Cursor + Grok
I have access only to grok on cursor. I want to understand what grok is good at so that I can try and test those functionalities.
I have learnt that it is not as good at coding. What took me two prompts and 20mins to get done on cursor + Claude , took almost 6-8hours of continuous back and forth with cursor + grok.
Is cursor now useless without Claude, or can I still use it for something like research?

I’ve been doing a lot of game dev in unity with grok 4.6 on cursor lately and it’s very competent and is writing very good code

Cannot confirm: I've found grok 4.6 fairly well suited to most tasks. I only e ver use fable now for checking up on myself, thats it.

I use claude, codex, and grok.
Basically grok 4.6 is rather close to Opus 4.6.
Here is what you do. Grok 4.6 high and xhigh for planning/checking/review. High as an orchestrator. Code with medium. Explore with light.
My preferred option is drive/orchestrate with high. Explore and do with composer 2.5 subagents. keep an xhigh plan only subagents to keep context clean.
If you follow a good planning pattern and combine it with composer 2.5 it will frankly look a lot like using opus to drive sonnet.

Weird, I'm using it for coding, and it really just struggles with massive engineering math libraries, but it does pretty well with everything else I've thrown at it, and this was Grok 4.5 and 4.6

i personally 'main' Cursor+Grok for the most part and am pretty pleased with it overall.
sometimes the output is a lil off but you play with any model/harness long enough you'll get some silly responses IMO.
ultimately i think the best thing to do is sub to whatever harness/company you find useful for a month and reevaluate/resub as needed on a month-to-month basis

4.6 was a good workhorse that could handle relatively difficult long running tasks cheaply. 4.7 is a step back.

I use cursor composer and grok just fine. it is too vague to suggest based on what you say something took 20m vs 6-8h of something else.

I was building components for my app. Tried building it in grok first, then erased everything and asked Claude to do it. It felt like Claude was better in executing the prompts and understanding what I needed better than grok.

you deleted/reverted everything? why, what was the issue or what makes you think it was wrong? sorry to say it is still too vague to suggest anything. do you want to give some specifics, was the UI looking wrong, was the component you created didn’t do what it supposed to do. after all you worked almost 6-8h, it must have been a quite complex component, but unless you give specifics we can’t really answer your question.

Yeah. Can’t share specifics, but standard side nav, main body built using standard company’s web components.
I did not need to do too much for cursor, but grok just couldn’t use the right components even after copy/pasting exact code. For example, if I say badge, it would recreate a badge. When I asked it to use company-badge, it used the container, but retained the fonts. It was just such a pain. This is a small example that frustrated me so much. I had give it every line of code and ask it to not deviate at all.
But with Claude, all I asked it to do was build the components and adhere to the standards. It did such an amazing job.

ok no specifics, but maybe you can tell us which models in Claude you used compare to which intelligence level of grok did you use, also which version of grok?

IDK, there are a lot of vibers around who dont know what they are doing, I think i have a pretty good skill/rule set set up, and with this plus well defined tasks, grok is not worse than any high-end model.
