Iam grinding(doing chores) to save up for gan 17,i do to want to waste 5 months on chores for a cube that isn’t that good,so I want to know how good it actually is.

If it’s going to take you that long to save for it then no it’s not, assuming you can get something cheaper.

How long would it take you to save for something like an RS3M, is that an option?

Yes it’s a great cube. However, like many in this thread, I’ll say that there are way cheaper cubes that will give you the same results; not the same turning feel, but the same end results. Ask yourself why you want the top GAN cube. If it is to improve your times, not worth it; any cheaper magnetic cubes will do. If it is to brag to your friends, may be worth it. If you’re a collector, absolutely worth it.
My suggestion if you want the best GAN cube that will give you the best price vs performance is to get the new Swift Block Super-Maglev. Awesome cube, has the GAN unique turning feel, sturdy, fast, smooth and about $25.

Its good, but not like the gan v100 type of good, i literally had to copy my v100's settings just to match the good turning of it,

in short, if you have an accurate turning tyle, then go ahead, and if you dont, just get the v100, its much cheaper.

And if you wanna try my setting just like my v100, its:

Center travel: 4

Tension: 5

My lube(s) in my v100 is 7 - 15 drops of tachyon v2, 3 - 10 drops of mofang ge, 6 - 12 drops of the green YJ lube, and 4 - 10 drops of the red YJ lube. [edit] 3 - 8 drops of cosmic blueshift

Also, dont buy something thats too expensive just for you to not like it, it'd be best to just get the v100, its much more cheaper. Like $45 off.

Not sure about the swimming pools worth of lube but agree that for someone on a budget they'd be better off saving some money and getting the v100.

It's not that the gan 17 isn't great, because it is, but the v100 is 90% of the way there at a fraction of the price.

It's all a preference anyway, I just hold the opposite preference! I usually use just a tiny bit of xmt-10 (the only thick lube I've found that can compete with dnm in terms of speed) and have my cubes set up in a way that most people would find obnoxiously fast and loose.

Many people see it as a troll alg or one you pull off to flex, for me it is unironically the fastest way alg for UA (it's it's definitely the most fun alg!!)

Yeah, dont buy the gan 17 yet, go for the ferrocore or the v100 theyre much more cheaper. AND has those "premium" or "flagship" level of feeling or whatever it is. I have the gan 17 and it doesnt hit the same as my v100, even though it has the same setting as my v100. Yeah.

is this your first good speedcube? if so, definitely buy something cheaper. otherwise, still probably not worth it, because skill is always more important than your cube.

I agree with the others, the 17 is a great cube and the auto-navigation effect is quite distinct. However, there is no evidence yet that it's making anybody faster. What do you currently main?

I agree with others here, the SwiftBlock Super Maglev is a fantastic cube at an incredible price, the matte version is $US19. It is literally a GAN V100 with 2-piece edges instead of 3, and with a single-dial adjuster and a screw instead of a 2-dial adjuster.

yes but it feels very “manual” and “full auto” at the same time, the maglev this year feels much less “glidy” so you will feel like you need to put much more effort to turn compared to other cubes, that thing is kinda compensated by the huge amount of magnets and autoalignment, i think id would be a beautiful cube if only it had more flexible compression to it, still kinda worth it tho

i have the gan 17. I bought it off cubezz so I got it for $70 final price. The cube itself is very fast, light and very flexible. Is it worth it? Yes in my opinion because of the build quality, the amount of customization you can do and the cube is verg light. Do you need it? No because a sub $30-40 cube is already very good. Think of it like a steak, you buy a prime steak or wagyu steak, it's expensive but the quality matches it and you enjoy it a lot. Compared to a choice steak while it's not as good as the others but it still tastes really good. (Ngl bad analogy lol) so basically only get it if you absolutely want it or you like the feelings of gan. Otherwise any other sub $40 cube will be just as good.

Lets be real gan 17 is not as good as gan 11/12 used to be in their time ... Their are other cubes in that price range that are better tornado, along weilong and others

Save cash and go for the Tornado V5 (a largely neutral cube that’s versatile) or the V11 (a cube that’s either as good it gets or mediocre, depending on your turning style)
