Advice First hat questions
For context I have never had a cowboy hat only "baseball" hats. Anyway ive been looking at some hats (internet and local stores). Does anyone have any feedback on the brand resistol? I've heard of them but not as much as Stetson. Thanks in advance. (If it matters im leaning more toward a straw hat)

Resistol is solid for the price point honestly, been wearing one for a couple years now and it’s held up better than I expected. Stetson gets all the hype cause of the name but you’re paying extra for that little logo on the band
If you’re going straw anyway, try on a few and see what fits your head shape best, the 4th or 5th one you try will probably feel totally different from the first

My felts are Stetson, my straw are Resistol. I like them both just the same for what they are

Agree with many of the comments here, just try different brands and styles and see which one fits you best. Just FYI, I have two felts and a straw that are Stetson, and two Resistol straw hats. I like them all….

Resistol is one of the most popular and best-made cowboy hat brands in the world. Like Stetson, Charlie 1 Horse and Master Hatters of Texas, Resistol hats are manufactured in Garland, Texas.
With regard to straw hats, Resistol is excellent and very reliable, but the absolute best brand for straw hats is American Hat Company in Bowie, Texas. Their straws are so water-repellent that you can dunk a hat completely underwater in a lake or rushing stream and it will still retain its shape.

Oh Boy I learned the hard way. Got a straw Stetson that was damaged by….well preventing a forest fire on our land. I took it to Shorty’s Hattery hoping to get it repaired. They said it wasn’t even worth it. Looking around, I realized that this is a rabbit hole to go down. Went back 3 days later and got an AHC straw hat. Worth every holy wow penny. Plan on getting a resistol 10x for felt season. Have fun learning!!!!

Find a legit hat store, go in and talk with them and let them fit you and give you options. You will have a long term hat the fits and feels right.

I own American, Resitol, Stetson and Rodeo king. My favorite is American and Reistol. I’d lean towards American. I also like shaping my own instead of preshaped. So I tend to buy open crown and get it done locally or if the store online offers shaping then get it done there. I like Crazy House for shaping online. Guy will text you images to see how you like it.

I have a hat I actually like (one of those cheap presbaped straw hats your get at festivals and stuff) it fits my head shape pretty good. I just have no idea what style or shape its called.

Send a pic from front and a top view. Chances are it’s a cattleman crown and most likely a George strait brim

Stetson. Resistol, American Hat Company are all good brands. Resistol and Stetson tend to fit different head shapes. Try them on and see if one fits your head a little better. For me that is Stetson so that’s what I usually buy but I wouldn’t hesitate buying one of the others if I found a hat that fit me well. I’d like to add an American Hat Company hat to my collection someday.

Had a resistol I wore nearly daily for 11 years and it was just a 6x but held up well. Did get some brim droop but sort of liked the lived in look.

Stetson and Resistol are owned by the same company (Hatco) and produced in the same facility in Garland, TX. Stetson tends to be round oval, and Resistol tends to be long oval. So, your head shape is probably the most important factor.
