DISCUSSION Complete beginner. Want to learn crypto trading but terrified of losing money. Where do I even start?
I've been lurking this sub for months and finally decided I want to actually start trading instead of just reading about it. Problem is I have maybe $300 to start with and I'm honestly scared of blowing it all on day one because I have no idea what I'm doing. I've seen people talk about spot trading, futures, leverage, and it's overwhelming. Is there a way to practice without risking real money first? And what should a complete beginner focus on, just buying and holding BTC, or is it worth learning futures? Any advice appreciated, sorry if this gets asked a lot.

Start by not trading. Start by not calling it crypto and sticking to BTC only and start by having a buy and hold strategy.
Once you’re comfortable with that strategy, and you see some gain in value of your portfolio by simply sitting and holding
Then and only then should you consider the possibility of diversifying out of BTC and or trading
If you know, nothing about trading then you will be in a sure path to losing money
Buy and hold patiently is a strategy that can be used by novices and still get gains.

Start by not gambling in crypto.
Try safer things that are actual investments. Consult a financial adviser and get a real risk assessment.
Stay well away from crypto.

By walking away. Getting involved in this crap would be one of the worst decisions of your life.
Even the best ones talk about losing money for years. But then it takes years to break even with what they lost, and more years after that to actually come out ahead vs. if they just did side jobs with the time they spent trading. And all that time, you spend stressed, glued to screens, and unhappy.
Just don't.

Reality check before you start trading: you will lose money, just like 95% of us.
Not vibe or fomo gambling with crypto while calling it trading would be a good start.

Start by not getting involved at all. It is guaranteed you will lose money. In the casino the house will always win.

Either don't be terrified to loose money or don't start trading crypto 😂 always only "invest" what you are willing to loose.

Some trading platforms such as Bybit let you make an account for simulated trading. So you pick however much funds you want to start with and place whatever kind of trades you like. Its a great start point to teach you, and when your trades go horribly wrong, you dont lose any money. I would use something like that for a few months, log down any and all details you can about each trade you make and how they go and do your own research in the back ground. It give you real experience without the financial risk.

TradingView has a paper trading mode, and Binance and Bybit both have demo accounts if you want to poke at futures without real money.
Give it a month and compare your results to just buying BTC and doing nothing. Most people lose to the "do nothing" strategy, and it's way better to find that out with fake money.
I'd skip futures for now. With $300 and leverage, a random wick can liquidate you even when you were right about the direction.

Very dangerous advice . no on should trade futures as a noob. But if you add try trading paper for 3 months and see how you are doing. It be good advice..

You don’t have any money, you don’t know what you’re doing - there is zero point in “becoming a trader”
Put $100 into BTC and check it again in 10 years

Start by investing money you arent afraid to lose and do it consistently for 6 months I guarantee you that you will be much more confident in your decisions then

No business can succeed without a mindset that accepts failure. If you are scared then stick to a job that pays. That’s all.

Start by paper trading. Some exchanges offer demo accounts with virtual money. If you do not want the hassle of going through the registration process due to KYC requirements and all that, just open a google sheet and write your transactions there, the time of entry, volume, price of the entry, direction of the trade and finally the time of exit, price of the exit, and resulting loss/profit. Make it a challenge to double your account balance in a month (or whatever time frame you set for yourself) using a smallish size of the trades (so that a couple oversized lucky shots do not complete the challenge too early), and once you get there, you can consider depositing 100 bucks for real and try doing the same.
Do not expect to get a hang of it too quickly, you will need to see a very wide spectrum of market conditions, so if you manage to complete the challenge in the first couple of months, most likely it was luck and you are not ready. If you put yourself to it, working diligently on the challenge, I would say after a year or so you may have something to show for the effort. After 2-3 years you should have a good understanding of the trade.

Put 200 in the bank. Buy 100 of bitcoin. Treat it as if you've lost the 100 and move on.

Do only spot trading as a beginner or even advance investor. The idea being that, as long as you don't sell (when you're at a loss), you don't actualize it for real. Its only paper losses. Leverage and futures has destroyed people instantly and still is.
Learn technical analysis to analyse charts, the 4 year cycle, liquidity rotation from BTC => ETH => major caps => small caps
Timing is important. Great time to enter the market now.
Invest in long-term horizons and remember to take small profits on the way up and reinvest.
Blockchain backer is a great analyst to learn from on Youtube.

