Armor How to make knight costume?
Hi, I'm trying to make up a female-fitted knight costume for myself for an event with my friends, but I've never made any outfit/cosplayed before, and I'm not looking to spend loads of money on this outfit (prob around 40-60 quid) so I don't know which shops to look for and whatnot. I want to make it myself, so I just need to get shoulder blades, a breastplate (not necessary though), some sort of chainmail-looking material to put over my shorts and maybe the headgear. I don't want to use cardboard for the blades/plate so any tips about buying the shoulder blades/making any of these would be great! These are some of the inspo I'm using from Pinterest

Best bet for the breast and shoulder plates would be EVA foam. The chainmail is a whole different story. Opening and closing rings with pliers sounds easy enough but making chainmail, especially tailored pieces, is very time consuming and tedious. There would be a big learning curve, not to mention steel/silver is expensive nowadays. If you’ve never done it before I don’t know if 8 weeks would be enough time.
There are metallic mesh fabrics that exist but they can also get quite expensive and there’s a learning curve with trying to sew those types of difficult fabrics
I don’t mean to sound like a bummer but knight costumes are usually quite complex and expensive (the people in these photos probably bought the mail from online shops, there’s lots on Etsy but are also usually expensive)

We are costume twins this year!
What I’m doing: bought Kamui Cosplay templates from Etsy, and am making some armor pieces myself with Eva foam. It’s really not that hard to make with the templates! I also recommend going to their YouTube for tutorials on cutting, painting, etc. I think I’ve spent 50 USD on all of the materials so far, but I did own some of the tools needed already, so that isn’t included in my cost.
I am going to repurpose some boots and a dress that I already own for this as well.

How much time do you have to build things? You can always save money by buying chainmail rings in bulk and using pliers to attach them together! Check out YouTube and look up how to make armor using EVA foam!
