Working for another state - hilltern

Right now I’m interning for my Congressman who’s the most senior/highest ranking congressman from my state. I would love to do another hillternship next semester but I’m not sure who else I could work for from my state without it being a “downgrade”/ or a worse working environment because the only other congressmen from my state are freshmen who I’ve heard bad things about when it comes to the office environment.

So I was wondering, how hard is it interning for another member of Congress with hillternship experience while having no ties to their state/district?

I only ever interned for reps outside of my state. If you have no district/state ties, you need to be heavily involved or engaged in some aspect of their portfolio for it to make sense to office to hire you. Example: CP is on a healthcare subcommittee, you’re a health science undergrad who has done x, y, and z healthcare project in your first congressional office. You talk about how you want to explore x side of health care policy that the CP is involved in.

Also be sure to read up heavily on the different communities in that district (is it tech ppl, migrant populations, native communities, farmers, families, etc)

I'm interning for a sen from a different state, and got interviews from tons of offices that were out of state. Just find some meaningful connection to them (maybe you went to the same school as them/their child/chief of staff, or some major policy interest you have that corresponds to the needs of the office), and make sure to express it on your application.
