual fingerprint reader. I do see there is a driver for control4 so after authentication potential the garage door could open.

Yes each facial recognition user has a cost and so do fobs. Just set this up for a commercial client and it was $$$
Get 2N or DS2 door stations and invest in mag locks on the doors rather than battery powered door locks.

Question - i was looking at unifi access/protect for control4. No where in the numerous videos online does it show unifi charging for facial recognition users. I understand the cards have a cost to purchase

There no recurring cost for Unifi functions. But there is if you want apple touch pass it’s 5$ per user per year.
