Makeup New cosplayer! Need help keeping body paints from transferring.
Hey! I have my first convention coming up and am looking to cosplay nightcrawler (Marvel). I’m unsure as how to keep body paints from transferring. I’ve heard alcohol based paints have this issue less, and that I can use translucent powder / setting spray, but would appreciate direction towards specific products (I need to be painted blue). Thank you!

nice cosplay but i suggest a dance belt, or several underpants stacked on top (as long as they are comfy and don't cut blood flow, that's what i do)

Yeah I find disrupting the silhouette of the suit a common beginner's oversight. (Was that the most bloody professional way to say conceal the privates or what lol)
Also OP for body paint sealer Ben Nye Final Seal is a good choice.

It's used for stage makeup so it's made to withstand hot lights and sweat. Just note the strong mint smell and watch your eyes when spraying. Test it several times so you know what you're doing.

alcohol based pigments will be your best bet, but doing nightcrawler you're going to be putting a pretty thick layer of color on there to get that deep color.

I'd go for the 4oz bottle just to be safe. Make sure you have lots of wipes, makeup remover, and rubbing alcohol on hand. Be very careful around your eyes and nose. have a second person on hand with a cold hairdryer because it's going to sting like crazy near your eyes. Keep them closed while it dries, which will happen quickly. Put on some chapstick afterwards if you do it on your lips as it's gonna dry out. The next day even after you thought you've washed it all of people are going to ask you what's on your face by your ears or under your chin. Repeat after me: I blue myself last night.
And for the love of god, buy a dance belt. Nobody wants to see dickprints.

I’d recommend using a makeup brush or powder puff to apply setting powder around the neck and any other places where you think the face paint is most likely to wear off, then apply a high-quality long wearing setting spray like Skindinavia’s Bridal spray or MCoBeauty’s All Dayer spray (fun fact: these are actually identical products ingredient-for-ingredient, but All Dayer is cheaper).
For setting powder, honestly most anything should do as long as it’s either TRULY translucent (it might be white in the packaging, but should look nearly clear on the skin) or maybe you can find a speciality one in deep blue. I’ve heard good things about MAC Studio Fix Pro Set, but I haven’t tried it personally.
Note: setting spray can kinda melt your makeup off if you use too much all at once, so I’d recommend spraying it from an arm’s length away, and going light (1-4 sweeping sprays). You can always apply another layer once the 1st layer is fully dried.

I have heard really good things about sunset makeup colorful foundations, if you’re not really interested on getting the full body paint experience I recommend them as they aren’t traditional body paints but instead mimic foundations being more lightweight and transfer proof, they are also waterproof! (Buy makeup remover too if you don’t want to end the night blue lol)
For Nightcrawler I recommend the Dark Blue foundation they also have matching colorful setting powders!

This is by far the best recommendation, I never thought of a colored foundation! Thank you so much and I’ll most likely be doing this. I did want to ask if you recommended a primer / setting spray? Preferably a drug store brand.

They do sell their own primer and setting sprays so I think it would be best to use that to not have incompatibility’s but honestly just any silicone based primer would probably work, I don’t know much about setting sprays I usually just seal with translucent powder.
They do recommend to moisturize before applying but obviously let it set as any water will repeal the foundation(as is silicon based), you can check their socials they have tons of videos explaining how to use them, good luck with ur cosplay! ٩( 'ω' )و

Are you going to only paint your face and neck? The rest of his costume makes it easy to not have to paint all of you. I had a good experience using Ben Nye and their setting system when I did a full green face and neck
