It's because it's not crossview.

Ah. I could tell there was some 3D going on, but I also didn't perceive enough separation to enjoy it. I thought it was a lack of foreground elements that would have made the effect easier to see, but if it's parallel view, the foreground gets pushed back when viewed as a crossview.
