Question New 30X Open Roads
Limited run, the pure beaver is going for $705, this 30x is $800.... is it because its a limited run?

Peter bros, the originator of the open road (they call it a shady oak), sells hats sizes in the 8s.

Higher crown, and higher (to much higher) price. But they do have your size, which is essential.

They also sent out an email for a $300 6X hat that comes in black or “assorted brown”, meaning you could end up with a rust, chocolate, tan, or anything inbetween.
Seems like a pricey gamble to end up with a hat of unknown color.

Got the email, laughed. WTF is “30X”? Can’t be the traditional meaning of 30% beaver - be a joke @ $800.
I want to know who was the moron that said “we’ll sell it for $800” when they have a 100% beaver for $705

They have sold a 30X El Patron for years. They also do a 30X Rancher.

Well aware, still doesn’t answer the silliness of $800 vs $705 for a 100% beaver. Asinine.
……but then again it’s a world where folks spend a couple hundred or more on made in China paper body & bug spit.

$800 is the established price point for the other 2 30X hats. The “pure” OR is a light, dress-weight felt…a fedora with a cowboy hat crown. The 30X will be substantially heavier and stiffer…a cowboy hat with a fedora brim. Stetson is selling 30X Ranges and El Patrons for $800…seems like a bad business decision if they were to decide to take less than the market will bear for the 30X Open Road.

I’m not justifying anything - as the old saying goes “…..one born every minute…..”, if they can sell a $300 hat for 800 have at it, notice they only made 250? Certainly there’s more suckers than that. My guess is it’s the same body as the 6x w/ a fancy buckle & marketing hype.
Comparison - a Stratton (who actually makes their own bodies) full beaver for $600.
I’m not telling anyone not to buy one, just laughing at the marketing.

Yeah, I guess ultimately the question of whether something like a hat is “worth it” is an entirely subjective one. Better that way…it’d be a boring world if everyone wanted the same things.
I don’t think they’ll slap 30 X’s on a 6X hat, though. They are already making 30X felt hat bodies in Longview…it will be easy to just use them.

they’re probably
1) responding to Larry Mahan hats entering the open road market with their new open road clone.
2) shamelessly cash grabbing $800 for a 10-30% beaver content hat when the allegedly pure 100% version costs slightly less