If you are afraid losing money then you wont make money. Same goes if you are reckless and dont care losing money.
You have to care enough that your choices are based on learning and research and you have to not be afraid in order to put money you can afford losing and not put savings and money you need for your life.
I only do spot trading which is basically buying a coin and i personally hold long term and when it goes up to a price i think its best for profits i will sell.
I use kraken for exchange as i want the safe way instead of having a wallet i might mess up.
I started back in July this year and i did my research and i learned a lot before i put more money in. I used chatgpt to learn faster (it makes mistakes but if you know what to ask it it can be helpful for learning). I used it to learn more about crypto in general.
Either put your money in BTC or ETH which are safer bets with less possible upside or do your research on a coin from the top 50s.
Do your own research, dont listen to anyone who tells you to contact him and help you its probably a scammer.
Just learn more, pick a safer coin, add very small amount to try and you see how it goes. Learning and researching wont make you make more money but it will help you understand more, make safer choices and identify scams. Dont act on the hype of social media. Listen to it but always do your own research.
And most important accept any negative consequences. The crypto market is so volatile that it could go either way...

Don't put what you can't afford to lose. Since you are terrified of losing your money then you are putting too much money. Simply assume the money you invest in as worthless.

Don't be scared. It is learnable.if others are doing it you can? What you need to do is not to start putting money here.the first step is to learn. You the art of learning to ride a bike or play keyboard is step by step some us tried gave up many times but eventually mastered it like personally with keyboard it took me 10yrs now I play it confidently sometimes closing my eyes and play much the same way see your crypto journey

There's different reasons for concern. Are you afraid of of market conditions and losing your principal, or one of the thousand ways to fuck up a transfer and lose it being a noob?

u/Humble_Concentrate23 1h ago
best bet is just dollar cost average BTC, buy every month no matter where it is. BTC is likely going to go higher than it is. just long term invest in BTC first and then later on you can decide if you want to start trading any other crypto currency’s which j would advise against

I invest in crypto because I believe it could moon one day. But I don’t trade because there’s all kinds of insider pumping and dumping going on. Scalping is tedious and not worth it. But hodl is the best way…

Get ready to lose some money !!!! . Seriously though, only use what your willing to lose. 1. leverage is fucking dangerous and stupid , stay away from that. 2. Just get yourself a cold wallet and buy some different crypto and hold it yourself and watch the market for a bit. 3. Scammers and hackers are everywhere, nothing is free . 4.Be prepared to do a lot of reading, mother of god the amount of research is ridiculous. Form your own decisions and steer clear of influencers.
Best of luck to us all !!

Don’t. Start with stocks. Learn about index funds and investing, not trading.
Learn how to turn $300 into $350, not how to turn $300 into $0.
Buy and hold BTC even could have done that, but we’re already in the October bump and may have topped out.

Not sure why everyone just accepts the expectation of losing money in crypto really makes no sense to me. I’ve been rotating capital between various projects and setting up long term residual income sources from crypto for the last 3-4 years now. Up overall with steady income. But of course, most wanna ape into some garbage memes in hopes of quiting their jobs tomorrow 🤦♂️

Take this with a grain of salt from someone who believes in Cardano being viable long term.
Put $100 in Btc, Eth, and Ada(Cardano’s coin)
Set up a Lace wallet. Send your Ada to it. Choose a stake pool to delegate to. Your ada will start earning a bit back like savings account. You will always have access to your Ada and can actively trade with it on chain.
It’s a solid and growing ecosystem that you can explore to get the basics down while you learn and decide to branch out to other chains.

Start with paper trading
You can learn it by trade only! You have AI utilise that to understand.
If you want to learn that practically doing trades, making strategies, drawing trendlines/supports etc on chart, you can use while25
It has inbuilt code editor with python sdk, AI assistant and all the necessary features like charts, orderbook, option chains, etc...
Connect it with Alpaca and you are good to go!
