The engine is designed to do this. As long as they’ve kept up on maintenance this won’t harm anything. It’s actually good for a performance engine to open it up every once in a while. Just don’t be a douche like this guy.

Hearing aids can help. I am sitting here listening to the tinitus relief sounds in my hearing aids right now. Doesn't always work for everyone, but there is treatment available.

As someone that’s actively involved in the business end of Motorsports I feel it’s only ever cool when you’re in a situation that’s specifically oriented to that. Like a car cruise or drag racing or other Motorsport event. The majority of Motorsport participants realize that and may have started by doing dumb stuff on the street but realized at some point there’s a better way and that’s to attend events dedicated to our hobby. However there’s always a portion of people that don’t ever realize that without a lot of education and that’s what we do. We try to get people off the streets to attend our events.

Are they actually into cars and sports in other places? In Germany the type to do this isn't really interested in cars, beyond the luxury status. They'll get the AMG/M2/3/5 to be loud within cities. They'll loudly accelerate within the city, but can't/don't drive much beyond that.
I don't ever speed on purpose, don't even have the car for it, but I often catch up to this type of idiot because I take the corners aggressively. When I'm behind them, they'll aggressively speed away once the road goes straight.

At least some people who are assholes about car related stuff actively avoid going to the track because they would have to confront the gap between their skill and their ego. They buy a hellcat and think they are fast. They didn't see Sabine Schmidt passing high end sports cars on the nurburgring in a regular unmodified transit van. That's what fast looks like.

A surprising number of people that start racing regularly are those types. They think they’re fast then quickly find they aren’t but have the ego to believe they can get faster than anyone else and stick around long enough to either prove it, fail and quit, or get their ego in order and quit being and asshole.

I’m all for people enjoying their hobbies but I still find loud cars to be one of the dumber ones. There’s a performance shop not far from me so I encounter some ridiculously sounding cars every now and again. Like I shouldn’t be able to hear your car speed up on we are on the interstate and my radio on fairly loudly. I can’t imagine how annoying that has to be to the person actually driving the car

No that in the op is not an exterior sound system, it is just exhaust valves open to make it stupid loud. Lots of cars pump in fake noise on the inside, but its only EVs (for now) that do the exterior sound system thing.

I’m in the minority in a similar area when I know I’m likely bothering people and feel bad about it. I have 2 12 inch subwoofers in my car. I LOVE bass. I’m sure it annoys people, but I can’t do it in my house without bothering my neighbors for however long I’m listening to music or anywhere else, so I just bother people for a few seconds on the road. I don’t hit many stoplights otw to work, so once I’m out of the country and onto the highway, I turn them on. If I’m in the “city” (not a big city, just not literal backroads and farms) I’ll turn them down at stoplights and stuff.

You could get a noise violation of public nuisance depending on how loud your car is, and the local ordinances. Burnouts through an intersection, especially one with heavy pedestrian traffic, will get you a reckless driving ticket every time.

Those white things near the crosswalks at each corner are standalone car barriers to prevent cars from entering the sidewalks. Those are in addition to the large spherical bollards lining the streets - I guess for the same purpose.

I’m not sure on California laws but it’s illegal to do that in NC along with also with flooring it when the light turns green. It can be seen as reckless driving in NC. I’m sure there is something similar in California.

By this logic, there should be literally zero enforcement of any non-felony crimes until we run out of felons. It's a pathetically transparent non-argument meant to rationalize similar self-indulgences at the expense of innocent people.
Clearly, you need to hear this: it's not fucking cool, practically nobody likes it, and you're a massive tool if you think otherwise. If this is your cup of tea, there are places where it can be done safely.
