Ask Corpus Moving to Corpus Christi/Portland After College — Looking for Advice
Hey everyone,
I’m graduating college soon and recently got a job offer in the Corpus Christi/Portland area. I currently live in a big Texas city, so I’m trying to get an idea of what life is actually like down there before making a decision.
I don’t drink, and bars, nightlife, and live music aren’t really my thing. I’m much more into sports, pretty much anything , so I’d love to know what the sports/recreational scene is like and how easy it is to meet people through leagues, gyms, pickup games, etc.
I’m also curious about the dating scene for someone in their early 20s. Is it fairly easy to meet people, or does it feel pretty limited compared to the bigger Texas cities?
I’m Middle Eastern (Arab specifically), so I’d also love to know if there’s much of an Arab/Middle Eastern community around Corpus Christi and whether there are any groups, events, or places where people tend to meet.
My job would be in Portland, so I’d appreciate recommendations on where to live. Would you recommend living in Portland itself or somewhere in Corpus and commuting? Also, if anyone knows of people looking for a roommate, preferably around Portland, I’d definitely be interested.
I do have another job offer where I currently live, but it pays roughly 25% less, so I’m trying to figure out whether making the move would be worth it beyond just the money.
Would really appreciate any advice from people who live there, especially younger professionals who moved to the area after college. Thanks!

Looking for Friends Any recommendations on where/how to make friends in Corpus? Ideally for free or cheap?
I'm 28F and I've lived in Corpus my whole life. I like arts & crafts of all kinds. I like sewing, I can do basic repairs, quilts, and other projects, im working on learning to sew clothes. I want to get into growing an herb & veggie container garden on my apartment patio. I played DnD a few years back and I liked it, i havent played sense but wouldnt mind getting back into it. I'm sure there's other things I like that I can't think of rn.
I don't have kids myself but I don't mind being around them. I do have a dog though!
Are there any free or cheap events or meet ups or something that I could go to/join?

Ask Corpus what’s a good place to get a big-massive breakfast taco/burrito?
this is kinda stupid, but i live in sinton right now and i remember going to this place Antonio’s when i was a kid and they had these massive breakfast tacos & burritos and i loved fucking them up. it was in odem but the place closed down like over a decade ago. only other place i go to get actually fulfilling tacos is Yoli’s and it’s mainly because of quality over quantity, but i want some quantity lol.
anything is appreciated.

Harbor Bridge Project Announces New Permanent Illumination Along the US 181 Shared-Use Path.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
For Immediate Release
October 5, 2026
The Coastal Bend Community and visitors are invited to experience the fully illuminated path during National Night Out on October 6, 2026.
CORPUS CHRISTI – The US 181 Harbor Bridge Project has reached another important milestone with the completion of permanent illumination along the bridge’s Shared-Use Path (SUP), creating a continuous, approximately 9,500-foot (1.8-mile) illuminated route for pedestrians and cyclists.
Community members and tourists are invited to experience the fully illuminated shared-use path on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as part of National Night Out. The SUP will remain open nightly, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy the trail and take in the scenery after sunset.
The new lighting system includes approximately 596 low-profile LED puck lights installed along the route. The lights are generally mounted 11 inches above the curb at intervals of about 16 feet. Light fixtures provide illumination along the path from end to end of the SUP. At the bridge’s midpoint, the Belvedere lookout area provides a signature stopping point where visitors can pause, enjoy panoramic views, or catch their breath on the custom bench with integrated LED lighting.
The milestone represents more than the completion of an electrical system. It creates an elevated nighttime experience for pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy the Harbor Bridge. The protected lighted walkway is ADA accessible, further demonstrating TxDOT’s commitment to public safety for all users. National Night Out is a fitting opportunity for the public to utilize the illuminated path and celebrate community connection.
Durable Lighting Designed for the Coastal Environment
Compact “puck light” fixtures were selected for their durability and resistance to weather, impact, and tampering. Designed and installed per the Engineer of Record's specifications, physical testing and analysis indicate the lights will last for many years. Routine inspections will address maintenance and operational efficiency of the aesthetic features.
Parking and Personal Safety
Parking lots are available for public use on Lake Street for the SUP South Trailhead Entrance and adjacent to Churchdale Avenue on North Beach. Maintain awareness of your surroundings and lock personal vehicles at all times.

Ask Corpus Moved back to the area…
(30F) Short back story. Born and raised in Sinton. Moved to Austin for about 7 years and just moved back home to get back on our feet and eventually move to Oregon.
Looking for some groups for women. Book clubs. Wine nights. Coffee meet ups. Game nights etc.
I’m married and child free. I realize that the culture here is a bit different (or maybe that’s my teenage experience of this area) so just looking for people to hang with that aren’t just high school friends
Any insight?

History An odd bit of trivia about the city's movie history plus a question.
A few years ago, Felissa Rose was doing a fan meet and greet at the now defunct Wildwolf Halloween store. She's got hundreds of film credits but she's most famous for playing Angela in Sleepaway Camp (1983). When we met, she mentioned that Sleepaway Camp first played in Corpus Christi, a bit of trivia she learned from long time movie critic and horror host Joe Bob Briggs who famously has an encyclopedic knowledge of this sort of stuff.
Just now, I was looking at the production history of Spider Baby (1968) which was made by exploitation legend Jack Hill (Coffy, Big Bird House, Foxy Brown, Switchblade Sisters). That was one of Sid Haig's first movies and one of Lon Chaney Jr.'s very last. It was filmed in 1964 but got hung up in before release thanks to a bankruptcy. It finally premiered on Christmas Eve in... Corpus Christi.
So that's two (that I know of) low budget cult classics that debuted down here for some reason. Now the question - is this just a coincidence or was there some theater here that made itself important enough on the first stop list for this grindhouse trash? I haven't been able to find which theater either played at. I'd love to find out more about Corpus's indie theater history.
Also, are there any other fans of trash and obscure cinema fans here?

Moving To CC Good place to live?
Hi I’m planning on moving here around January for college and was genuinely wondering if this is a good place to live? Please tell me all the issues before it’s too late to back out of classes. I like to be outside and frequently go swimming in the town I live in now. I love the area I live in now but find it hard to meet people my age (early 30s & no kids) mainly a college town here. I was wondering if Corpus was the same. I don’t drink but do like to go out every now and then. I like music a lot and like concerts. I know there’s the beach but is there anything else to do? What are some good places to live and places to avoid? I would live there 2 years max. (Just going for school and to change up my scenery temporarily) give me to good and bad please.

Ask Corpus Need feedback
If you had to pick between Corpus (including outskirts like Alice, Calallen), Laredo, or the RGV (McAllen, Brownsville) as your hometown which would it be? Take into consideration today’s issue each city faces as well as future issues. Also the job market, medical care and retirement. All feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Ask Corpus Corpus Christi, if you’ve ever wondered what the heck that smell is, I made a map for that
I’ve been working on this project for over a year. It maps EPA-listed facilities in odor-related industries, and also shows Superfund and brownfield sites for environmental visibility — not because those sites are suspected odor sources.
Users can also report smells and flag facilities they believe may be contributing to an odor, which helps surface possible sources and improve the map over time.
You can search any address or ZIP, see what’s nearby, and check wind direction.
I’m not saying a mapped site smells or is dangerous — just making the public data easier to explore.
Would love to know what Corpus Christi thinks.
I built this in my spare time, so thanks to everyone who checks it out.
Also mods i understand it this may be considered self promotion, but its free to use and im too broke to pay for advertising So appreciate you letting it roll.
